Moving a tackle/guard to a TE eligible....something I did not know

This was something CoachN mentioned that I never knew...When a player like Light reports in as a tackle eligible, he can not move the next play back into the line as NOT eligible. He stays in and remains eligible or goes out for a play...so he can come back in. Also, if there was a time out or an end of a Q, he could move back. I did not realize that, so when he was eligible, he'd come out, Vollmer would stay in and the Light would replace him after being out a play. It's really the first time I have heard of that rule, but it makes sense.

I find it interesting they made Light the TE eligible guy, moving him around so much like that. I think it hurt his play at LT.

Why not make Vollmer the TE eligible player?

Yeah and I am pretty sure that those were the only times that Light wasn't on the field too.

yes...and it's odd that one has to go out..to be NOT eligible...but makes sense...if u look at how one could be confused eligible..and then not...lol....I guess they like Light on the outside more than inside..LOL....I never heard this rule though...

Yep, numbers between 1 and 49 and then 80 and 99 are considered "eligible" numbers according to NCAA rules. In the NFL, it is anything between 1 and 49. Anything outside of that must check in with the ref when subbed in by saying something along the lines of "52 eligible, sir". The player is not permitted to become inelligible until they are subbed out.

I think ALL are quite understanding about reporting in as eligible..THAT makes sense...but what I don't believe was wide knowledge was that to become NOT eligibile a player had to be out for a play..or a time out or end of a quarter...THAT last part was not widely known..

Because they moved Light to RTE and Vollmer to LT.

Yeah, it comes from eligibility being predominately about pre-snap motion. Only eligible numbers are allowed to go into motion.

Because they moved Light to RTE and Vollmer to LT.

Most of the time. IIRC, Light was at LTE on the 4th and inches and ended up blocking nobody.

Can someone here tell me if Vollmer has the skill set to take over at LT by the end of this year? I know everyone likes him, but I can't pretend to be any good at analyzing tackle plays unless there is a really obvious result (like giving up a sack)

Not sure to many on here are but I would say the fact that they are willing to voluntarly do it in his first game even just for a play here or there says alot. I doubt they make the switch but I think his being there for a few plays says alot about what they think of him.
