Dryheat, I was curious that you didn't mention McGarigle in your 3rd-round ILB group...any thoughts?

Ignorance, pure and simple. I know virtually nothing about him. I certainly don't have any strikes against him.

I guess my project as defined in the opener is John Chick of Utah St. DE

BOR, 31 CBs and still no love for my pet Rolando Humphrey? Ah, the humanity!

Another couple I like:

Travis Leffew, OL, Louisville
OT who probably projects to guard. Smart, durable (50 consecutive starts), moves well, excellent technician, good awareness, team leader.

Wyatt Gayer, Anderson
The ultimate project: a Division III phenom. Played mostly DE but could project to ILB. Very hard hitter, very strong, quite athletic, reported to be a spectacularly hard worker on and off the field. Based on his name alone, could surpass Randall Gay as a UDFA find.
6'1" 250

Oh! Wouldn't that be a hoot. We could have Gay and Gayer in our defense. Next year maybe we could find Gayest and then our defense would be inpenetrable?!

hmm what about 1 of those WRs from Auburn? Ben Obomanu and Devin Aromashodu?

Garrett McIntyre to move to ILB for the Pats like Bruschi did.

Fresno State connection again; described as a hard worker, classic overachiever, and all the coaches love him. Had great stats 2 years ago but was injured a bit last year. Has the speed and quickness and the mental drive to move to ILB if he loses 5-10 pounds.

Pro Day numbers:

McIntyre (6-3, 262) played defensive end in college but will probably be a linebacker in the NFL. He was timed at 4.87 and 4.76 in the 40 and had a 32½-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot-8 broad jump and 27 lifts. He also ran the short shuttle in 4.30 and the three-cone drill in 7.44.

Just remember the name...

Great info. Those are the off the radar screen guys that people should become aware of. Ther are certainly guys playing in the NFL right now who come from those type of programs.

Is there a guy named Gayest?

Sighs, shakes his head at youthful impatience.

Those 31 CBs were the ones I'm projecting to the 6th round or later, your laddy will be showing up on the CB board as a middle rounder once I've finished researching Pro-Day numbers.

I was going to gbring up Michael Robertson QB, from Pen State. Here is a guy without a real position. I've seen some project him as a WR and others project him as a RB. He's been projected to go anywhere between the 4th and 7th round.

However, I just read in this weeks Sporting News that the Steelers are hot for him. They look at him as a Randel-El type player. They could take him with their 2nd round pick.

Damn, I was going to suggest him too (and did in another thread).

If he's gone early, then I'd say they look at Brad Smith, QB from Missouri, who may actually be a better WR convert than Robinson (not Robertson BTW).
http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/qb/bradsmith.html

Or Reggie McNeal (he'd be the best QB-WR project I think).
http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/qb/reggiemcneal.html

My top project pick would be Ryan LaCasse, DE to OLB convert:
http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/de/ryanlacasse.html
267 pounds, and at his Pro Day he ran 40s in the 4.4-4.5 range. Don't know why the site above says he's not an outstanding natural athlete - running a 4.47 40 at 267 pounds is pretty outstanding, I'd say.

Major UFA steal

Will Derting LB I might be a little biased being a WSU fan and watching all the games, but this guy is amazing. As a freshman, he was the team leader. He's a solid tackler. He played both OLB and MLB. He would be in on every tackle from sideline to sideline. After his sophmore season, everyone thought he would a 1st round pick for sure, but disaster struck and he got hurt in his junior season, and then because of another freak injury he missed his senior season. (He tried to let it heal and put surgery off too-late.) Has totally fallen off the radar because it was too soon from surgery to go to the Combine. This is the kind of guy you could sign, IR him for a year, and have a major prospect in 07 (somebody that would be a 1st day pick).

Mark my words, if he's healthy he we will be a solid NFL player.

Jeremy Bloom WR/PR Colorado

He is a superb return man in the mold of Tim Dwight. Very elusive in the open field. In his two years at Colorado he had five plays of 75 yards or more (all for TD's). His first punt return was a 75 yarder for a TD.

He is the highly publicized athlete who was denied eligibility from the NCAA because he ws receiving endorsement and training money from the US Ski Team. He competed in the recent Olympics in mogul skiing and left to attend the Combine where he ran a 4.5 without the weeks of specialized training the other athletes had.

Risk/Reward on him is very high and worth using one of out two sixth round compensatory picks on.

hes bad in coverage, and too small for ILB, if he gained a few pounds however, he'd be the PERFECT ILB, good blizter, solid tackler, team leader, etc

yeah, and at 247 he could gain weight over the off-season. 247 is too small for a 4-3 MLB (Bruschi is a 247), but in a 3-4 he could be OLB (Colvin is 250), (Vrabel is 266).

I like Rice - John Syptak - DE 6-2 240

Has good size and a big solid frame...Displays pretty good timed speed...An excellent natural athlete...Outstanding pass rusher...Intense and has a non-stop motor...Strong and powerful...Is very smart with good instincts for the game.

Played defensive end in college but will likely move to linebacker as a pro...It is never easy when you are projecting a player to a new position at the highest level of competition but he would seem to have all the tools to make the move.

Excellent call, I think he could do some great things if he's given some time to develop and spends an offseason in Europe playing in NFLE.

He's working out for scouts Saturday - he was featured on NFL Total Access tonight and has been working with Ed McCaffrey (Donkeys Ret.) who was a WR I appreciated.
