The Browns are currently $30 plus million over the cap. They would take an additional $16 million cap hit if they cut or trade Garrett before June 1st. That means any trade will likely happen after that. That would mean the Pats would have to go through free agency and the draft not addressing edge rusher and hope they can get a deal done in the summer with the Browns.

They can address edge rusher and still trade for Garret. The only credible edge rushers we have on our team are Keion White and Anfernee Jennings. And neither of them are really ideal options for passing downs - Jennings is a run down package player in an ideal world and White is better served playing inside for passing downs. In an ideal world you'd like to have 3-4 guys to rotate through the EDGE spots on passing downs and we currently only have 2 guys who are credible players at the position to begin with and neither should be playing it on passing downs.

They could sign an edge rusher, draft one and still have a solid need for someone else. Especially if it's a player of Garret's caliber.

When he started there the Browns looked like they were turning a corner. They had the horrible 0-16 season, but the jumped right to middle of the pack, they got Baker, looked like they finally had their QB, they had Stefanski and looked like they had stability at coaching. They finally won their first playoff game since they relaunch in the 90's after the team moved.

The Watson signing completely destroyed all of that and you know the team is stuck with this disaster and horrible contract for a bit. Now's the time to get out before he hits the wrong side of 30 and his options start becoming limited.

This is a piece you add when you are knocking on the door. They will want at least 1 first round pick +, and that will depend upon how high the pick is. The Patriots can’t afford to give up picks that high, they are at the beginning of the rebuild.

Garrett said he wanted to go somewhere where the plan was clear, qb in place and coaching. We've been rebuilding since brady left. We whiffed on the draft picks that is why we are where we are.

If he was a 26 year old free agent then it might make some sense, but when they aren’t going to be serious contenders for at least 3 seasons it doesn’t make sense to me to sign a high-priced pass rusher who will be 33 by the time they would be in contention.

If we were talking about a left tackle, or a really disruptive defensive tackle it would make sense, because that’s closer to their prime years, and they can be really productive into their mid, and sometimes late 30’s. But guys who rely on speed and quickness start a precipitous decline around 30, and drop off really fast at that point.

There are people here who want every big name that comes up, and think they can magically turn into a Super Bowl contender overnight, and that just isn’t going to happen, and they need to realize that. The reality is, at least imo, that no matter how good this offseason is they will be contending for a wild card, at best, next December. That makes them a .500 team that could squeeze into the playoffs. And maybe even get a playoff win. That’s the absolute best case scenario, and I’m an optimist, Then, if they can have another really good free agency and draft in 26’ they could possibly contend for the division, and maybe get a win or two in the playoffs, and that again would be a really optimistic scenario. IF they can put together 2 really good offseasons, and everything goes right it’s possible they could win their division and be actual contenders for a Championship in 27, and that’s a really sunny outlook, at which point they should be considering moves for a big time player who could be that key piece to get them over the top and to another Lombardi. That would make sense at that point, but making that move years away from real contention makes absolutely no sense at all, especially considering the position and likelihood of his play dropping off by then.

Agreed. I think this is the year we can make the playoffs. I feel like we can solve the needs in the next 2 months. We all can Agree the problem last season was more on coaching then anything. If Vrabel and McDaniels had this team last season we win 8-9 games. I'll never overlook the importance of coaching again. Vrabel took Ryan Tannehill to the AFCCG and had the Chiefs on the ropes.

Huck, it has relevance because we can't ignore that we missed on the draft. Bill was ultimately fired due to the drafting.. the drafting is a reason why the roster isn't good. Look at KC they drafted well, eagles drafted well. Post brady we haven't. The roster has bottomed out. I agree the trenches is where we need to dedicate resources. Furthermore realistically who knows what Cleveland would take for Garrett. Any contender is going to have give up draft capital.

Yep coaching is a big part of it but as we all know the team needs talent to compete with the upper echelon teams.

We don't need all-pros at each position I mentioned but if Vrabel can improve each unit the playoffs are not an unreasonable goal in 2025.
