Trade Samuel to Tenn. for their first.

1a. Revis CB
1b. trade for 2nd and 3rd
1c. Griffin S
2. Harris ILB
3. Bradley OLB/ILB
3b. Michael Bush RB Louisville
4. AJ Davis CB
5s. Walter Thomas DL
6a. Desmond bishop LB
6b. Ryan Smith CB Florida

I think that's too many DBs myself, but overall a pretty good draft.

I'll take it! Just what we need, a lot of great players to fill a lot of needs.

I'll cross my fingers and hope the Samuel trade goes thru because BB has done and will continue to do magic with the secondary. Just look at the past three years, not bad results.

Given a willing counterparty ...
and in another thread i nominate Miami as said counterpart
... thru 3a
this sounds marvelous.

Except ...
a 1st, all by itself, is NOT SUFFICIENT COMPENSATION
for a franchised player
worth 10 mil per year, on a long-term contract!

We'd be very lucky in that draft. Though I don't expect harris or bush to fall that far.

looks like when i made out my christmas list when i was 8

I like it. I like it a lot. I hadn't thought of a trade with the Titans. It does seem to make sense.

I don't see the Titans, who have many needs as a rebuilding team, wanting to give up their first. I also don't see BB wanting to give up Samuel for one first alone, when the Franchise tag value is two firsts. Samuel is a multiple pick trade. If Revis were there at 19, I'd expect Fisher to take him before trading multiple picks for Asante, ol' Fisher knows a thing or two about developing DBs hisownself.

Maybe you just add Tenn's 2nd round pick in next year's draft. I think a mid round first this year and a 2nd next year would be adequate compensation for Samuel. I don't think he's worth 2 firsts. Then the draft would go as commented on. AND if that was the case, I think we would have done quite nicely with that mock. We might see a slight down side this year, but we get younger at LB with quality people and have lots of depth and upside at CB

What about picks 6c, 6c and 7? Those picks are all untradeable.

The value may match, the question of a rebuilding team that under the old GM did okay in the draft (if not in the cap) giving up #19 if Revis were there seems far fetched. Fisher would feel pretty comfortable taking either Revis or Ross (both ballhawks and return men) and playing them in place of similar talent who he also started as a rookie. Fisher also needs defensive end, with Jarvis Moss and Anthony Spencer both floating in that late first/high second area, not to mention Lamarr Woodley and Tim Crowder in round two, those picks are well positioned to get him a starting CB and DE. The trade may match on paper, but the draft tactics must also match and I don't see them favoring a trade for Asante.

i would roll some picks into next year. there just aren't enough roster spots and half of those guys will likely get cut

And 7 of the Pats 10 are second day picks, losing half should be no great cost, but bringing in the best players left in the draft to create the hottest competition isn't a bad strategy. I also would like to look ahead to next year, but the flip side of bringing in the best competition is the new trading dynamic in the NFL. Any team who can get a 6th for Gorin is one who could get provisional second day picks for some castoffs who someone else wanted first dibs on. Hill, S.Thomas, Britt, Yates, Mruczkowski, who knows what can happen if Pit was offering a provisional pick for Cobb? If I had to prioritize it without regard to the options at each pick, I'd take the competition first, then look to move picks forward.

that is a good point, but I think they are getting to the point of it getting ridiculous and wasting some picks that could benefit next year.

For example.... look how many wr's they have and how many will they realistically carry on the roster?

Competition is definitely good and I'd like to see some at lb, db, safety, and OL, and rb....... heck i guess every position.

I'd have to do the math on how many they have under contract now and add 10 to that...... injuries sometimes happen in camp.

any idea on how many are under contract now?

I counted 68 the other day, 4 of them Punters. There is room for over 80 players, drafting ten and bring in as many others to rookie camp for tryouts should get the best competition for camp. Not that I expect BB to draft 10, but it hurts nothing if he does.

that's alot of players, and not counting troy brown. i certainly have to think there is going to be alot of trading on draft day.

Don't be so sure about Tenn. not wanting Samuel. Mike Reiss makes a decent case against the idea today, as does a poster in this thread. What I feel they both overlooked is how close Tenn. was/is to making the playoffs. Fisher needs to keep the hype rolling in Memphis. The last thing he wants is the team go south this year and have everyone (including the players) start to wonder if Young's play last year was just a flash in the pan. The Titans haven't been an NFL factor in years; now they have a dynamic leader in Young, they feel they've built momentum with last year's finish and desperately don't want to spend next season listening to everyone say, "if only they had Pacman." A trade for a young, experienced, multi-SB star like Samuel could be veiwed as a confident decision by a FO that sees its team as ready to contend, now, and that Samuel's skill and veteran leadership would put the Titans squarely in the race for a championship.

I just talked myself into this trade - Jeff Fisher can you hear me? Your first and next year's second puts your team on the road, baby! Pull the trigger!

BB will bring in the maximum allowable roster strength for Training Camp, the choice is between making it the most competitive, or getting true camp fodder. It's great that the team has advanced beyond the Earthwind Moreland days, to continue that trend very good players will need to be excellent to win a roster spot. Worrying about who will or won't make the team before the competition is thinking negatively, bundle picks as needed, accept trades forward if they are to your advantage in the exchange, but moving them forward just because the player you might choose with it might not make the team is defeatist.

The Pats currently have 68 signed or tendered. However, 3 of them have NFLE Exemptions (Barthelmes, Baugher, Malone). So, in essence, the Pats only have 65 players. That leaves only 15 spots for picks and udfa.

So, the question remains, do you "waste" picks on guys who might not make the roster? Or, do you use those picks to create the greatest possible competition? UDFAs and street FAs have their place, but if you have the wherewithal to draft likely lads, why not? Moving picks forward may be the best tactical use of the pick on draft day, but doing it just because you "think" a drafted player may never make the roster is over-valuing the draft pick and under-valuing the man.
