I'm sorry but he needs to have what's left of that brain examined, he basically said, "TO drops too many passes to be an elite receiver. Look at the bills game, he dropped crucial passes that almost cost his team. In his career, TO has dropped critical passes, he has never come up big in big games." LoL Hoge is an idiot, even people who hate TO and says "he drops too many balls" still know he's a great player, you don't catch a 100 tds passes with "horrible hands." He hates T.O. notice how on NFL live he didn't say anything about Romo's horrible performance, all the analysts pretty much blamed him. Apparently he hasn't seen this. This clip let's you know what TO is all bout. Click link and press play. http://www.nfluk.com/features-nflicons-video.php?IconId=5
He's a great player regardless if people hate him.

Hoge is an idiot for sure, but he is pretty close to spot on in this case:
1) TO does drop more passes than the other receivers that are considered elite.
2) TO didn't catch the two passes in question in the Bills game...either of which should have ended the 'pokes chances at a victory.
3) TO does get the dropsies at key points in a game, particularly 3rd downs.
4) "Never comes up big in big games" is a stretch. "Rarely comes up big in clutch situations" is how I would have phrased it. Outside of the Steve Young pass vs. Green Bay, can't say that TO has been a guy you would go to with the game on the line.

No sane person would say TO isn't a great receiver. He does pile up the stats. However, please don't paint him as a clutch player by any stretch. When his team needs a big play to win a game, you can almost hear his sphincter tightening. He is the ARod of the NFL. Not a bad gig if you can get it, but he is what he is.

I think TO's best days are over but he is still dangeous when he is at his best.

Ask the Patriots secondary who was frantic in SB 39 trying to catch up to him...and that was with an injury and him not being 100%

you cannot accuse TO of disapearing in big games. His performance in Super Bowl 39 was fantastic, and would have been considered heroic had the Eagles won the game.

Yeah, we would have won that game if it hadn't of been for TO. He sure came up big that game. Those 3 TDs killed us.

true, Hoge is a moron.

i dont like to but he's wrong. "rarely comes up in big games" is better.

I don't even know if that's true though.
He drops balls equally in big and small games.

The Eagles didn't beat us because DONOVAN McDud didn't give him the ball more and was primarily the weakness on that Eagles team late in that game...besides the horrid clock management of course

I'm assuming you watched the game, but here is a refresher:

1-10-PHI 39 (14:56) (Shotgun) D.McNabb pass incomplete to T.Owens.
2-10-PHI 39 (14:48) D.McNabb pass to T.Owens pushed ob at PHI 46 for 7 yards (R.Gay).
2-12-PHI 5 (10:52) D.McNabb pass to T.Owens pushed ob at PHI 14 for 9 yards (R.Harrison).
3-7-NE 47 (4:27) (Shotgun) D.McNabb pass to T.Owens pushed ob at NE 17 for 30 yards (R.Harrison). Ball caught on NE45.
2-24-NE 24 (3:30) D.McNabb pass intended for T.Owens INTERCEPTED by A.Samuel (R.Harrison) at NE -3. A.Samuel to NE 29 for 32 yards (J.Runyan).
1-10-PHI 35 (10:59) D.McNabb pass to T.Owens to PHI 45 for 10 yards (R.Gay).
1-10-PHI 41 (7:26) D.McNabb pass to T.Owens pushed ob at PHI 49 for 8 yards (A.Samuel).
1-10-NE 32 (6:12) D.McNabb pass to T.Owens to NE 25 for 7 yards (R.Harrison).
1-10-NE 21 (4:59) D.McNabb pass incomplete to T.Owens (R.Seymour).
2-8-PHI 28 (7:59) D.McNabb pass to T.Owens pushed ob at NE 36 for 36 yards (D.Reid).
3-2-PHI 29 (4:52) D.McNabb pass to T.Owens to PHI 34 for 5 yards (T.Johnson).
3-8-PHI 36 (3:42) D.McNabb pass to T.Owens to PHI 46 for 10 yards (A.Samuel).
1-10-PHI 46 (3:36) D.McNabb pass incomplete to T.Owens.
1-10-NE 30 (2:00) D.McNabb pass incomplete to T.Owens (R.Seymour).
2-9-PHI 5 22) D.McNabb pass incomplete to T.Owens.

"frantic in SB 39 trying to catch up to him" is kind of a stretch. He ran short crossing routes the entire game. He only had 2 gains of >10 yards...and one of those was on a blatent pick play on (you guessed it) a short crossing route.

He showed up, played hurt and accumulated stats. Seriously, good for him. I'm not sure how you can look at that performance and say he came up big. Big stats? 9/120 is pretty solid. Big impact? Maybe, but I don't see many game-changing plays. Clutch? Please.

Not saying he isn't a great receiver. Not saying he didn't play hurt in the Super Bowl. Just keep it real.

Most overrated receiver ...... Plaxico Burress on the Pittsburgh Steekers

I'm not saying I'm crazy about him but Burress is in his third year with the Giants and is probably a top ten reciever in terms of talent.

Outside of the Steve Young pass vs. Green Bay, can't say that TO has been a guy you would go to with the game on the line...

And in that game (the '98 WC, I assume), TO must have dropped a half dozen balls before he caught the TD pass at the end. If San Fran had lost - and they should have lost, because of Rice's fumble that wasn't ruled a fumble - TO would have worn the goat's horns throughout the off-season. Who knows what effect that loss would have had on his psyche, and his entire career, going forward.

I guess you failed to see the humor in my statement.

If I was picking top flight receivers I'd want on my team at this point in time (2007), I'd probably name 12-13 (minimum) before I got to TO (and this is based purely on production, not the fact that he is a first rate a-hole).
