This is a great example of how WRs are so overhyped/overrated. Everyone has heard of Nate Burleson, as he is a household name. He has never been spectacular in any way; he had one season where he got a shade over 1000 yards, and that's in 11 seasons. But everyone has heard of him, while no one cares about #2/#3 cornerbacks, safeties, offensive guards, etc.
Supposed to be a good locker room dude. He has some skills. Is he dependable or will he be? He has some injuries (self inflicted pizza run) but we only has one WR that was not out for stretches.
If you took four of the releases today and signed them, the Pats would be a better Team in 2014. How about S Delmas, DE Will Smith (was great as a 4-3 DE) to rotate with Jones and Nink, Burleson and Richie Incognito (if he is released and it looks that way) and I would chance him. Then pick up Sidney Rice and Owen Daniels and re-sign Talib and Edelman and Blount and I say we are on our way. The Draft is for depth.
If we're looking at veterans that the Lions just cut, I'd rather have Louis Delmas. He's pretty decent when he can stay healthy (which he did last year). Better than Gregory, at least.
