If we get offered 2 #1s and 2 #2s and we're not sold on Daniels, then I make the trade back to 9 (at the latest) if that means I can pick up Nabers or Odunze.

I'd rather have Odunze and 3 premium picks than Harrison.

I'm a bit leery of Covington being named DC. Only because he's never called plays. That's a skill & feel & timing that takes learning.
After Steve B. calling plays the last 2+ years for a top ranked D, it's a bit odd to hand DC to a lower ranked asst. coach - while Steve is willing to stay... if merit-based in-house promotion is indeed the system a la Mayo.

If you have the third overall pick in the first and second round, you should be able to get both.

You should, the thing is making sure you get guys you want, just not guys that are there. I don't believe in the QB that will likely be there at 3, so I would be taking a LT at the top of the draft; will a QB with potential be there at the top of 2/bottom of 1? One that has enough tools to fit in whatever O system we'll be running?

One of the 2s has to be in '24; 9 is still a little further than I want to move back, but then again I'd be targeting Alt.

The question becomes, who is a starting caliber LT that will be there at the end of 1 start of 2? I would love for Mims to bet here. Give him a year of pro teaching, and have him ready to be top tier blindside guy in year 2. I just think he is going to go higher.

It sure looks like they intend to go young/inexperienced at OC but bring in somebody who has called offensive plays before to also have on staff. Scott Turner is the newest candidate for that “advisor” type role, joining Thomas Brown, Luke Getsy, and maybe Klint Kubiak (but his role in SF is more stable than the other three).

This thread is supposed to be about Mayo's coaching staff not who is being drafted when.

Glad Mayo has been busy with OC interviews. Really doing his homework. I guess we can't be upset about that.
But after 2 Caley meets, if he's still broadening the search that might not bode well for Caley getting it.

I guess Engstrand or Turner would be good choices if not Caley.

Because anyone from 49ers benefits from excellent personnel, and Kyle. But Bears, Panthers guys don't excite me.

I read Getsy interview could be teams getting extra intel about Fields.

Scott Turner is Norv Turner's son. He coached under Norv in Cleveland, Minnesota and Carolina, then was the OC in Washington, before becoming the pass game coordinator for Josh McDaniels in 2023 in Vegas.

Fair, I rarely even look at thread titles, I open a bunch of tabs and read them. I'll try to do better on my part.

Can we hire 2 to 5 of these guys for roles.
I’d love to get a mix of Niners, and Lions coaches for differing ideas and philosophies.

Agreed. I've been saying take the QB at 3 or wherever he lands in the top 5.. I'm sure we can move around. Take the LT later in the 1st at what 34? Or something like that. We need talent!
It depends how you evaluate and rank the QB's.

Suppose the draft goes Caleb Williams and Drake Maye one/two... do you like Jayden Daniels or someone else at #3?

That might be a big reach, especially if you like Bo Nix, JJ McCartthy or Mike Penix as much or more than Daniels.

In that case, I'm either trading back a few spots and/or taking OT Joe Alt or another OT, then taking one of those QB's at the top of the second round. You could even trade back up into the first with that extra ammo to target your QB.

Well, I mean I like Daniel's at 3 yes, but as you mentioned we also need a LT.. I think Daniel's will fall to us IF we stay at #3..
