My point is wait a few weeks. You suggest that Jacksonville has a weak offense and that may be true and it may not be true.

It doesn't change the reality of the following equation.

Big slow DL + Big slow LB + Aging past their prime safeties = What you saw vs. Jax.

Are you suggesting NE is going to allow 30 ppg this season?

No, but I am suggesting that this defense is bereft of talent outside of Flowers and Gilmore. The rest of this defense is slow, old or slow and old.

I agree it isn't as good as we could hope for, but if Jax is bad and NE's problems are entirely attributable to a talent deficiency, then why should we expect things to go better against other teams?

That narrative has been around for at least 10 years. What is your prediction for our final record?

We shouldn't.

I'm not ignoring our team's short comings.
Is it possible that Bortles has improved a lot? No?

We are probably going to win the AFC or come very close and have all the draft ammo and a risk-reward balanced future till TB retires. Bears invested two first rounds and $ 23.5 M per yr avg in one D-lineman and are one injury away from being a total disaster for a long long time.
I am fine with our plan; it is sound. NFL is not NBA which two all stars and two stars can guarantee a Championship run.

Defense doesn't matter? The Pats just gave up 31 points to a JAG QB, backup RB and a far below avg WR core.

I truly think people are underestimating how bad the Jags offense is, and they just made the Pats D look horrible.
Thank you for backing up my point. Defense matters so much that Blake Bortles can roll out of bed and throw for almost 400 yards and 4 TDs with backup skill position players against an “improved” patriots defense.....

I think you could add either Mack or Donald to this defense and they would still get torched in big games regardless of the offensive talent they’re facing. Welcome to the NFL in 2018. One elite individual talent on an otherwise bad defense doesnt make a difference, if you need further proof just look at how historically bad the raiders were on D last year WITH Mack.

Just in case the point wasn’t bought about Wilson being a total garbage time QB. In his last 18 starts, he has 17 TD passes in quarters 1-3 and 22 TD passes in quarter 4. That isn’t clutch, it’s playing yourself into huge deficits by sucking and then racking up stats against a prevent defense that no longer cares. His average game is basically Brady’s stat line against Jacksonville: near shutout in the first half, a couple of gimme TDs to fill out his stat line at the end. That game was an anomaly for Brady, whose TD passes are typically lower at the end of the game since he’s already built a big lead. That’s the norm for Wilson.
