If he is such a bad fit, then why are there two on the roster? I don't think those guys played OLB at UM. All BG has to prove is that he can play standing up. That's not going to happen until after he's drafted anyway. Are you telling me if Dwight Freeney was on this roster we would have to run a Tampa 2 to get the most out of him. Hell NO!

I find it hilarious that you raise Dwight Freeney because he is one of the most overrated, one-dimensional players in the entire NFL. All he can do is rush the passer. He couldn't set the edge to save his life. Teams run straight at him at will.

The only times he becomes useful is on obvious passing downs when he can pin his ears back and go after the QB. Granted I don't want to face Freeney on obvious passing downs, he's dangerous then. But the 4-3 system makes him. There's no way he gets as fast of a rush when standing up in a 3-4. And I would very much doubt his ability to play in space and flip his hips to cover anybody.

Freeney is built for the Tampa 2, 4-3 end position. The Colts fast swarming system optimizes his talents. He wouldn't stand a prayer in the Pats 3-4 two gap where linebackers must play with DISCIPLINE and be able to play a multitude of roles - set the edge, stop the run, drop back and cover, along with also rushing the passer when the play calls for it.

Hypothetically speaking, if Freeney were on the Pats roster he would be a 'more talented TBC'. Basically we'd use him in 4 man front rush and 3-4 rush packages and keep him off the field when we anticipated the run. He's not a 3 down player in the Pats 3-4 two gap system.

I am not looking to argue for Dwight Freeney, he's just an example. Graham is much better against the run than Freeney was coming out of college. The point is that Freeney would be a valuable asset for this defense he is not a one trick pony. When he is on the field everyone else is better. It's not the scheme. We run a ton of Cover 2 , not as much Tampa 2 but we still run it. If you think we are pigeon holed into our straight 2 gappin front your sadly mistaken. As a matter of fact we have been running more of a Hybrid style D for about 3 tears now. A player like Graham could accel in our system. A system that as of recently has had 2 DL playing in sub packages. I think we are further away from our old 2 gappin ways than you think we are. What we need now is playmakers, He is a playmaker. Just like Dwight Freeney.

Cool, the Skins get another bust of a WR.

Thoughts on Benn?

Sorry gents I had to PM my pick in this morning as I knew I would have a hard time to get around a computer today.

Benn I think will be a great WR in the NFL and to go along with the QB and my first round pick. He is raw but with great size 6'2 220lbs and is not afraid of contact. To tell you the truth if the guy is sitting there in the second round for us I would hope BB pulls the trigger on this kid.

Other consideration were

Pouncey but he was taken right before my pick
Rodger Safford OT who could play both LT and RT which is a huge need.
Nate Allen a underrated safety that will be a great player in the NFL

Glad you took Benn, cos the Raiders needed Saffold. *shrug* You WILL need to look to upgrade that OL eventually though or your newly drafted QB is going to get pulverized into a useless shell like David Carr did with the Texans.

Just the explanation for Veldheer...a future OT is the Colts biggest need and Veldheer is a sensational talent. With my staff and history of developing talent, I feel comfortable grabbing this specimen here and letting him fester.

Pick made.

There was no way I could pass on him at that point.

I have seen McCourty and Jackson ranked in similar positions. Why did you pick McCourty over Jackson. Just out of curiosity?

I think Jackson is an early second round pick at best. I see McCourty worthy of a late-middle first round selection at best. Jackson is talented, but still a touch raw. McCourty for me, is hugely consistent, has excellent physical and mental attributes, and can contribute from week 1. He's a first round pick in my eyes.

Had it not been McCourty, I'd have gone in another direction, although Jackson would have been a consideration at #53 had he still been there and I not picked McCourty.

Special Teams is a major difference I believe.

Although I may not have been a fan of your 1st round pick, you got fantastic value with the McCourty pick in round 2. Kudos.

I tried to talk myself out of it, but there was no way I could leave him on the board with the Broncos and Giants (both need CB help) between my picks.

Bodden, Butler and McCourty - what a trio that would be.

Chaps, I know I'm up after TripleChamp, but I'm off out for a few hours shortly, and I'll be back at about 9:30PM UK time, so 4:30PM your time (unless your clocks still haven't gone forward an hour).

your deadline for #47 is 10pm which is approximately 8 hours and 35 minutes from the time of this post.

Gm's I don't have a PM from Triplechamp so I believe its time to vote on the Giants pick. We need to get back on track for the Patriots next pick.

He's been online recently.

Thanks I'm looking forward to the Patriots next pick.

Me too. So far so good BritPat. If it went done like this so far,I'd be pleased. I'd be saying "Graham and Banta-Cain, and a really good, DEEP secondary)." Can't wait to see your next picks.

OT: Who's the biggest faller so far? Jahvid Best is the #2 back and he's still up.

You're forgetting Ryan Mathews

He got picked by Houston at #20. If that wink was indicating something, you got time to rethink your pick.

I know he went at #20, that's why I said you'd forgotten about him when you called Best the #2 RB
