I think this is probably true but is also the core problem with Mayo. I am willing to be he was told this, but then reacted to it by basically just ****ing around all year and not taking the job seriously, and saying "well I'll give effort next year, this year is just about 'learning' and 'feelings' and 'gettin my feet wet'. Don't have to actually try that hard." Which is the same reason he was unprepared in the first place - he got his succession clause in his prior contract, and instead of prepping for the job, just goofed off for years and didn't put effort into being ready to be an HC because he knew he was guaranteed the job regardless.
Good point. Kraft probably told him he was safe no matter how many games he lost.

Well, you know what Jerod... Kraft walked it back.

Meh. Jerod's wife coming to her husband's defense of his charater.
I’m guessing here

Kraft told Mayo to throw the last game
Kraft didn’t want to pay for free agents Mayo wanted to get.
Kraft talked crap about Belichick more than we can Imagine.
Kraft told Mayo his job was safe.
Kraft wouldn’t hire the staff Mayo wanted to put together.
Kraft screwed Mayo out of money.
Kraft was cheating and skirting rules somehow.

It’s gotta be something like that.
"My husband doesn't even play cards...."

I mean I get where she is coming from but Mayo going scorched earth on the org basically burns his only bridge in the league. Yet another drawback to having no experience outside Gillette.
This just in: local man with only 2 friends shoots 1, seeking new friends. More at 11:00

Mayo may have been safe if at least he acted competently on the sidelines and press conferences but he didn’t and Kraft didn’t expect that.

I think if the team hadn't come out so flat after the bye. It was clear that he had already given up on the season.

After he gave an interview with Curran during that same bye week that was all about "I'll be better in year 2" and "I never thought I could build a culture in year 1". Sounded like he was just writing off the rest of the year - and he did.

She’s been defending him on this message board since he was hired.
What was her name?
It was a joke towards posters that defended him since day 1. It was so unwarranted you’d think they were related to him.

I'll come clean: All offseason/camp/preseason and even the early weeks I thought @Real fan 02 was Mayo or related to him.

He spun a perfect 180 on Mayo at some point (the bad jete game) so I stopped thinking that and went back to assuming he's PF2's alter ego on a vpn.

His press conference was a mixed bag when he was hired, but I felt we were getting a younger more tech savvy Belichick kind of mind with more personality.
I was excited, week 1 beating the Bengals amplified that for me.
But as the season went on, mistakes repeated, he said things to call out and divide the team by week 10 I was refreshing every few minutes to see if he was fired yet.

The funny thing is that if Mayo does start **** then he will vindicate the Krafts for dumping him... It's not like they have to worry about the locker room being upset since most of the roster will be turned over anyway, and I don't think the real core players that need to be kept cared much about him.

Mayo already told his side of things ...

I can bet that this may be about Steve Belichick part. I suspect the Krafts directed a clean break, Mayo did their bidding, did a lot their way and Mayo feels the Krafts are back stabbing him. There were perhaps agreement that this year will not be used against him, the fans got angry, the Krafts reacted badly and Mayo feels betrayed.
I forget who said/wrote it, but I remember somewhere in the local media-sphere something about how some saw Jerod as a placeholder for Johnathan Kraft and Robyn Glaser to learn the ropes a bit with Bill being gone. Really wouldn't surprise me if Robert got charmed (manipulated) by Mayo and his son wasn't on board and once it became clear Mayo was a bad choice RKK handed the reigns to Johnathan behind closed doors.
