Merged: How Moss trade effects offensive scheme

Re: what every coach in the NFL is now thinking....

Jets rarely doubled him, especially when Revis covers him, so the biggest nemisis in our division isn't really impacted and isn't the first goal every year to win the division?
It's been conclusively proven that's a lie. There's video footage of the Jets repeatedly sending over the top safety help for Revis.

Re: what every coach in the NFL is now thinking....

Next teams will do this

Single our outside guys. bring both safeties in and play them 1 shallow and 1 high in the middle to shutdown TE and Slot receivers. Also these safeties will provide run support.

Re: what every coach in the NFL is now thinking....

moss has 9 catches so far this year. i fully understand the value of drawing coverage, but for $9mill a year? thats a high price for a decoy.

i know, thats just my positive spin. i'm not happy.

Re: what every coach in the NFL is now thinking....

I think what every DC is now thinking is "bonus .... they couldn't adjust their gameplan with Moss around now it'll be like taking candy from a baby without him"

Re: what every coach in the NFL is now thinking....

Coaches in Minn division are now game planning.. Personally I think its a bad move for both teams. Minn yes needs a quick fix but they have thier reciever of the future in Rice and I dont know how much they paid for Moss and whether or not how effective he will be for them right away?? Though I expect a big first game from him.

What do the pats do now. Well we will just have to wait and see. A big rematch is coming with Balt in a few weeks. And the Offense has plenty of time to put a game plan together.

It hurts losing him. But of lately I have been worried about his outbursts and wondering whats going on behind the scenes. At the end of the day the pats had plenty of success before Moss with Brady at the helm so I dont see why we still cant have huge success..

If you think Bill O Brian had problems before...

Wait until he has to game plan without Moss in his packages. People will be screaming for his head by mid season.

We now run a base 2 TE set with 2 WR (Tate, Welker) and a RB, or empty backfield with 2 TEs and 3 WRs (Tate, Welker, Edelman).

Gronkowski and Hernandez need to pick up the slack, with Law Firm, Woodhead, Edelman.

Basically we use time of posession to keep our young D off the field.

The New Look Patriots Receiving Corps

Welker
Tate
Edelman
Slater
Price

I think we are going to see alot more of the old school Charlie Weiss offense moving forward. Welker is going to see alot more #1 corners but I think his production will continue to be stellar. Tate is going to step up and I think he will be a dynamic reciever. He will probably need to stretch the field on offense a little more than he has. Edelman, Price and Slater are going to have to fill in and stay healthy.

The tight ends now play a huge roll in our offense. Hernandez is already a beast and will probably get alot more balls.

Good thing our run game has showed some life cause we are going to need it.

Re: The New Look Patriots Receiving Corps

TE's and Woodhead will need to continue stepping up. Also we must be persistent with the run game we have recently established.

This set [right now] is worse than what we had last year at WR. Time will tell on Tate/Price though.

Just like how we had no chance in SB XXXVI!

The Patriots have been using a LOT of 2 and 3 TE packages this year. And rightly so - the TEs have been great. I expect the # of snaps for Hernandez and Gronk to go up. So there's really no need for a lot of 3 WR sets. Tate and Welker are your starters. Edelman is the #3 guy when necessary. Price will give us what he can when he can. If nothing else, he is a good blocker on runs, screens, etc.

Based on Reiss' stats, we've only used 3 or 4 WR packages on about 35% of the snaps this year. I expect that number to go down a little.

Miami - 19 out of 58
Buffalo - 27 our of 68
Jets - 21 out of 61
Cincy - 23 of 62

Reche Caldwell and Gabriel are avail?

guess we shoulda kept gaffney, for last year and this year both

The other funny side effect is now that there is no Moss it will be even easier for the Jets secondary to shut down the Pats passing attack. Yeah I'm in stitches over here.

Here come Brandon Tate and Edelman. Defense are really worried now..

Relax. Well just run Woodhead and Green-Ellis.

Hold on I'm feeling sick ....

The Pressure is off Brady now

Yes, every word out of Brady's mouth is pro-Pats, pro-Krafts, pro-teammates, pro-team. He embodies every aspect of this organization...and since the new contract....he is carrying the kool-aid like never before. But if you closely examine his relationship with Moss, it has been very clear that Brady has paid special attention to Moss the player, Moss the ego, Moss the vulnerable.
I strongly believe that Moss is very aware his place in NFL history today....and where he wants to be on the totem pole when his career is over. And I believe that Brady felt an enormous responsibity to maintain Moss' numbers....and who can argue with the results. But with this responsibity, one could argue that achieving Moss' numbers has been detrimental to the team at times. Was it a big deal for Brady to be emotional advisor on the sidelines last year during the few games where Moss' output was marginal? Was it in the best interests of the team when Brady was forcing throws to Moss vs the Jets this year, in order to prove that Revis can't contain the future Hall of Famer?
We have all seen Brady's recent 4th quarter numbers....not good. We have all watched Brady have those ugly moments, firing into triple coverage, usually in Moss' direction. Head scratchers?
Now as the dust settles after this trade, Brady has been relieved of the one burden on his shoulders that has gone against the Patriots Way....padding stats. From here on out, Brady will will be firing the ball to a bunch of minimum wage freshman and sophmores, and Wes Welker, who exemplifies hustle and hard work. Back to the days of 7 players making catches, spreading it around to the open guy. I for one loved the Pats no huddle vs Miami. Brady taking charge using all his options. Reminded me of the Weiss offense....keep 'em off balance and their heads on a swivel. Let Brady be Brady again.

Taylor Price, come on down!

Troy Brown and Mike Lombardi both made statements that the Pats offense will be better without Moss.

Both made similar points and here they are:

- Moss only runs 3 routes which have a positive affect for the offense but limits how dynamic they can be.
- They need to find ways to get Tate the ball more he is an impact player
- Tate will run routes/plays that Moss can't Bubble screens, slants, digs etc...
- Moss was coming off the field in most blocking situations, i.e. screens, runs etc... and that defenses would quickly key on this.
- And that Moss wanted out and was pushing every button he could with BB to force his way out and that in fact Moss did fly home with the Pats and was openly complaining about the fact he didn't have any catches in the game (this came from Troy).

That is it in a nutshell. Remember don't shoot the messanger. My take for a 4th round pick we got the greatest single season by a WR, and two more very good years out him and then turned it into a 3rd.

see , i can buy those arguments if our coaching staff eas experienced. everyone is comparing this to 2006 or 2003/2004. They had Jmcd or weis or romeo then along with other experience asst coaches. now the staff itself is raw.
