Mayo's Intoductory Press Conference

Funny how people like to read between the lines. I found the get away from Bill comment a joke, he wasn't serious. Mac Jone being there was meaningless, not sure how anyone seeing a guy under contract being at the press conference meaning anything.
The guy was hired a week ago, the personnel department has been without BB for a week, they are still evaluating everything. They don't need to decide everything today.
People really think they have a plan on who they are going to draft, who the QB will be, who they will sign as coaches and free agents 1 week later? Man, tough crowd that seems to have no patience at all.

Kraft made it clear they will not get involved in personnel decisions which is just how they've run thing anyways.
Mayo will be a better interview than BB in the weekly pressers so that's nice.

I feel bad for Mayo if that happens, because I don't think it will be him making that decision. Let Mayo start fresh with his own QB, don't saddle him with Belichick's problems.

And if they come back with Mac, no one can hold the Patriots' record against Mayo.

Having NO CHANCE at winning enough because your QB sucks is absolutely demoralizing for the entire offense.

This is a new day -- don't saddle Mayo with that.
They asked him what is needed to fix the offense and he said “it starts in the weight room”. Really.

I’m very afraid he is over his head.

Probably, but if they switch offensive systems to something he's a better fit for, maybe he can be decent? I don't know... Can he become as good as Goff is?

Even if Mac gets fixed mechanically and mentally, I fear he'll always be the guy who will drop F-bombs on his OC on the sideline if he doesn't like the way the game is being called. Or *****es out teammates if he's having a bad game. And the vibe I am getting from Mayo is, I fear, he's going to get walked all over by malcontents.

1.) Mac Jones is virtually untradeable.... so short of cutting him, he'll be in thee QB room next year, IMO.

2.) It doesn't mean he will be the starter or even given enough reps in camp to "compete". He also needs to beat out Zappe as well plus a possible additional veteran if we bring in both a rookie and a vet.

The Mendoza line for a qb is dropping back and executing like he understands the call, the goal of the play, and the coverage he is facing, and responding appropriately.
This is the #1 flaw in 10.

It’s like saying if we could only make the professional mathematician understand numbers better.

It's clear being a trusted insider was more important to Kraft at this juncture of his life/business.

Mayo is likable, and seems to have a healthy understanding of leaning on other experienced coaches/front office people...
But, the 2 or 3 references to how guys lift in the weight room as evaluation metrics is certainly worrisome!

He's not in charge of the FO so he won't speak to that. He's in the interview process for coaches so he won't speak to that either.

I know it's a new era but don't expect wholesale changes to how the Pats deal with the media.
Agreed. Mayo was himself IMO.. he said he wants his coaches to build relationships, and be able to help the players develop. That is huge! I really don't know what catastrophic changes or innovation that people want him to say. He's still putting his staff together, and going through the transition period from Bill after 24 seasons.. I've asked the question could Mayo be a mike Tomlin?

Dull bland vanilla introductory presser.
Things will be different from when Bill was here. The decision making process seems to have been parked to the side for now.
No real news to come out today other than Mayo calls his boss Thunder.

If Bill had a pet name for Kraft he would still be here

Mayo looks like he spends time in the weight room....

And it certainly can't hurt..... (shrugs)

Kraft mentioned why he didn't let Mayo go/hired him and compared him to the BB situation in "1996" which he meant 1997. So he holds him in a pretty high regard. I'm not worried about some press conference where the media can ask weird questions to throw you off guard. Nick Sirianni had a pretty bad press conference, but has gotten the Eagles 3 straight playoff appearances and one SB appearance.

Let's wait until what we see on Sundays.

I wouldn't get to concerned about that. He mentioned the weight room as an example of how guys are dedicated and working on thier bodies. It's all relative to being productive on the field.. the weight room, off season preparation, film study, staying after practice.. but hey he does not have all the answers right now.. no one does really.

Mac is going to be your starter. We're lucky they didn't announce they were picking up his option at this point.
It's a tricky spot with Mac. Under no circumstances do I want the guy to start for us again but if we draft Jayden Daniels I don't think we just want to throw him into the fire. There would need to be a bridge QB, but I'd hate for it to be Mac.

i hope not.
That is huge accomplishment .. 17 seasons not a loosing season. Thier QB situation has been worse than ours however he still gets his teams to throw playoffs in the toughest division in football.

Meh, not sure what everyone wanted him to say? “My first act as HC is to rid the place of Mac Jones, Bill O’Brien and Joe Judge effective immediately.”

The whole weight room thing sounded like a 9th grade gym teacher though.

we have fans who wanted bb out after 5 years with no playoff wins and six titles. tomlin has 17 years,1 title and it's been since 2016 since pitt has won a playoff game. so the bb dumpers would settle for this record??????

One thing seems as true as we all suspect from the outside:

BB had been sensing more and more of a splintered locker room, and even coaching staff over the last 2-3 years. Which probably made the culture of the entire organization a more prickly place of late, causing BB to be quite dictatorial.
It seems Mayo needs to cull the herd first, and see who's worth building new with. I just hope they land a top-level OC.
