N’Keal Harry Requests Trade

Here's the thing about Harry: we've seen a successful version of a player with his traits. Several of them in fact.

Look at Dez Bryant. He was never a technician as a route runner and didn't separate with speed. But he was extremely aggressive - he used his size to box out corners and was very good at attacking the ball. He bullied corners all over the field, so he didn't NEED separation on every play to be a high percentage target. And of course he killed it in the red zone.

Harry DOES NONE OF THESE THINGS. He has all the same physical traits and limitations as Bryant, but plays SOFT. He gets bulled by 5'10" 180lb corners in spite of being a jacked 6'3" 230lbs.

Young Dez Bryant would run the wrong route and get confused. He needed to improve things to be the really good starter he was for a while there. But you ALWAYS saw the aggression, the violent style of play that type of receiver has to have to become a major asset for a team. But for Harry that's been the exception, not the rule.
My hope for Harry was a prime Dez or Anquan Boldin. We didn't even get Arron Dobson.

i keep forgetting we have 17 regular season games now... but 500 attempts strikes me as a lot with Cam under center... but not dying on a hill trying to defend that opinion
Yea that's a little less than 30 att a game. Some games might be in the 40s. Some in the low 20s. Power football is what this team is built to do.

before it said 'completions'
I didn't change it/edit. I commented on what I thought Gun would catch. Targets was after that but I can see the confusion.

I would have been totally fine with a Dobson rookie year.

It would be a lot with Cam, and may even be a lot for Mac (given they're unlikely to just have a rookie air it out on a nightly basis). But as an exercise in target distribution, it's a nice round number to work with.

I think someone will wind up with >90 targets.......there's always someone who rises up to be a go to

Just looked and Dobson's rookie year was better than Harry's career. That game against Pittsburg his rookie year he had a couple TD's and I remember thinking we had something in Dobson. Things seemed to nosedive after the broken foot and he ended up in the doghouse.

A slightly less talented version of Bryant is Ashon. That is probably an even better comp for Harry, who should be able to make a similar impact to Jeffery, given his strength and leaping ability. Harry was extremely aggressive and physical in college, which make me believe that an extreme lack of confidence is playing a significant role in his NFL playing style. Part of his tentativeness is likely due to his discomfort in the offense. He still looks like he is thinking too much and is afraid to make a mistake.

“He gets bulled by 5'10" 180lb corners”. That’s just a dumb, inaccurate statement, which you are probably basing on one play that got a lot of run on the web. He regularly bullied CBs, especially as a blocker, a role in which he was undeniably effective last year.

First 11 games in a NEP uniform
35 catches/492yds/4TDs
1 inactive

Last 37 games in an NEP uniform
18/206/0
23 inactive/IR

Damn shame he couldn't cut it here. He had such a promising start.

Granted he faced a ton of nickel and dime defenses but I thought he ran hard during that stretch. Lowered his pads a few times and did a nice job of giving them a running game.
LoMo had the worst vision of any NFL running back I've ever seen. He did lower his pads nicely, but he didn't quite figure out how to run to open space.

I tend to agree.

My money is on Jakobi.
If he's available for all 17 games, you might see Hunter Henry approach 100 targets...

still trying to figure out what the predominant personnel groupings are gong to be with this group based on the roster...

gotta be running back heavy, no? but then that limits the new tight end/receiver combinations... so why bring them in? but if it is back heavy. that might allow teams to tee off on the running game especially if they dont fear Cam as a passer anymore...

unless the number of backs are limited because of cams running ability...

gahhh... think i am going crazy... been a looooooooong off season

Yea he was bad. He needed a hole the size of 495 to see

At the end of the day it was his running style which did him in. Ran too upright and the shoulder injuries started to mount. He became timid and was resistant to run how they wanted him to.

done in by injuries... just couldnt stay healthy, much like Malcolm Mitchell, who also had a potentially bright future

Another bet i'm prepared to make.

Hunter Henry will not play all 17 games which is why Asiasi will make the roster.

Jakob was in on 38% of the snaps last year and most were at FB. I don't see that changing too much.

In terms of personnel 12 and 22 will be the dominant groupings but we'll see Smith and HH split wide a lot.

Yea but I think MM had the right mentality for this place. He just couldn't stay on the field.

Dobson was given a clean bill of health and couldn't handle the day-to-day life of being here.

Dobson had that Twitter rant last year where he claimed that the Patriots coaches yelled at him for wearing a hoodie and hanging out with defensive players. Seems like he has some immaturity issues.

And my personal favorite Tweet of the rant. He sure showed us!

Yep. That aligns with my belief he just couldn't deal with the grind here.

Brady threw the ball his way so he clearly knew what he was doing out there.

Gotta drink, eat, breathe, sleep and poop football here. Take hard coaching.

There is a level of commitment this place demands of players not all can achieve.

We saw it with Dobson.

We are seeing it from do N'Kuthin.

Meyers is one of these guys who just has an innate ability to get open on a consistent basis, despite lacking elite speed and athleticism. I don’t believe that the final 11 games were a fluke or case of there being so few options in the passing game. In my opinion they are more likely an early indication of a special player. I wouldn’t be surprised if he puts up some big numbers this year, despite the WR and TE additions. He needs to find a way to turn some of those catches into 6 points, though.
