How did Mallett get on the bus twice??

Hey OP, it sad but I guess it's the Patriots way to be like this around fans. I don't mean to be a jerk or anything but I will share a little story with you to help you feel better about the situation.

Long story, sorry for the FRAT!

I traveled to SF with my young son to watch the Pats play. Since we were going to need a hotel for a night I thought why not find out and stay where the Pats are staying. I called the Pats offices, talked to a lady who was over their travel arrangements and she told me where the Pats were going to be staying, I was kind of shocked she gave the info out. So I called the place and booked a room.

We get there, my son decked out in his Moss jersey and patriots hat. There was security everywhere. Both team security and local law enforcement. A local officer asked to speak to me in private. He noticed my son wearing his Pats gear and told me he wanted to warn me beforehand so my son wouldn't have a bad experience. Apparently the night before a young kid seen and asked Moss for an autograph. Moss shouted at the kid to get away and didn't sign. Really upset the youngster. The officer said the Pats players won't talk or sign anything and if you go up to them then team security will usher you away. I thanked the officer for the heads up, let my son know that we weren't allowed to approach the players or talk to them. My son wanted to just sit in the lobby and watch the players come and go to meetings.

As we sat there it was cool to see all the players. However, the players would not make eye contact with anyone, local officers, hotel employees, or anyone else. Some players had their headphones on so nobody would bother them. They werent acting like this because of a ton of fans being there, as the whole time we were there we were the only fans there.

The couches we were setting in the players had to walk by us to get to the elevators. Nothing! With the exception of Rodney Harrison nobody else said a word or looked in our direction. I thought seriously?? One young Pats fan and they couldnt acknowledge him for a second? Put a pretty bitter taste in my mouth as a Pats fan. I downplayed the whole thing so my son wouldn't get the same feeling I had for his favorite team and players. In the evening we did see Moss walk by us with his hood pulled over his head to hide his face as he walked by. At the stadium Mr Kraft walked around and said hello to the Pats fans and signed autographs. Pretty cool of him to do that at a visitors stadium.

Still it was kind of neat to see all the players but pretty sad how they treated their fans, the whole two of us!!

On a side note, Wes Welker attends a local golf tournament. 3 years ago was the first year he attended. Not many Pats or Welker fans were there so when my son went and asked for his autograph Wes was more then happy to sign. Wes was even kind enough to stand with my son for me to get their picture taken together. My son followed him around for several holes and must have got his autograph on 6 or 7 different items. Hat, football card, etc.. At this years tournament Welker was more in a hurry, there were more Pats and Welker fans but still my son got his Welker jersey signed and another photo taken with him. Wes seems like a good guy.

So that's my Pats player experiences!! While I enjoy to watch them play and continue to support them as a team I will always have this experience stuck in my head.

I guess the players go by a "there's a time and place for fan interaction" philosophy. After all, many of them are generous with their time after practice. I would be surprised if this is not dictated by the coaches.

^^ good write up... yea , I would think pregame it would be harder to get any attention from the players because their many focus would be on the game

You sound like a stalker.

I asked Welker for a reach around after the Jags game, he refused. Straight up rude he is.

You sound like a stalker.

You sound like a person who doesn't have kids, or parents that ever took you to see your favorite players. LMAO!

Time and place.

Playing football isn't 24/7, dudes need time off the same as you and I. Gotta think, few hours in hotel surrounding game is time off.

yea I understand.. most people thinking like I hate Welker, ha.. i said maybe it was just a bad day for him or something personal .. I would of been happy if he just said No thank you no autographs today, and I wouldn't of been mad or even thought what I wrote in the first post. Either way, I plan on going to more Pats games in the future

I don't think you hate Welker. You just seem to have a strong feeling of entitlement. These guys get harassed by "fans" all the time, usually asking for something like an autograph of picture. Half the peeps then sell the autograph on e-bay. I'll bet it gets old after a few years.

Meh. If people wanted to talk to me constantly, I'd ignore them too. Hell, I usually talk to 3-4 people a day and I do my best to avoid it. I really don't think this is abnormal, or any indication of whether anyone is an ******* or not.

As someone who could not care less about getting anyone's autograph I sympathize with the players. You just got off a truly grueling day's work, it's late and maybe you're frustrated looking for someone you've arranged to meet and some fan whom you've never met wants your attention.

The thread topic had one brief trite observation about the game and instead was a whine about autographs.

I here ya... autographs are overrated

The title of this thread should be "my experience trying to get autographs."

It is pretty standard that professional athletes do not sign autographs before and after games. I spent tons of time at baseball games trying to get autographs when I was younger; it was fun to try and always get the best player you could... but I would rarely get autographs at Fenway. Occasionally a really nice guy would sign almost every game, but trust me, you aren't getting Pedro Martinez or Nomar Garciaparra's autograph at Fenway Park. Go down to spring training and it's a completely different story, with every player willing to sign.

Not sure why you need to call a player "rude" because he did not grant your permission. Did you ever stop to think that maybe you are rude for pestering him to sign something, when perhaps he has other things on his mind? I can tell you from experience that VERY FEW players would sign an autograph on their way out of a visiting team's stadium after a game. Although these guys get paid tons of money, they are human. Perhaps he was just in a bad mood, tired, or thinking about other things, but if he wasn't going to sign, why would he acknowledge you? Did I miss the part where he yelled at you or punched you?

I'm sure that if you met Wes Welker under different circumstances, you'd probably have a different opinion of him, and I'm sure that if you were in his shoes, you'd have a different perspective of what happened.

DID YOU EVEN READ THE THREAD??.. it should be called my experience to get an autograph....??? I didn't say I was mad at anyone for NOT SIGNING AND AUTOGAPH... I didn't even try to get an autograph if you read the thread . I was walking to go to my car and I notice the players were coming out to the buses and group of people gathered.. and if you read, other people had the same situation with welker... why dont you pull your head out his ass.. and I never said he was such a bad guy and it could of just been that day... you didn't hear me give **** to meriweather who didn't sign any or take any photo, or McCourty, or BB, or Gronk, Mallet, who also walked right by ... as I said, I was cool with the players saying no thanks no pics or autographs today... what welker did was disrespectful and maybe it was just that day(something else I mentioned)

It's funny how all these stories get out about the players and how they react to fans.

I live in Rochester, NY (about 60 miles east of Buffalo) which is the town the Patriots got stuck at after the Bills game last year (bad weather in Boston). Not sure if any of you remember that.

Anyway, arrangements were last minute and when they got here, about 10-15 of the wide bodies wanted some good food, so they all went to a local rib-joint here in town. Now, were squarely in Bills country here, but word spread that a bunch of Patriots were at this particular place and it started filling up with a bunch of local Pats fans (we have our share here). Word is, it turned into a impromptu PR outing. They had every right to say.... "hey folks, we're eating here... we had a busy day" and let that be that.... That not what was reported though.

By ALL ACCOUNTS, the players were all great..... signed tons of stuff, posed for a million pictures, left great tips. Made a big impression (there were several local news stories). They were pretty gracious the next day as well on their way out of town (at the hotel).

I had gone to the game, so I missed out on the festivities, but like I said... these guys were making the best of a bad situation (they all wanted to go home), but had just stomped a division rival and got the chance to let down their hair. Their was not 1 complaint about them being rude, jerks or otherwise, and you know in a town full of Bills fans...... had there been any, it would have been reported. It was also not all the players either, so perhaps it was just the overly social ones went out..... I don't know.

I guess it's time and place thing.
