Mood In Houston: Fans Hoping For a Respectable Effort

Ian Logue

Winning in the postseason is never easy no matter who you are and now that the Texans have one win under their belt, fans of the team in Houston are a little bit limited with their optimism considering the next obstacle has the New England Patriots as the

I am sure the Texans will bring a respectable effort, and maybe more. We have to look no further than the Jets in 2010 to see a scenario that was unfathomable (a convincing win by the Jets at Gillette) pre-game, that turned into a nightmare. I know BB and TFB know it, but you cannot overlook any opponent in the NFL. These guys are professionals. They were embarrassed by a shut-out loss to our 3rd string QB in week 3. They would like nothing more than to return the favor to the Kings of the Hill, in their house, on prime time TV in the playoffs. In week 3 Watt was playing, but he was a shell of himself. Just like our O has managed, with a little time, to adjust for the loss of Gronk, their D appears to have done so with the loss of Watt.

I hope and expect our guys to come out firing on all cylinders and treating the Texans with the utmost respect, as an opponent. Go Pats! Can't wait for Saturday night!

LOL......the Texans......on the road.....

the 2010 Jets have nothing to do with this, and as fans, our mindset is irrelevant for the team to be successful

anything short of annihilation is only because of the pats underperforming.....and if this team does not do their version of Sherman's march to the sea, then they have no heart and the memory of Brady's suspension no longer has any meaning

kill them all

The Jets are not really an equivalent scenario. In 2010, the Jets were considered a legit threat to win the AFC. They won 11 games. Sanchez appeared to be on the rise and won a couple of games with late game drives.

The Patriots did not come to play that day and that was an enormous upset/fluke. Yeah they Jets made it to the AFCCG the year before (played Colts last week of season to get into playoffs, Colts played 3rd string, beat the Cincinnati Bun-holes in the first round...snore/yawn, and then the SD Choakers handed them the game when SD could have ran the clock out and won if their coach was not named Norv Turner). first teen the AFCCG the Colts played the starters smoked the Jets. Next season they stumbled into the playoffs (Pats beat them 45 -6, or something like that a couple of weeks earlier in December). And then that dreaded game in the divisional when the Pats did not show up because in their minds it was an easy victory (kinda like this week).

I'm not worried because of the way they've played against the Ravens, Broncos and the Dolphins. The Pats were the ones bringing the attitude and the hard hitting.

I guess my question would b
"What final score represents a "respectable effort"?

Beat the spread would be my guess. Lose by less than 18.

Same thing for every team even the pats. I can deal with sometimes it's not your day, sometimes the other team is better then you. All I want to see every sunday is solid effort, hustle, group tackling, and no stupid mistakes that gives the other team free points. If there is a perfect throw and catch I tip my hat to the other team I don't give Butler **** if he was in position looking for the ball but it was put in the perfect spot so he gave up a catch. If a defender guesses right, knives thru the line, and nails Blount in the backfield I don't get mad at Blount for not making something out of nothing, the other guys gets paid too. I just can't be watching the same thing happening all game because now it is no longer a respectable effort. Bad plays happen, bad series even, I just can't stand bad games because that says to me either the players or coaches just didn't care or just couldn't stand it.

You must be remembering a different game than I am. Nate Kaeding missed 3 field goals.

It wasn't a clock run out as I thought, but just as dumb. The Chokers scored with 2 minutes and 14 seconds left in the game to pull them within 3 points. Chokers had 3 timeouts and the 2 minute warning. Norv Turner decides to gamble the whole game on an on side kick. The Rats recover. The Rats are stopped a yard short on 3rd down. Had Tina....ummm Norv kicked the ball deep, the Jets punt with lots of time left. Instead, since they are already in Choker territory (due to Tina electing the onside kick???). It was an easy call for the Jets to go for it on 4th and a foot. A typical SD Choker decision gave a hot Rivers no chance and handed the Rats the game. Yes, the missed field goals by San Diego Choker Nate Kaeding didn't help.

Also looked it up. Week 16 the Rats played the Colts. The Colts were 14-0 but Peyton was banged up. The Colts wisely (I cannot believe I am saying that) did not try to accomplish what the Pats couldn't do 2 seasons earlier. They rested Peyton and other key starters and lost their last 2 games. It was week 17 they played the Bunholes. The Bunholes had the division wrapped up and played to stay healthy. They then played the Bunholes again in the first round and the Bunholes were the Bunholes again in the playoffs and didn't look any different then they did the week before. Round 2 the Chokers (above), round 3 AFC championship they got smoked by the Colts. The same Colts that let the Rats back into the playoffs a couple of weeks earlier.
