You look to see acquisitions and you expect the chargers NOT to improve, and you expect the patriots to improve? How about Miami?
Where did I say I don;t expect them to improve?
Most teams at least try to improve every year...but the best-laid plans of mice and men. Scheduling (not just with who you're playing, but home or away and WHEN you play them), injuries, lack of chemistry with new guys, off-years by players they're counting on - it all matters.
I expected a better Patriots team because of their middle-class FA acquisitions last year, and I got one..but I didn't expect the adds would leapfrog them to the top of the heap. On paper, the Chargers have made a couple of very nice moves talent-wise, but who knows where that leaves them, as with everyone else.
Miami is more talented on O than they were last year, but changing HCs usually takes some time. If they figure it out with Hill, Waddle, and the supporting cast, and Tua can play it right, their offense could be a real handful, sure. I think they're a dangerous team.
I also think last year's Pats were a better team than Miami, despite the head-to-heads. The Pats dominated the first game and had no business losing it - rookie QB, 1st game blues. (Side note: the Dolphins' leading WR in that game was Devante Parker with 81 yards.)
The second game was after the wheels came off - the Patriots were a better team than they showed after the bye. If that;s really who they are, then sure, it's going to be a long season.
And I think Flores was a BIG reason that Phins had the Pats number.
So, we'll see. I'm not, and never have been, sold, on Miami's current defense, particularly without Flores there. I put the teams, on paper, as pretty even right now.
