NBA Draft - Trades - Free Agents

I would have been OK giving NO Brown, Smart, a sign and trade Rozier, plus their choice of any 3 draft picks we had available. But that wouldn't have been as good as what the Lakers gave them. Adding Tatum to the mix would have been insane for one year of AD.....even if it meant you kept Irving and Horford.

huh? who would be your guards? talk about a wasted year and then wind up with nothing at all.....that would have been worse than the nets end of their deal with the C's

No it’s just stupid. You’re mocking a team that won more titles than us in 30 years and went to twice as many finals than our franchise since the 80’s.

Yeah it was in bad taste to go overboard with promising that **** but that team had success and we aren’t the ones in a place to criticize it
LA is going all in w Lebron and Davis and hoping to sign another max FA.. What's left?? scraps and 2nd round picks. Sorry but you win championships w 2 or 3 stars and a solid bench.. If one of those big 3 gets hurt, ( not a stretch w LeBron's age and Davis's history) they could end up as a lower seed or out of the playoffs.. This is the West remember which top to bottom has more quality teams than the East ( Mil, Tor, PHL, Bos)....
Just my not so humble opinion..........
Ingram and Hart's reaction to getting traded spoke volumes.....about playing w LeBron.. Those Indiana fans were brilliant with their "LeBron's gonna trade you " chant...
If N'awlins doesn't screw this up, they could be very good for years...especially if Knicks don't take Barrett with pick #3.. Can you imagine NO w Williamson, Barrett, Hart, Ingram and a haul of picks????

The 2 that I was thinking of were Morant and Garland, though in most mocks Morant is likely going 2nd and out of the C's range. Coby White would then join Garland as the best 2 options in the 4-6 area, which the C's MAY be able to get to. Both will be long gone before #14, which is Boston's top pick.

BTW- except for the experience that Tatum and Brown got, it WAS a wasted year. Any year you don't get the the most out of the talent at hand is a bad year. I'm not sure Brad Stephens could have done more to integrate Kyrie with this team, but I'm sure he's thinking very reflectively about this past season and hopefully will be a better coach because it.

LA is looking to trade the rest of their players for cap space? Lol. They will be the first team to try 3 on 5.

AD is off to a bad start not waiving his trade bonus. The Lakers did him a solid by trading for him yet $30M this year isn’t enough for him?

LA media will annihilate him if this comes back to bite the Lakers.

Average Al opts out ...
I am going against the grain thinking Ainge should let him go and not re negotiate.
I think we would be better off with a true center ... Al is more a PF now.

Average Al was Below Average this year, and his vaunted 'leadership skills' were sorely lacking.

See ya. Someone else can pay you $30 million for 13/6/4.

Not this year and apparently he will be a highly paid role player elsewhere.
I liked him as a player, and was ok with the obvious overpay (and the Celtics DID overpay by quite a bit to get him), because he was supposedly a leader and 'good in the locker room', so in the years to come, when he was signed, the true test would be showing the young talent the ropes, and teaching them how to play in the league.

He averaged 14/7/4 as a Celtic, and played decent defense. Again, it's ok having this guy on the team at that number, if he's respected, and is a leader, and does that job.

He didn't do that job, and from the looks of things, didn't TRY to do that job. Average Al, collecting a paycheck. No thank you.

Now that I have had time to think about the events surrounding the Celts...I came up with two conclusions:

a.) Trading for Kyrie was a no brainer even if it did not work out. We were not going to back up the Brinks truck for IT even if we loved him. And we also ended up giving up the 8th pick of the 2018 draft (Sexton)...only Doncic has done anything from that draft so far...and he went with the #3 pick.

b.) As soon as the Lakers landed the #4 pick, we were never getting AD. And even if we out bid the Lakers by including Tatum and all of our picks....I don't think we would be much better in 2019-2020 with AD on an one year rental...even with Kyrie...

I think we are in a good place now....we only have one MAX contract in Hayward, two young rising players, and a lot of picks in the next few drafts.....

When I saw him play vs Bucks last year I was like wow ... he was more than all star. Perhaps he was worth the overpay for the intangibles ... but Kyrie took thoae away from him.

Anyways Stephens had it right trying to get Kyrie playing the 2. But apparently Kyrie got tired of it and the rest is history.

It seems the egos and levels of immaturity/diva of NBA players are worse than those of the NFL. Do you guys agree?

Think of top tier NBA players as Top NFL WRs and you're in the same sort of ballpark.

The Lakers are perfect for today's NBA. LA celebrity culture is the perfect match for a star-driven league. What the Celtics have always stood for is twenty years out of date. I don't like it, either.

You misspelled "weather and proximity to Hollywood money".

Time for Hayward to show the **** up next year. Last year was a honeymoon period post-injury. 11/4/3 isn't going to get it done.

One rumored possibility (talked about on Zoe and Bertrand today) is for Horford to head to L.A..

LeBron James' Career Earnings Surpass $1B

I'm willing to bet if LeBron played for the league minimum, he would ultimately earn much more than his one-year salary due to soaring popularity and legacy earnings. Why does a guy whose already going over a billion - and likely to continue earning after retirement like Jordan - need to play for a max deal? Wouldn't he be better off playing for a small amount and doing everything he can to win more championships as his window closes? He's making $34M+ and is right up there with the very highest paid players in the league.

Well, in the end we all have different values. I won't even entertain him as the GOAT as a mere 3X champion even though he has self-proclaimed himself with that title.

You have no idea about that.
Yeah, I do. You do too. He did nothing. He let Kyrie do whatever he wanted, and left the kids to deal with it all. Paycheck Al.

Brad Stevens bears a lot of that responsibility as well, and I've mentioned that. Al Horford's been in the league over a decade, has been on winning squads, dealt with ****head stars (Joe Johnson, Josh Smith) and part of his selling point was his 'leadership'.

Not a word from him all year. Not a word from any source about Horford trying to get involved.

It would be a good fit for him. Golden State would also be a good fit, if he'd be willing to take less money.
