Next Stop, the Underwear Olympics

Big fan of Christian Jones; he has looked pretty good in the drills. I think the pats need another athletic LB in the Jaime Collins mold. I haven't seen any of their tape, but Prince Shembo (ND) and Pierre-Louis (BC) really impressed me in the combine drills.

Aaron Donald (or Dominique Easley if Donald is long gone) and Christian Jones, please. Though I could live with Ryan Shazier and Dominique Easley. And a rotational DE in FA would be nice, too. But however you slice it, more disruptiveness up the middle, better depth on the edge, and another athletic LB who can play in space or come off the edge.

Lol anyone just see them put the camera on BB in the stands watching the LB coverage drills? It didn't appear that he was pleased with what he saw from his facial expressions.

Official LB times are out, generally a fair amount slower. Christian Jones (4.63 and 4.60 unofficial) comes in at 4.74, for example. Seems slow to me. Anthony Barr and Khalil Mack both at 4.66.

C Ya Aaron Donald.

7.11 3 cone.

7.48 3 cone for Marcus Smith. That's bad.

Very few really good 3 cones from pass rushers. Kony Ealy was the best at 6.83 and Jackson Jeffcoat was 6.97. A very unexciting crop of pass rushers this year.

Kony Ealy with a 6.83 3-cone (tied with Melvin Ingram from 2012).

7.11 3 cone.

Donald also with a 4.39 short shuttle.

Again, for comparison:

- Nick Fairley: 7.14, 4.56
- Geno Atkins: 7.33, 4.33
- Gerald McCoy: 7.32, 4.48
- Fletcher Cox: 7.07, 4.53

And, just to rub it in:

- Jamie Collins: 7.10, 4.32

Ouch.

Aside from Geno Atkins who shouldn't have (on hindsight), none of those made it past pick 15.

Just for the sake of hanging on to a ray of hope, none of them was 285#.

And, in case you missed my edit to my last post, Jamie Collins' short shuttle and 3-cone were almost identical to Donald's: 4.32 and 7.10 vs. 4.39 and 7.11. Ouch.

From Tony Pauline:

- I’m told the Arizona Cardinals will make a big run at Branden Albert if he hits free agency as expected. If they don’t come away with Albert sources say the Cardinals will look offensive tackle in round one.
- If the Seattle Seahawks had their choice of player with the last pick of round one it would likely be Odell Beckham Jr. Chances are Beckham won’t be available to the Seahawks at the end of the first frame. I’m told look for the Seahawks to go offensive line heavy in the draft.
- Word at the combine has the Dallas Cowboys going defensive front seven early and often in the draft. Word is Aaron Donald is a possibility for the team in round one. :bricks:
- I’m told another team that looking for defensive line help during the early part of the draft are the San Diego Chargers. The only exception will be if a top rated secondary prospect is available to them.
- How impressive was Jerick McKinnon’s workout yesterday? Its likely to improve his draft stock anywhere from two-to-three rounds. This morning sources told me they feel McKinnon has cemented himself as a fourth round pick and could break into the third frame. A few teams now rate McKinnon as the fifth running back on their boards.

Combine News & Notes: Monday

Has just become a strong Pats contender at 29 with that length and 3 cone (if he lasts that long).

Wonder if this is the year we really make a Blockbuster trade - Rams at 13 is the team im looking at. Missing ~500 Trade value points to jump a head of Bears, Cowboys etc. I could see #29 + Next years 1r pick and this years 3 round pick. I know BB have never done it, but he might really consider it.

I don't know if BB would trade a 2015 1st under any circumstances. But, how high would you consider trading for Aaron Donald:

- 29 + 93 gets us into the high 20's if Donald slips past Dallas at 17.
- 29 + 62 gets us into the range of Dallas at #17. They traded back last year.
- 29 + 62 + a 2015 pick gets us into the range of St. Louis at 13.
- Dominique Easley might be available at 62, and certainly with a trade back from 29.

I think Donald is the best defensive player in the draft, so I'd probably trade up to 17. Maybe farther.

Now you know how I feel when everyone talks up Calvin Pryor.

Sorry if I've done that to you.

To give you an idea of how strongly I feel ... I'd rather take a TE or WR.

Given the depth that this draft is supposed to have, I don't see any way, short of a Richard Seymour type player sliding into the teens, that BB trades up at the high end of the draft.

Just my $.02

I think Ebron and not Donald would be the gamechanger in a trade up scenario.
