Mike Wright is changing the defense

What we did against the dirty Falcons is the same as what we will do against dirty Denver.

The D Linemen actually step back a half yard or so from the LOS before each play. Why? So that they cannot be cut block from the first moment.

It throws off the scheme of the O-Line if they need to sort of step forward before attempting a cut, especially on those plays when every O-Lineman cuts to the same side, i.e. instead of taking the guy in front of them, they each attempt to cut the guy to their left or right. In other words, a O-line shift to one side with zone blocking. This play can take a defense by surprise with good cut blocking, but the Pats appear to be countering this by having the D-Line start a step back from the LOS. It basically allows the D-Line to see the blocking scheme develop a split second ahead of time, so that the cut blocks can be better avoided. Especially the surprise cut blocks to one side when the O-Line attempts to overload one side or the other.
