Over the years there have been plenty of misguided "Kraft is cheap" and "Pats are cheap" comments, typically during contract negotiations with a well known player or anytime a free agent leaves for another team. The vocal minority makes similar comments whenever some newspaper ranks teams by the average total cost of attending a game (ticket, parking, drink and food) or average ticket price. Certain local writers like Shaughnessy and Borges can't go all that long without writing a column with this angle.
The negativity was loudest after some Super Bowl favorites departed (McGinest, Vinatieri, Branch, Patten) and still occasionally returns (Wilfork contract negotiations, Brady 'disconnect' speculation, Mankins negotiations, Samuel signing with Philadelphia) but it is not as pronounced as it once was. As soon as some familiar name departs for another team it it will surely return, unfortunately.
