My take on Moss fans

Re: My take on Moss fans.

You sound like one of those guys who when Matt Cassel was the QB was happy because it was "refreshing" to have close games.

Who am I to tell you what you can and can't like, but I'm much happier when my team is winning by lots of points than when my team has to sneak it out.

My heart is much happier with that option too.

Re: My take on Moss fans.

there is no 'I' in team ... anyone who has even coached youth sports knows this. Addition by subtraction many times energizes other players to step up. If you as a coach think you have players who have more to give then addition by subtraction can work everytime.

At this stage of his career any receiver who can stretch the field can replace Moss. IMO he had red zone value but that was about it. If you can replace his red zone production and you have a WR to stetch the field then you can replace him. His hand eye coordination is not what it once was ... that's the life of an aging player. If he was on board his contribution as a leader was greater than his contributions on the field.

But he was going to be phased out ... he saw it and didn't like it.

Oh well ... the team will go on.

Mark my words ... increased throws to Moss will put him on the shelf.

I said this at the end of last year and I say it now ... he cannot be on the field for a large amount of plays. If Favre throws his more than 6-8 passes a game Moss will break down with injuries ...

Quote me if you wish ... phasing him out was the correct move.

Our defense needs to be on the field less ... we need to control TOP more and keep the other teams offense off the field more. Ball control will be our ticket to the playoffs.

I liked 2001's result better than 2007's.

Re: My take on Moss fans.

Deion is certifiable because he was a me player too, just like some fans here are me centric.

LOL. Teenuh is the reason the Ignore button was created. Deion Sanders "flawlessly" explaining anything is the height of comedy.

I'd say it was created to avoid koolaid chuggers like you.

He was also one of the best at his position so he just might know a thing or two about football. You know, more than just a bunch of people sitting at their computers.

Then feel free to hit ignore and go stick your head back in the sand while we lose to the ravens and chargers due to our new impotent offense.

Yeah, I was one of the koolaid chuggers myself until the Moss trade. I was always saying we could be fine everytime something bad happened. But this is just ridiculous.... He trades away our best receiver in the middle of the season for next to nothing and has absolutely NO ONE to replace him. Tate can't get the job done if that's what he has in mind. Tate can't stretch defenses and draw double coverage. No defense is afraid of Tate. We have no viable deep threat anymore.

Maybe not Tate ... but what if hernandez could draw some double coverage. If hernandez can draw some double coverage then the solution gets closer.

Hernandez has shown great ability to get YAC so far, so while he may not draw double coverage there may be safety help over the top on his side.

The people who are so upset over the trade are of the "He's a freak of nature, who else is going to make those highlight reel catches" mindset. They fell in love with the stripper.

Personally, even if the Pats had went 19-0...I enjoyed watching the 03-04ish Pats much more. It was a balanced attack, and the games were more exciting. You had the feeling the Pats would probably win, but they weren't blowing teams out.

Pats fans became Colts fans...in love with the deep ball. To use a baseball analogy...give me a guy that has a great on base percentage and batting average over a guy that has 40 HRs but bats .250 (cough, Yankees, cough.)

I think Belichick realized that Moss, while a great player, wasn't the missing piece of a championship. I think he also had in mind what he wanted the team to become.

Brady threw for 4,400 yards last year and Moss caught 13 TDs...but it meant nothing as they went 10-6 and got bounced out of the playoffs right away.

Moss was fun to watch, but fantasy football doesn't win championships.

I'm confident the team can play more like it did on Monday night. That was the most satisfying game for me to watch in years.

Do they have the experience to win like that every game? Of course not. But I don't think losing Moss equates to losing more games.

I think you're loony. Moss was one more weapon option, a legitimate deep threat. Whether he was thrown to or not, defenses had to respect his abilities and plan for it. His being on the field was a force multiplier, and he will be that way for another 2 or 3 years.

This entire football team is designed to work with multiple options. The playbook is designed to take advantage of multiple skill sets. Now one of those option is gone.

That doesn't mean the team won't be successful. It can and will be. I have no doubt NE will make a VERY strong statement this year. However, at this point, it's down one very important option and that means doing more with less, always a more difficult challenge.

Respects,

Ugh... After looking back at my own post when I said we have no viable deep threat anymore, I just realized something truly horrible. The Vikings have become the Patriots and the Patriots have become the Vikings, except with a worse defense and running game.

This isn't happening.... I'll wake up any moment and it will all have been just a horrible dream.

The Vikes could use more fans. Bye!

If we had the key parts of the 03-04 team, I'd agree with you. Teams without Randy Moss on them have won the SB every year that he's been in the league, so nobody's saying that it can't be done. My question is whether or not this Patriots team can win the SB without Moss, and I'm skeptical of that. I don't know if the defense is good enough to consistently keep us in close games; the difference between 12-4 and a first round bye and 9-7 and missing the playoffs may very well be the ability to make teams play from 2 TDs down so that our pass rush specialists like TBC, Warren, and Pryor can get in there and do what they do best. We don't have guys like Seymour, McGinest, Warren and Vrabel who can play on every down anymore.

If we had the '04 defense, I wouldn't mind seeing Moss go.

This team WITH Moss wasn't getting it done either. Even with one of the strongest teams ever.

There are many reasons to be sad about this trade but "This just cost us our Superbowl" doesn't make too much sense in light of our history, with and without Moss.

Re: My take on Moss fans.

1.) You always want great players if you can get them. It has nothing to do with "fell in love with the stripper". It does have something to do with 47 touchdowns in 3 years.

2.) The offense, on Monday, had one touchdown drive and two field goals. Everything else was either a direct, or indirect, product of special teams and defensive scores. Of the 41 points, 28 came off of special teams/defense.

Indeed. Special teams kept the offense off the field. I'm not sure you really want to blame the offense for that, but to each his own.

I didn't blame the offense for anything.

This team was 3-1 and I believed they were gonna go 12-4 and maybe even 13-3 and that offense was good enough to win a superbowl, the only question was the defense but it will get better as they get games under their belt.

Problem now is that we lose the guy that draws double teams all the time and can still make an amazing catch and now teams can concentrate more on the box which causes huge problems for that offense.

To say we weren't going to the big game is just ludicrous, there is less chance of it now though unless Tate can be the man that is.

Impotent offense? My, we're a bit over the top now, aren't we?
