Needs Analysis: Defensive Line

If the only DL guy we pick up is Mount Cody, then I am happy as can be.

Cody is defintely favoring the leg since he returned to the lineup, so maybe he slips down the draft board.

If he loses a quick 60 lbs in the offseason and gets down into the 350-360 range, NFL 3-4 teams will be falling over themselves to get at him.

If we draft Cody, what is your plan with Wilfork? Would you still extend him?

For me, best case scenario is still having a Warren-Wilfork-Sey line in 2010 and beyond. If Cody slips into round 2, then I think they'd have no issues with pulling the trigger on him and worrying about where he fits and how much PT he gets.

jarvis green has become a liability against the run, and is not worth the $$ to be situational on passing downs only......dump him......and draft clinton mcdonald in round 4........extend wright because he can play every spot on the line....and then draft will johnson in round 6 or 7.........

should shore us up for the near term provided they extend wilfork and seymour

It's hard to judge Jarvis against the run since normally when he is in, he's in a 2 DL package. Even if they are playing run, they are at a disadvantage. If Jarvis can return to his production of years past in the sack department, then he's still a go to guy in passing situations.

I disagree on Jarvis vs. the run, I've never noticed him being overwelmed at the point of attack when he's subbing in at RDE in a 3-4. He's also been decent subbing in behind Warren.

McDonald looks interesting, but I'd expect a team like Indy or Buffalo to take him well before his value matches what the Pats would assign him. He's basically Jarvis Green without the experience.

I'd love to see Wright re-sign here.

Johnson looks interesting as a late round flyer. I can see him winding up on the Practice Squad and developing into a nice reserve 3-4 DE in a couple years.
