My Only WTF Moment

I gave the draft an A+.

I was a bit surprised when we traded down from 75, but getting the 2026 pick seemed worth it, especially when we got the same player at 85.

WOODSON was my WTF moment. Again, I was more than fine when we got the same player we would have picked with our next pick. I really didn't wanted to pass on Farmer. But all's well that ends well. In the end, Woodson was a bonus.

Analysts and posters really dislike drafting STers. Woodson is a fine STer AND a backup free safety, AND a backup nickel back, AND a backup outside corner. In the end, he is a perfect #5 or #6 corner (replacing Bolden and/or Dial). Also, I like the idea that we drafted a kicker and a long snapper rather than waiting for the UDFA's and maybe not getting who Vrabel wanted. The right kicker and long snapper are worth more than a 6th and a 7th.

My only disappointment was not drafting Vrabel's top choice for TE in the 7th rather than waiting for the UDFA's. Perhaps his man was one of the UDFA's anyway.

Cowden told us he's a S but will play all over at times. They picked him where he was valued so to them he wasn't a reach.

I went back and listened to the NFLSE podcast on defensive linemen and it turned out that he had come into FSU as a 250 lb DE, and put on 65lbs of almost all muscle. He also spent this entire season with offenses keying on him because their team sucked, and was relentless in his play. He’s also going to become a really good 3 technique DL for them.

Yeah, I did not like this pick either, simply because I don't know the player and there were guys on the board who I did know and who I thought would be better fits. The kid has skills and he can play FS, then its a good one.

If you heard cowden interview they mentioned about how crucial communication is and they wanted an immediate starter at free safety where communication is vital and he has great speed more than dMac. So doesn't really matter when you drafted a 140-180 guy at 100 . Typically 4th rounders are just contributors or depth pieces unless they play a WR or TE and they pan out. This was a need and he fit their bill.

I was actually impressed by their patience in sticking by their board. I was really worried that Henderson was going to go before 38, and was hoping they would get aggressive to go get him, but they stood pat and he was there. Same thing went for WR in the 3rd, I kept worrying a run would clean them out but again they stood pat and got a really good one. I didn’t like it at all when they traded down from 77, but again they were patient and got the best center in the draft. If anything I thought they were too patient, and traded down too much. But overall they had a really good sense of how the rounds were going to go down, and whether their guys would be there when they picked. IMO this was one of Wolf’s biggest contributions to this draft. I think Vrabel gets credit for the picks, but I think Wolf was the one who had rated the players more generically, and knew who was going when. It’s hard to be sure but that’s my best guess.

I'm still confused about the first 7th round pick.

If not a TE because Vrabel thought that there would be plenty about equal as UDFA's, then why not a backup QB? Does he really think that an UDFA will be as good a choice as Ewers or Rourke? Why take the risk? He still could have brought in an UDFA to compete for the #3 position.

I think that Vrabel seems to be risking a lot regarding Maye's health for the next 3 years. It always helps to have the 3rd QB just in case, or even as competitor for #2 in 2026 or 2027.

I think we can slot him into the Jaylin Hawkins spot and while he can back up the corner spots you mention he doesn't necessarily have to impact the battle for depth corners between Dial, Austin and whoever else. Woodson versatile might allow you to try and slip one of them to the practice squad but there's potentially room for them all if the play well enough.

If anyone is feeling the squeeze from this selection it's probably Mapu. Just another reason to try him more at LB.

IMO, Mapu is not making the 53 as a safety. SEVEN is more than enough.

The issue when you let a player go out to bid is that many times you don't the bid.

I am sure there's other long snappers coming out this year. They could have gotten another. Like I said, not that big of a deal. If the biggest ***** i have is this one, then this is a great draft.

My best friend has been a life long Noles fan. I texted him that I wanted Farmer before Woodson pick. That said, we do need a pure FS. Maybe, Woodson can develop into that.

I'm cool with the LS. Priority UDFAs often consider their chances of making the roster more than just the bonus $. The patriots have a quality 10-year incumbent, so wouldn't have been the most attractive landing spot. Plus Ashby and Borregales already work out together.
