McDaniels Must Trust Patriots Running Game For Success Down the Stretch

Steve Balestrieri

With the winter weather beginning to creep back in, the time is coming when the passing offenses begin to slow down and an effective running game becomes essential.

Tre Williams and James White needs to tire out the defense while Blount bulls them over.

Blount actually had two good runs when he cut it outside. If he can think on his feet more then we can have some success because usually he just runs into his own linemen's back. The really only good thing we do is having white and bolden catch it otherwise our backs can't escape anyone and trip over blades of grass.

Trust what running game more? As the above poster mentions, Blount usually runs into the
back of his blockers for a one yard gain. Deon Lewis was fast enough to get thru a small opening
quickly and make a defender or two miss for a decent gain. In time, Trey Williams might be worth
a try.
Unfortunately, the Patriots have to stick with a passing game utilizing receivers who cannot get open,
run pass patterns correctly, or make routine catches much less the tough ones. To boot, the offensive
line is an ever changing sieve. Thank god, we have Tom Brady!

Sorry didn't read the piece to me it the hurry up O. Brady thrives in the hurry up and he gets the ball out of his hands quick.

Lets hope Tre Williams picks up the Offense this week we'll take what we can get. I don't expect anything from Blount against a stout Defense. We need a guy who can get three yards quickly so we can stay out of consistent third and longs.

Its not just Blount. The Pats' oline is not a powerful group that'll blow teams off the ball. They are technicians and rely on leverage. Against a large, strong run D they really can't get a strong push. Thats why counter plays (which Blount had a couple of) and guys that make people miss (see Lewis) are most effective in this offense.

We need to run smarter and more often. Blount was like 10-43 when we basically stopped running. Im tired of how little we run. Esp with Edelman out since alot of his catches are like long handoffs. Whats wrong with 3rd and 4?

This x100.

Yes, they have the best QB ever, but they need to run more to reduce hits and wear & tear on Brady. Even if statistically its less efficient, they can't keep getting into 3&10 or worse with Brady getting smashed. Kind of disappointing to see zero scheme or game plan adjustments once we got all these injuries. Brady should not be throwing 35+ a game week in and week out at age 38. It's just common sense.
