“The ball comes out more smoothly. I think the place that you’re going to see his brain pour out his ears will be in mini camp, in training camp, especially mini camp and training camp. Just not seeing what was about to happen before it happens. That’s something that didn’t happen with Mac Jones. He just saw it.”
Is it good or bad that Mac Jones’s brain didn’t pour out his ears, and he just saw things?

Sounds like Mac sucked, kind of, but Maye gonna suck more. So be more patient with Maye cause he’s gonna suck for a decent amount of time and throw a lot of interceptions. And it’s also possible his brains might fall out of his ears while throwing interceptions cause he doesn’t know how to read defenses. But the cool part is the Pats only spent the #3 over all pick instead of a 2 or a 1… but be patient… and pray his ears don’t leak.. or he stops throwing interceptions. Whichever comes first.. or doesn’t… possibly Mac had stronger ears and didn’t leak.

Translation? *sigh* gonna be a long season for the offense.

take aways -

Maye is still working on his "mechanics". Going to be awhile before thats squared away

Maye is not going to be ready to start, despite all the "improvements" people saw in OTAS.

Mac was more polished than Drake Maye. He at least knew how to read what was going on on the field. Drake Maye, not so much.

I think AVP will coach this kid up faster than we think.
Prediction by the end of preseason we will all be buzzing about his superstar ability.

The Curran: “You can see there’s less deliberateness. I didn’t see hitches. I saw a mechanicalness to him in the first couple of practices, and that’s something Alex Van Pelt said, ‘Yeah, it’s going to be mechanical until it’s muscle memory.’ I wouldn’t say that’s gone away because it seems like it’s a very involved, depending upon run/pass, where your feet are going to go, how the stride length is, how many you take, direction, all that. But it’s improved. So kudos to him for that.”"

My take: You can see, I didn't see, I saw, I wouldn't say, very involved depending upon all that but kudos.

I'm persuaded.

Mike Lombardi often makes fun of GMs and coaches using this line--"He's light years ahead of where he was last year."

I read that as that Drake knows how to read defenses better than Mac Jones did. That and the ball comes out better than it did from Jones.

Mac was polished when he came out of college. He was able to see things like a pro QB. For whatever Mac's deficiencies were, he actually was able to read the play pretty well and the coverage prior to the snap and knew where to go to (at least in his initial read). Mac was an efficient, fairly mistake free QB in his rookie season. From the sounds of it, Maye has to work on it.

It isn't a good or bad thing at this point. The Pats drafted Maye know he was raw and he would be a work in progress. He is going to make stupid throws into bad coverage until he learns how to read defense a little better. The Patriots knew this was something he was going to have to work on when they drafted him. He seems to be ahead of schedule with fixing some of his mechanics problem. Hopefully, he will do the same with the mental aspect of the game.

Honestly, I don't know what really to make of it. What I do know is maye daye.. has gotten better each day as AVP tells it... hard for me to really even gadge things when the real thing doesn't start until next month. It's going to be a grind for the offense in general to really do anything against this defense.. #trainingcamp 2024...

"Less deliberateness" says it all... hes still thinking about his mechanics when hes throwing, as he should... That's followed up by the comment on muscle memory... which says to me he's still working on it...

like him or not, and I don't, Mac had good / better poise from the get go... at least in practice.

when the bit about having to ask the defense to go half speed so the O can complete their sets dropped, that should have told you all you need to know.

I don't care about any comparisons, nor do I expect the kid to be ready 6/11. He's 21. He's got time.

It's all about maye.. all about maye.. to me he's the key to success going forward. Some posters can nit pick the D.. however I say people need to put some respect on the D these guys are for real and our own offense isn't the only unit that is going to struggle. But I see your point Pape my man!

Agree completely. This is an investment for the long term, and Wolf appears to be taking the long term approach, so I’m fine with him sitting and them losing until they have the OL fixed, and he’s ready. They will likely have high picks again next year, and they are going to have almost 100 million in cap space, so by the time next year their OL should be in very good shape,, and hopefully they will add more weapons.

IMO, the probability that Maye is ready to start, but the OL isn't ready for him, or vice versa, is about 50-50.

It's been said by many in the know, that some of Maye's strengths have been his intelligence, mental toughness, leadership, and taking to coaching. Let's hope all of that is true. He clearly has the arm and athletic ability. I like what I've been hearing from those that are covering the Mini-Camps.

If the offensive line is competent, Jacoby Brissette will be fine for the first couple of months until Drake Maye gets a shot. If the offensive line sucks like it did the last two years, it doesn't make a bit of difference who is quarterbacking this team.
