NBA Draft - Trades - Free Agents

A decent center also seemed like a bigger need to me, but maybe none is available for what Danny is willing to spend (in $, tradable players, or draft picks). If Kemba Walker was the free agent goal I'm a bit surprised Danny didn't focus more on big men in the draft, he found out about Horford leaving a few days before the draft.
I am believing Danny has already had a plan. Hes going through his progressions.

Priority in Draft- Get the best players available regardless of need. However, if the need arises to trade Tatum or Brown, prioritize drafting SF/SG.
Priority 1a- Keep Al.
Priority 1b- Keep Cryrie
Priority 2a (now 1a)- Sign Kemba
Priority 2b- Sign quality big
Priority 2c-Trade for quality big

Would you guys be opposed to moving brown to get Capela?

I see what you mean, I like your flowchart. If "Sign Kemba" is a YES, then (since he is out of $) he moves onto "Trade for quality big", which fits into the new Clint Capela rumors. I'm not sure how that would work, maybe Boston gives up Rozier and a future (non-Memphis) draft pick? If "Sign Kemba" is a NO, we try to pay for a big and either keep Rozier or go after another cheaper PG.

So: if "Sign Kemba" is YES and if Hayward returns to form physically and mentally his second year back (which I expect) the following team could really make some noise:

Walker
Tatum
Brown
Hayward
Capella

I like.

I really hope that is not the plan, Brown has too much upside. I think that would be a very short sighted mistake.

I think there will still be serviceable bigs out there even when all the max contracts slots are done being handed out

Yes ... Capela is okay but not worth losing Jaylen.

Houston's only purpose is to clear cap space without taking $ back.....they would be more interested in draft picks which at this point, would have no issue giving up the memphis pick for a combo of capela and gordon

yes.....first, Houston does not want to take any $ back.....they want to go after butler.....2nd, I think Brown could step up big now that Irving is gone

I'm not in the mood to work out cap scenarios (too busy), but maybe someone else is.

We want to add Walker and Capella, and keep

Hayward
Brown
Tatum
Smart
Ojeleye
Theis
Draftees

If/then/how?

Big fat YES in opposition. I don't know how they'd swing it for Capela but Brown was better than Tatum last year and I'm not giving him up.

I'll take any decent big who can play defense to round out the starting lineup.

Just Capela, no.

Steven Adams is a better player but more $$$ but gives us more offensively.....because of the $$ I want a #1 too. With that said I'm on the fence and I don't know how they make the cap work either.

Adams
Gordo
Tatum
Kemba
Smart

...is not bad at all.

can't do it

Really? I would hate to give up the Memphis pick, although Memphis unfortunately is starting to look like a much improved team this year and in future years.

Plus, why would we be interested in Gordon? What would he provide that we don't already have with Kemba (if he comes), Tatum and Hayward?

See ya!
Assuming Walker comes in...
And Hayward is immovable for next 2 years....
Celts will not be able to afford Brown after this year when he is an RFA.
Capela would be locked in for 4 years at progressive $$$$.....$14 mill this year/ finishing at $18 mill in ‘22/‘23.
Need an affordable competent center who has skills and fits the Celts limited $$$.
I also like the idea that a Celtics center will be positioned under the basket instead of out at the arc.
Langford will slide in and consume some of Brown’s minutes. Same with Semi if he sticks.
Let’s go

I'd rather trade Gordon and his contract than give up Brown. If we trade Brown we should be getting more than Steven Adams.

I truly think Jaylen has real upside and if you look closely at his season post-slump he was one of our best players.

That would be a bad ass, tough team. Teams would be trying to avoid playing the Celtics in the first Round of the playoffs for sure.

kemba and the capela/gordon thing are mutually exclusive.......gordon is on the books for 1 year at 14M.....and he's a good ballplayer that gives us perimeter shooting and can combo well with smart and brown since he is a combo 1/2....capela/gordon gives us much better cap flaxibility moving forward

nobody is going to take Hayward right now without taking at least equal $ back.....and by equal $ I mean equal value.....you're talking swapping hayward for someone like chris paul or jrue holliday

If we trade Gordon, IMHO it needs to be after he has proven he has returned to form in his second year after injury. He has little trade value now after his up and down (mostly down) return season last year.

I had overlooked that Gordon is only on the books for one more year, that is a good point about the cap flexibility he would give.
