Don't be so hard on these players. They simply don't have very much talent. Flowers
and Gilmore are their only good players. Jacksonville has 6 Probowl players on defense. As for offense, they have plugged in Patterson at wide receiver even though
he has been a total failure at wr on other teams.
Clap, clap.
This is the harsh truth that many aren’t acknowledging. A bunch of bust drafts and this is the real problem, not the scheme or coaching. Look at the 2014 team. Revis, McCourty, Chung, Wilfork, Jones, Collins, and Hightower. With the exception of Chung, that’s six players who have been at one time considered among the very best in the NFL at their positions.
Let’s face it, from a pure talent standpoint this team is a shell of its former self. Gilmore is a good player, but he cost a lot (that’s what happens when you don’t develop homegrown talent.). Hightower, assuming he can regain his speed, is still a top player. McCourty and Chung are still chugging along okay but looking at their ages it’s likely they are in decline or at least have plateaud. Beyond that, this is a weak collection of talent. Flowers is a very good player but it’s not like he’s an all-pro; he is by far and away the best of their front 7 though. Roberts and LB3 might not make a lot of team’s rosters. Their defensive line starts what would be backups or specialists on past teams, but fans overrate them because they are starting for the Patriots.
I was really hoping they’d have a huge draft, but it looks like they are going to come up short again. Makes me even more frustrated about the return they got for Garoppolo.
I think they’ll be in the hunt this year, but this is from a talent perspective the weakest roster they’ve had in many years, you can’t blame injuries, and there aren’t any developing project players ready to emerge. This team badly needs to hit the jackpot in a draft very soon.
