NEW Feature: Patriots Rumor Mill

Re: CSNNE speculates Fitz.

Speculation according to the onion, Patriots to sign bigfoot. Can the Patriots afford the amount of twig and Berries that Bigfoot demands? We shall find out tomorrow

Can he rush the passer or stretch the defense?

Re: CSNNE speculates Fitz.

There are no "no trade clauses" in the NFL. The only leverage he would have to block a trade is if his trade was contingent on him restructuring his contract where he could refuse to restructure.

Larry Fitzgerald does have a no trade clause

Re: CSNNE speculates Fitz.

I don't think this trade will ever happen, but a few things:

  • The Pats can easily absorb Fitzgerald's salary. He has already been paid a third of the $120 million which would not transfer to the Pats. His cap hit this year if traded to the Pats would be about $5.25 million.
  • The Pats would likely have to give up at least two high picks (maybe more) with one being a first rounder to get a trade. The Cards would only do this if trading Fitzgerald would help them rebuild in a big way. I think the Pats would have to give up a Carson Palmer type of compensation.
  • The Cards would get a significant cap hit this year if they trade him which could make a trade for Fitzgerald prohibited if not impossible to happen.

A 15 million cap hit for the Cards if traded apparently...

So, trading Fitzgerald would result in $15 million of dead money against the cap.

Trading Larry Fitzgerald makes no sense for Arizona Cardinals | Insiders

Re: CSNNE speculates Fitz.

I can't imagine the amount of dead cap that would count against the Cardinals for them to trade him.

Re: CSNNE speculates Fitz.

Larry Fitzgerald does have a no trade clause

Even if he does, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't need to be persuaded to leave Arizona to join the Patriots.

Re: CSNNE speculates Fitz.

Larry Fitzgerald does have a no trade clause

Maybe I am wrong. He is the only guy in football who does.

Granted, he will likely not exercise it if he could go to a team with an elite QB like Brady. Still not enough to make this trade remotely realistic.

Re: CSNNE speculates Fitz.

I'd love... no I mean I'd LOVE to see Fitz play for our Pats. But who knows if he'd be willing to be traded here... we'll see.

Redskins are planning on signing Talib...

He is good, but, not that great.

Re: Redskins are planning on signing Talib...

They uhh...have no money.

Re: Redskins are planning on signing Talib...

ok can we have 1 thread with the rumors...and we have one..lets start posting there please

Re: Redskins are planning on signing Talib...

They had to cut DeAngelo Hall just to get under the cap...either they are dreaming or the media is just making stuff up.

Re: Redskins are planning on signing Talib...

Where do the redskins keep coming up with money to overpay guys? Hopefully this one is false and they don't clear up space.

Re: Redskins are planning on signing Talib...

Probably the good ole 1 million dollar salary in year 1 and spread the bonus through 5 years. Doubt they have enough even then.

Even if the Redskins did that I don't believe they'd even have enough cap room to sign their draft picks.

Re: Redskins are planning on signing Talib...

Where are they getting the cap space to do this?

Re: Redskins are planning on signing Talib...

He is good, but, not that great.

And yet, I can't recall a single instance in which a Patriots' defense felt the loss of a player more than when he got injured in the AFCCG. He was a key cog to their defensive improvement down the stretch, without him the pass defense looked 2011 levels bad.

Re: Redskins are planning on signing Talib...

Let them outbid us, who cares. Lewis, Asomugha, and Grimes are better choices.

Re: CSNNE speculates Fitz.

I don't think it is a matter of 'if' but 'when' Fitzgerald gets here. I don't think it will happen this year, but there are a few players in this league Belichick genuinely seems to love and Fitz is one of those players.

It might be in 4 years, but I think he'll be here eventually. I'd love it if they went for him.
