McCourty to play CB in SB???

DMC on fast sideline receivers? Yeah, that really worked out well in the past + perfect moment to reanimate the concept.

I dont buy it. McCourty's advantage is his ability to see the field-qb and react with his intelligence (quickly) and his speed (fast). Locking him up with a wr at the LOS with the CB playing off and taking over the route wastes two guys talents. I could consider doing that with another S, but NOT McCourty.

None of our safeties is fast enough to track ATL receivers all over the field.

Brady at Fullback? He has shown great lead blocking skills.

No way. McCourty is going to spend the game hammering receivers. One of them is going to cough it up.

I would think this would be an idea that Belichick may deploy on the first defensive series of the game to show Atlanta something different and make them adjust to it before scrapping it. Belichick has been known to do that. In general, I am not a fan, though. McCourty is a MUCH better safety than a CB.

I smell a decoy. Why change what isn't broke. I haven't been the biggest McCourty fan over the years, but he is winning me over. Especially since you want to avoid the big play by Atlanta. DMC being in his comfort position helps that.

Rowe and DMC/safety help on Jones. Butler on Sanu. Ryan on #3 wr. Switch Ryan and Rowe if Rowe cant handle Jones. I think he can with safety help. 4 guys to shut down Atl WRs.

Disinformation to freak out Atlanter coaching staff and make them panic at anything unexpected in the big game

First off it's from Jason Cole so that should give you pause.

But he starts with "some experienced analysts believe". That should end it right there. He has no inside info and this is the typical throw **** at the wall and hope it sticks kind of stuff. If it doesn't happen no one will remember he said it or bother to call him out on and if it somehow does happen he'll go on twitter and toot his own horn.

Not going to happen, at least not full time.. I'm sure there are some packages/situations where McCourty would be in man coverage on a receiver, possibly even up at the LOS.. its happened in previous games sparingly... but beyond that, there is no way that they take McCourty out of his starting defensive captain, Pro Bowl, All-Pro alternate role of Free Safety

I should get a wordpress site up and just post random articles during SB week to drive traffic and scoop up some ad revenue lol

Smells of smokescreen to get the Falcons overthinking, i would be stunned if they took one of the best safeties in the game out of his best position.

The reason he moved from corner in the first place is because he was an average corner is a much better safety.

He put Rodney Harrison at cornerback vs. the Colts in 2004, flipping Law and Harrison back and forth:

link: http://www.nytimes.com/2004/01/19/s...-secondary-shut-down-colts-best-receiver.html

Ty Law and Rodney Harrison were experimenting in practice early last week. They tried a role reversal. Law moved from his usual position of cornerback to safety. Harrison moved from his normal spot at safety to cornerback. They kept flip-flopping, playing frisky Patriot games.

Their coach, Bill Belichick, told them, ''That looks interesting.'' Law and Harrison said they wanted to try it in the American Football Conference championship game, particularly against Indianapolis receiver Marvin Harrison. Belichick said fine -- as long as it worked...

The result of Law and Rodney Harrison versus Marvin Harrison was staggering. Marvin Harrison made one catch for 6 yards in the first half and finished with only 3 catches for 19 yards. New England won, 24-14, and earned a trip to the Super Bowl in part because it took what might be the most critical element of the Colts' offense -- Marvin Harrison's stupefying, back-breaking catches -- and erased it from the game.

^^^ That being said, moving McCourty doesn't make much sense. Rodney was so much more physical than Law, he could destroy Harrison coming off the line then turn him over to Law earlier. I don't view McCourty as a whole lot more physical than Rowe or Ryan. the analogy would be more like Chung flopping with a DB, but Chung doesn't have Rodney H's skills, no offense to Patrick.

I could see them making a shift if they went with 7DBs. At that point, you'd be asking whether S4 was better than CB4, and using McCourty as the flex guy.

Its just smoke.. Prob put out by the team itself.

This is typical bleacher report. They made this up and people think it's real.
