Lot's of names being kicked around here, quite rightly as it's still early in the process but there's three that I haven't seen discussed which have some interest for me in the early to mid-rounds:

1. Ronnell Lewis Oklahoma

The least likely fit for the Patriots as he's projected to go low first, early second and I don't think the Pats would have that high a grade on him. However, he's an outstanding tackler, great in side to side pursuit and plays with a real intensity. He plays DE but projects as a 3-4 OLB (probably too small for a Patriots OLB) but if he can be had late second, third round, I'd love him as a special teams beast, situational pass rusher and even ILB cover. Would bring real pace and intensity to the defense. As an aside, one football memory I have was a commentator saying of Lawrence Taylor that the only way to try and be successful against him was to run directly at him because at least then you can assign a blocker and have have a chance. I saw Lewis make a play in which he ran down a runner from behind that put me in mind of LT (not that I'm comparing the two). Was a great play.

2. Stephon Gilmore CB S Carolina

Not a prototypical CB but more versatile than that. Excellent blitzer, good in run support, intelligent and a good reader of the game. NFL Mocks love this guy and see him as a Charles Woodson type player. I like that he'd offer our defense something a little different. We have our cover guys, for me, Gilmore would be that added wrinkle that could improve this defense.

3. Rueben Randle WR LSU

Outside of the top three WR's, I like Rueben Randle as a potential No1 receiver and am really surprised he doesn't get more love amongst draftniks everywhere. I really like his physicality, rarely drops the ball and he has good speed. If I'm looking for a No 1 receiver outside the first round, Randle's my man.

I like all three but wouldn't necessarily take them as they are currently projected. However, if they fell to the late second or third rounds, then I think all three could be plus pick-ups for the Patriots.

I really wanted to start this thread with the idea of discussing names not generally discussed so feel free to add your own.

Ronnell Lewis flunked out of Oklahoma. Is that possible if you play football? Even Bob Stoops told him it was time to move on. Major red flag there. I like Ruben Randle. If we can get him in the middle of the 2nd fine. Ain't going crazy for him. If we want Gilmore, will have to use 1st or 2nd on him. I don't think he's any better than Dowling. I'd like to give Ras-I a shot before I spend another first on a cb.

Gilmore is a junior so there is no guarantee he's going to declare. As it stands right now, he's rated as the 5th best CB for the 2013 Draft according to NFLDraftScout. Not sure where he'd be rated if he came out. Also, a lot would depend on whether he came out as a CB or a Safety or if he said he didn't care.

As for Reuben Randle, he's another guy who is a junior and hasn't declared his intent just yet. Randle is rated the 4th best WR in the 2013 draft at this time.

Jake Bequette......I think he's going to be an impact player in the NFL

good size, great speed......no experience as a 3-4 OLB, but I think he could excel in the pats scheme, and he could be good value in the 3rd round

Out of Arkansas. 6'4 5/8" (approx.) and 271. He has 19 sacks over the last 3 years.. Could make a really good Elephant if he's got the smarts.. Can play the run pretty well.. If he runs close to the 4.62 Projected with good splits, then he could definitely be there at the end of the 2nd or in the 3rd round..

I've had my eye on ~ and just mentioned on the CornerBack Thread ~ Stephon Gilmore for a long time, my good man. He was in my Mock V1.0.

Of course, he and others've seen their Stock rise considerably.

I would absolutely love to get that guy.

Excellent Thread.

I threw his name out in the 2012 WR thread but I'll put it here again:

Jordan White - WR - Western Michigan. He made the American Football Coaches All America team. He's listed as 6'0'' 215 lbs. Extremely productive. His stats from soph / junior / senior are:

Rec Yds Tds
53 684 4
94 1378 10
127 1646 16

A brief scouting report from OG draft: High character, good hands, decent route runner but could improve, not great straight line speed but not horrible, good finding holes in the zone.

For those concerned about level of competition consider that Greg Jennings is a Western Michigan Alum and didn't produce quite as much as White.

I'll add that I put more stock in to something coaches voted on over anybody else's opinion.

Other names from the All-America list:
DB - Markelle Martin, Oklahoma State
DB - DeQuan Menzie, Alabama
LB - Jarvis Jones, Georgia
LB - Lavonte David, Nebraska
DL - Alex Okafor, Texas
AP - LaMichael James, Oregon

Don't know much about the D guys but I'd take a flier on James. Dude knows how to play the game and can flat out FLY. I think he'd be an instant upgrade on the KR. Also James was one of two players to make the team for 2 straight years. Give me a guy who is a gamer and I think BB will squeeze something out of him. James could be Darren Sproles 2.0

He was kinda inconsistent this year...disappeared against LSU. But he did have some injuries. Im worried that he relies on his bull rush too much though...that wont work at the next level. He has a good motor though

DL - Alex Okafor, Texas
Hey guys, new poster here but I have been reading for a while.

Okafor is a name I haven't heard much about, perhaps because he is a junior. If searched the internets without finding much. I know he's 6'4 1/2" 260 lbs DE with 7 sacks for Texas.

Whenever I watch 'Bama play, this guy stands out. He's projected as a third day pick apparently owing to a lack of speed. He's a player though. If we end up getting a sixth rounder, I wouldn't be at all disappointed if we gave him a look.

As for your WR, nice find. But I'm not sure about the Patriots and project receivers. There's not a good track record there.

Menzie is a talented guy, but he has a verified 4.66 forty-time. That will scare off a LOT of teams.

When you are in the same secondary as Barron,Lester and Kirkpatrick, you are going to get thrown on a lot.

To his credit he has not backed down at all. But the lack of speed is a huge red flag. Although we once had Otis "7.6" Smith in our defensive backfield.

Played DT last year. Ideal size, good (but not great) movement skills. He's extremely fast, and has a shot of breaking into the 4.5s in my opinion. Slightly linear as a pass-rusher, but that may be due to his time spent on the interior of the trenches and going straight ahead all the time. He's a bit leggy, and doesn't seem as coordinated as I would like from a fully matured athlete, but he has outstanding athleticism, works hard, and is a far better run defender than most DEs. I like Okafor a lot, but I think he's one-two years away from being a full time contributor.

He's similar to JPP or Aldon Smith, but less polished than either of them coming out of school, although he displays better integrity in run defense. Could he achieve their level of play? Possibly, although I'm a bit doubful. I think he's more of a solid guy who occasionally makes impact plays. Still, he's definitely on the radar.

I am a not a fan of Randle.I like Criner from arizona. Also Tommy Streeter from miami whose very raw.

Just mentioned Eric Page out of Toledo elsewhere (look him up) - the kid who plays LT for the Rockets is worth a look too.

His name is Mike VanderMeulen, he's started 4 straight seasons (50 games is the streak I think), character guy, smart (he's a finalist for the Bowden award). From the few minutes of footage I've seen, he's not as agile as we normally love, but he's good technically, strong kid, long arms, good footwork - he's the type of body Dante could sculpt into a starter.

Very similar to the last Toledo O-lineman we took.....

The last Toledo O line kinda sucked from 2007 onward.

Another late round OT worth a look is Hoch from Mizzu. At 6'6" and 320 pounds however he may be too short to play OT for us. We seem to like the 6'8" crowd nowadays.

I'll second that. Give me a guy that's produced like that over a big name with elite measurements any day of the week. White also had a lights out performance in his bowl game vs Purdue (13 for 265, a BCS bowl record).

I'd like Yoda in the latter rounds. While leaking athleticism, he's been a productive four-year starter who's tough as nails. Good run blocker, needs a little work at pass blocking. He comes from a fire fighting/law enforcement family. Remind you of anyone we've had in the interior of the offensive line?

MSU football: Spartan offensive line follows its Yoda | Lansing State Journal | lansingstatejournal.com

Joel Foreman would be our new Joe Andruzzi, whom I liked a lot. And unlike Andruzzi who was undrafted and played at a no-name Conn. school (I hope that doesn't offend anyone), this guy has been knocking heads on a pretty high level for four freakin' years. Cracks ribs and keeps playing.

And unlike the Penn State player who is the size of my kid brother and was drafted way too high, this guy has the size. No growing needed, except some upper body strength.

You can see how freakishly similar are the rankings of Ohrnberger and Foreman. Identical. What Ohrnberger has over Foreman in speed, Foreman makes up for in size.
