Law: ‘Getting Your Hands on Him’ Will Be Key in Patriots Slowing Down Hill
Ian Logue
Former New England Patriots defensive back Ty Law is no stranger when it came to drawing an opponents most dangerous receiver. However, he said on Tuesday that guys like Tyreek Hill were certainly not players he was a fan of having to deal with.

When I watched the clips from the Dolphin/Chargers game the FIRST thing I thought to myself was, Why was no one hitting him on the LOS. IIRC it is legal within 5 yds of the ball (and usually you get up to 7). Hell I'd have Mapu follow him everywhere he went and bang the piss out of the little pissant and be the under cover guy and trailer on short crossing patterns. Peppers might be another choice.

Holding up even for a second throws off the timing of the play and keeps Tua out of rhythm, gives the rush more time to get pressure, and all the other great stuff that comes when you throw a team's game plan off,

The man was 200 yds of the Miami offense (about 40%) Lets cut that in half.

BTW- you can still do this while you play zone. There are a lot of man/zone coverages and its not like you have to do it every play. Being multiple will be important this game. You don't want to give him something he will expect.

If we can't pressure their QB enough to force him to throw before the route fully develops, then it's not going to matter much how the coverage is played because Hill's gonna blow past anyone we put on him if he's given enough time to do it. The Pats' best coverage Sunday night's going to have to be their pass rush, so that Tua has no choice but to throw the short stuff instead.

I think it’s a combo of both…..have to hit him hard at LOS every time and often afterwards whenever allowable and slow him just enough…..combined with getting a lot of pressure and hopefully sacks on Tua. Tua was and is not an elite QB…..but a guy like hill (and waddle) certainly make him look like it. He was a despicable scum bag, but man can that guy play… Amazing talent and like someone said, he’s like a cheat code… Have to take him out of the equation.

Disrupting him at the LOS obviously helps, but Belichick has managed Hill effectively using a small quick CB underneath, with help over the top. This does, however, really open up Waddle underneath, and Marcus Jones will likely have to take him away.
