McDaniels back in the running for the Browns' HC job?

Confirmed: #Browns and #Patriots OC Josh McDaniels had more conversations this week. Possibly back in mix.

We've already heard just about everything that could possibly come out of the Browns' HC search, so this shouldn't be terribly surprising. He supposedly pulled his name out when he learned he wasn't the #1 choice, so it makes sense that he'd be interested again if he now is.


But my biggest question: Would he want to take any current Pats coaches with him? If he leaves, that already three offensive coaches gone, and if anybody goes with him, that'd be more. My best guess is that Daboll would be the replacement OC, but O'Shea could follow McDaniels for an OC job of his own, for example.

Mike Pettine is the clear favorite for the #Browns job heading into tomorrow. Josh McDaniels is not back in the mix.

So based on Rapoport's accuracy with the Pats this season, it sounds like McDaniels to Cleveland is a done deal!

This. I can't see him leaving New England for another year, at least, especially when he'd be going to a snake pit like the Browns. He'd be unable to trust anyone in the front office, based upon the past year's actions, and he'd be stuck with a mediocre team not likely to get better soon.

He's in a good position now, and would be better off waiting for something else to come along.

Here's the big deal, though: If he takes the job, and it doesn't pan out, he's toast for any future Head Coaching jobs. Oh sure, he'll get an interview here and there, but it's unlikely he'd get a serious offer again. The Browns would be able (and wouldn't hesitate) to lay any problems squarely on him too, in order to deflect attention from thre owner's and GM's own ineptitude.

Of course, it's possible that he might take the job, but man....... with so many years ahead of him, he ought to be concerned about his future opportunities which, rightly or wrongly, will be associated with his win/loss record with whatever teams he has worked with.

IMHO, Josh should wait. The Cleveland job is a really bad one. One must be careful when one chooses. In the NFL, you don't get to fail more than a couple of times.

Not sure I see this at all, McDaniels did poorly in Denver and seems like a very intelligent man, so I suspect that before he jumps back into the fire, he will choose the right fire...

Hopefully, after reviewing the AFCC film BB told McDaniels its time to find another employer.

Given Brady's impatience with young WR's and his inability/lack of desire to work with them and develop/elevate their game and given the troubling trend with Brady that his favorite receiver is no longer the open receiver (his excessive targeting of Edelman is just the latest example - first Moss then Welker now Jules) if anything this team needs a Charlie Weis type aka a strong personality as OC. Loved seeing Billy OB get in Brady's face when he was mouthing off to a young WR. THAT is what is needed.
Brady's unchecked ego, which has lead to some bad habits, really shows up in the playoffs when the Patriots play good teams in pressure games.

Look no further than that ridiculous throw to a covered MATTHEW SLATER in the Broncos game. It's the 1st qtr, it's 3rd and 3, the Patriots need to hang onto the ball and try to establish their offense, need to quiet the Broncos crowd and kill the emotional mojo for the Broncos by keeping Manning off the field and Brady throws to a covered special teams player as Danny Amendola sits WIDE OPEN in the middle of the field for a 1st down.
