Site News New: Sortable Snap Counts, Personnel Groupings, etc. (Updated 9/18: Player Substitutions Added)

LOL, no, that's a weird one. Those get entered in under their abbreviations, which pulls the info from the roster and it also ties them into the stats database. I've had a few instances where I've forgotten to change it to Ma.Bryant and it's crossed Marcus Bryant up with Myles Bryant (who is in there under M.Bryant), which is @captain stone 's favorite player.

I fixed it. Also run into the same thing with Marcus Jones (causes Mac to pop up), and if I forget Carlton Davis, it pulls Carl Davis, etc. An added wrinkle that comes with doing this to keep me on my toes. Good times.

Technology is your friend -- until it isn't.

EDIT: Special Teams snaps weren't applied for this week. They're now active.

Also, one other thing on this. The only odd situation for anyone who looks at the third down snaps vs the third down stat totals is that the league counts all snaps on the field for players, with the exception of presnap penalties. Other penalties (pass interference, holding, etc.) that might nullify the play still count as a snap for the players. That's why even though the Patriots might finish 5/9 on third down, players are credited with having played 11 snaps because there were penalties on two plays where the play was nullified (listed as "No Play" in the Gamebook.)

I actually got a DM from someone on Twitter who said, "Your snap thing is bull****. How could they be out there for 11 snaps if the Patriots were 5/9 on third down?" and then proceeded to block the account and leave the conversation. So if anyone ever wondered, that's the reason.

The overall totals in this match the NFL's, and I have noticed everyone apparently counts them differently. Some count all the snaps and don't remove the presnap penalties, and it took me a bit to figure out what plays the NFL does/doesn't count (they don't count snaps on pre-snap penalties). I match mine to the league because most people look at their published totals, and that at least ensures there's something to compare them against if anyone ever questions it.

But no one else has the snaps sortable by quarter or down, so I can't check those against another source. The only reason I know they're accurate is because they're tied to the playsheet in the stats database on both sides of the ball (offense and defense), and the player totals all match, so that's how I know they're correct.

I don't know if anyone has ever seen this movie, but this was the quote that literally went through my head when the guy dropped that DM on me and bailed:

Week 8 is in:

Working on Week 9 now.

Ian, not to be a pain in your butt, but is there a reason the snap counts you post each week cannot be pinned?

Still working on Week 9. And I will be adding a block with some of this stuff to make it more accessible. Also, in the bottom right, you can pin posts from individual threads, if that's helpful in the meantime:

These are finally caught up and updated through Week 9 (@Mike the Brit):

UPDATE: Added the inactives for each of the last two weeks, so that reflects properly under the affected players.

Man...this never gets any easier, but this has been updated through Week 10. @Mike the Brit

Just added a new toggle to this where when you're looking at personnel groupings for the entire season, there's a link to see which game/how many plays it occurred in.

Edit - just carried it over into the offensive/defensive groupings in addition to the player groupings.
