They have to realistic too. I have confidence that Vrabel will be trying to build a contender as fast as he can, but I realize that the Pats currently have very little to work with at this point to be one. And trading away a high draft pick or two for a guy who may not be elite in two years is not the best way to build a contender when you are starting at the bottom.
They have the QB and 125 million plus the #4 pick and a schedule with 8 games against teams that won 5 or less games this year.
They should absolutely expect to make the playoffs this year.

Here is another thought. Abdul Carter, age 21, on a 4 year contract $65,320,310 vs Myles Garrett, age 29, on a 3 year contract or $81million.

I take Carter and make him a building block for a new franchise.
Unfortunately, Carter will get drafted before we pick at #4.

Yup. It's pretty much a guarantee that the Pats can get either Graham or Carter at 4. So if pass rush is that big, we can either get one of them in their early 20's and have them locked down for 4 years on the cheap to build around and then when we have to decide on paying them they are still in their mid 20's OR we can trade it to pay top dollar for Garrett who will be 30 by the end of next season and hoping he's still elite by the time we have any chance to make runs
If Carter is still there at #4 it would be a borderline miracle. Graham is probably the best choice that we'll have for a Day 1 Starting Caliber Player when we pick, at least on Defense. This past season was so bad, we couldn't even get the #1 Overall Pick to show for it!

We should pursue him, but if he requested a trade because he wants to win not sure how happy he'd be here. Doesn't seem likely.

Worst aspect of this is that Carter probably goes #2 overall now, if not #1. He's the guy I really covet for us at #4.
Getting Carter at #4 would be a miracle. We couldn't even secure the #1 damn pick in the draft! We may have to settle for Graham at #4 (although there are a few other players who are rated as Year1 Starters).

They are a first year in a new rebuild. They are currently arguably the least talented team in the league. They are at least two years away from being a contender.

And making the playoffs as a wild card team is their ceiling. That is still unlikely. An 8-9 or 9-8 season would be a great step forward. Expecting them to get into the playoffs is setting yourself up for failure. If the the Pats were in the NFC, you could higher hopes. But they are facing an up hill battle to make the playoffs in the AFC.

And stop with the strength of schedule stuff. The Commanders had the second worst record in the NFL one year and went to the NFCCG the next. SOS one year means nothing the next.

And don’t use the Commanders to make the point that the Pats are destined for the playoffs. The Commanders are the exception, not the rule.

So you think that the Patriots organization shouldn’t have a goal of contending, they shouldn’t aspire to making the playoffs because having expectations sets you up for failure? You think Vrabel and crew should point toward 6 wins?

I’m not taking about SOS, I am saying they have a new coaching staff, have the qb, and 125 mill and if they don’t today believe they are building team better than the jets, saints, giants, browns, titans, raiders and panthers they should all quit and go home.

Competitive athletes do not set low goals so they aren t disappointed.
If this team has a good off season it will be a playoff team. It should hold itself accountable to having a good off season, not think it’s ok to **** it up again because we can’t expect too much

They should and have a goal of being a contender, but that doesn’t mean you have to live in a fantasy world. This is a horrible team that needs to replace a lot of parts. This team is on a multiyear rebuild. Being a .500ish team next year would be a huge step towards becoming a contender.

Belichick didn’t make the Patriots a playoff team his first year and he had far more talent than this team.

Garrett is going to command premium draft compensation and premium salary cap money. To a team that is contending, he’s going to be worth it. For a team like us though? He would definitely bring some entertainment value but not worth the cost.

I want your psychiatrist. They’re ****ing good!
I can give you a recommendation.. they are actually a good group called Maye McDaniels-Vrabel They are actually in the process of adding some really good additions soon. If you need help before then dial 911.

NOONE knows how far that "Collaboration" went, and we probably never will.
Blaming Bill ALONE is probably a mistake, considering he generally is a trench guy.
They ALL make mistakes, it just seems like "Bills"are more of an EXCUSE for everything that has happened, compared to others...look at Saint Shanahan and crew.
I throw up over myself.
Your correct. The difference in NE was that everything ran through Bill. It wasn't until 2021 thar the drafting has prompted ownership to have a different approach.. Bill likely didn't mind he still was getting his. $$$.. I miss Bill and last season made me realize that . I'm just happy we have Vrabel.

Patriots should be striving to be a contender right now
I have to give you props ring 6.. you have been on the importance of coaching since last season. Coaching was a direct reason as to why we were worse. I absolutely agree with you 6.. they should be striving to be a contender next season and under Vrabel I believe they will.
