"Mentor" Dungy at it again

I suggest that you avoid attending Patriots practise sessions close up. BB and TFB are major offenders. Thank God Weis is no longer here. One session last week Brady let loose a F-bomb heard clearly by the entire bleacher audience.

I witnessed one a couple of years back....

"It was a f****** hold!"

Followed by Ellis Hobbs chiming in with; "see, even Tom Brady cusses too!"

Great stuff.

But we're not talking about corrupting young minds. We're talking about corrupting the image of the NFL. Whatever "a lot worse" is out there, it doesn't have an official league seal on it. It doesn't run on NFL.com like Hard Knocks. For better or worse, the show is helping make Rex Ryan the face of the league. (Personal tastes aside, I rather expect it's for the better.)

Ahh, ok, I was just addressing the 10pm, premium cable argument. If the issue is corrupting the image at large, then I think we just fundamentally disagree on what it would take to do that. Between the impending lockout, recent concussion research that many-to-most players are essentially crippled in their short careers, players routinely getting arrested, and the pure violence that's essential to the game, I don't see how a coach swearing a couple of times when addressing his team is even on the radar. Was there anyone out there who didn't think that that stuff happened?

To be totally honest, I found it refreshing. We all know that coaches talk like that, it's not exactly a secret. I'll agree that Ryan didn't do himself any favors, since he came off sounding an awful lot like a trumped up buffoon, but that's the entire point of the documentary: it gave us a behind the scenes look that confirms a lot of what we already know and also sheds new light on some stuff (like how they're handling the Revis holdout in-house). Everyone's talking about whether or not this is what the NFL wants, but it's exactly what the NFL signed up for when it okayed HBO doing training camp documentaries. And, going back to what I said up top, the league just has much, much bigger fish to fry.

Lets just be thankful Dungy didn't tune into HBO long enough to catch "Cathouse" or "G String Divas."

'Zactly. And the fact he gave it to HBO which doesn't censor anything speaks to the fact he probably expected some activity which might not fly on CBS for example. Rogah would have to censor all TC swearing during filming, which whould go over really well I'm sure, or he could nix HBO completely and hand the whole thing over to one of the networks like CBS which would bleep everything out. HBO's not going to bleep anything and the NFL knows it. Would Rogah nix Rex? Doubtful.

If the motive was to encourage family-style viewing and present a wholesome picture, the NFL might have been better served airing it on CBS but they didn't.

Anyway, Dungy's suggestion is just typical Dungy.

Actually, I don't think we disagree at all! Read my post again...I actually said that, much as it turns my PatsFan stomach, having Ryan as the face of the NFL is good for the league.

If anybody is still interested in the topic, WEEI's Kirk Minihane let his opinion be known in this column:

patriots - Dungy picking the wrong fight - WEEI | Kirk Minihane

Basic summary: Dungy is off-base for backing Vick but criticizing Ryan. Also Dungy is a hypocrite for not previously criticizing HBO, FOX, or NBC for hat they air but now criticizing this show. And Roger Goodell has 33 reasons to not care about this - 33 being the number of players that have been arrested this year.

The talk about Ryan's mother was discussed on Mike and Mike on ESPN(neither of which were on thankfully) and Chris Carter, who played under Rex's father and knows Mrs. Ryan told of her in glowing words.

The woman has gone against her husband and told him flat out that he is going to make a mistaken when cutting so and so(Carter being one) and is known for keeping things clean opposed to her husband and sons' language. For her to call him out on his langauge is nothing new- she has been that way for years and people being shocked that his mother would be say that about his language is surprising.

...I actually said that, much as it turns my PatsFan stomach, having Ryan as the face of the NFL is good for the league.

I respectfully - but strongly - disagree.
Tubby Wrecks isn't good for anything decent, anywhere, at any time.

LOL! Saint Dungy's making house calls now? And is Rexie on the road to recovery?
Ryan didn't curse nearly as much during the second episode of the miniseries as he did during the debut.

Mangini:
Meanwhile, Browns coach Eric Mangini said he wouldn't judge another coach for his language.

"I don’t always have the best language and I’ve been around some guys that don’t have the best language and I’m not saying that’s right or wrong," Mangini said. "My mom would probably call me too, if she heard some of the things that were said. I don’t know. I don’t think I’m in a position to judge anybody else’s language.”'

Personally, I've found that people who swear constantly are simply not intelligent enough to use other words. Rex Ryan has not shown me any evidence that disproves this assertion so far.

Thats about the stupidest thing I've ever read without a spelling error.

If you want you're kids (or Dungy's) to be safe when watching a behind the scenes look at the NFL, watch some show like Under the Helmet or whatever.
It's not like Dungy has any idea about what's safe for his kids.

Swearing is a good way to release anger and stress, not to mention the fact that it's just downright fun to sometimes have a foul mouth. I work in a kitchen and everything is about sex and profanity. On the flip side, there are plenty of occasions to more creative with word choices, but nothing feels quite like ripping off a big "Moth$r F*cker" when you get angry. Taking a deep breath and collecting yourself might be the better thing to do, but it certainly isn't the fun thing to do.

Tony Dungy's people have just contacted God's people.

Dungy wants a sit down with God to discuss how God could have allowed this whole BP thing to happen on the heals of Katrina.

God's people are taking the request under advisement but have already hinted at a willingness to listen.

After all, there is only one Dungy.
