Mayo's Coaching Staff [Discuss Coaching Candidates Here!]

I'm all for Josh McD coming back as OC.

There are currently 8 offensive coordinator openings...

Let's just take what I'm saying at the face value instead of talking in circles around it like everyone is... that...

It's pure denial to pretend like we aren't at or near the bottom of desirable OC openings IMO,
let me get this straight; I and several others just talked you down from worst of 32 down to worst of 8; but WE are all the ones talking in circles and living in denial saying we aren’t the worst choice of those 8. Lol.

PS. It would make it easier for all to read & for me to highlight the illogical portions if you didn’t write so much drivel.

I don’t think Mayo thinks Mcdaniels is the right choice to relate to and mold young athletes. Also since every Interview has come from the Mcvay tree so far I think it’s safe to say Mayo has a type.
Tough offense to defend against.

It really surprises me that Eric Bieniemy hasn't had any nibbles for interviews.

I've always been much more impressed with Andy Reid's offenses than McVay's anyway, but maybe people know Bienemy has very little to do with that

wasn’t he accused of rape or domestic violence when he was younger?
I don’t see RKK signing off on him if that is the case.

Saw a video on YouTube where Reggie Bush was saying McDaniels is not a good coach. Edelman's response was he is a good Xs and Os guy. Did not even try to defend him.

That was very telling. He has not done anything with anyone that's not Brady. I don't want him.

He was a supposedly "hot" OC for years, did a bunch of interviews, and was never hired. Took a AHC/OC move to try and get out from A Reid's shadow and improve his chances. We'll see what happens in a couple of years.....I would suspect either his background, his interview, or that Reid calls his own plays is a problem for him.

Based on the rumors it seems like scheme wise the Pats will be running the Belichick defense and a version of the McVay offense.

During the season when it seemed clear that the Pats were moving on from Belichick i didn’t enjoy the idea of switching to a different defensive scheme. With how the defense has continually performed even in the recent lean years under Belichick I wanted that continuity.

With Mayo and hopefully Steve B. Coming back I feel good about the defense going forward. The offense needed a change, it seemed like Bill knew it when he tried to transition to a wide zone scheme under Patricia. Interviewing McVay coaching tree guys while keeping the defense intact conceptually seems like a good idea.

Now all they need are the players to run that offense.

That's why Mayo was a good choice. Anyone else you bring in would've revamped the entire system and it would've taken 3 years. At least now, we can focus on the offense (finally). Maybe we shave off a year to become competitive. But yea, need the talent which I'm confident they'll bring in.

How'd he do with Matt Cassell? Garoppolo? Brisset? Mac Jones?

At some point, Patriots fans need to come to grips with the fact that Belichick and many of the assistant coaches were in New England with Brady for 20 years. It's a very long time. It was the bulk of Brady's career, the bulk of their careers.

Your OC needs to be a good Xs and Os guy. As for Reggie Bush, how would he know?

Most likely Maye, but also Daniels could with a few tweaks.

IMO, that goes without saying. Maye would be a better fit for games in Foxboro, Buffalo, and the Meadowlands with the climate challenges particularly the winds. But I am intrigued by Daniels who kinda looks like a Randall Cunningham to me.

i think it would be wise,if it is possible, for mayo to do what it is reported a. pierce is doing with coughlin/lewis and get a former hc on his staff. if the guy is willing to be advisor/assistant hc or wants to rehab his reputation to try to be a hc again (preferably the former), he could be a valuable resource for a VERY inexperienced new hc on the aspects of being a hc which are completely outside the realm of their past experience. knowing what you don't know is about as important as actual knowledge.
Flores would be ideal.
Or Fat Matt? You might think he’s D and Mayo comes from the defensive side of the ball, and it might be better for Mayo to have an assistant with strong offensive background. But Matt was co-offensive coordinator for a year…

or if that taint is too strong, how about Josh McD? He’d be valuable especially if they decide to ride with Mac another year.

i love him too. with him though he's with minn so he'd have to be offered a promotion to leave or they could block it.
Assistant HC would be a promotion for Flores, right?

i think so. i think he is a dc only in minn.
but your previous post with offense might work netter depending on who they hire as oc. the isdue would be toe trampling in either case. so there would need to be boundaries/clearly defined expectations/roles.

So the Patriots had an in-person interview with Nick Caley yesterday, and now have an in-person interview with Zac Robinson as well as a virtual interview with Dan Pitcher each today. So assume we will get some news soon. Though they will still need to do two minority interviews, as I am guessing based on photos and names that all of these guys fall outside of that bucket - but you never really know.
They interviewed Waldron but that never came out. We really don't know who else has been interviewed. I would think they would have a good idea of the order of preference for hire by end of the week.

Bedard mentioned on his podcast yesterday that the Senior Bowl is next week and it is commonplace for interviews to happen there. Mayo could go and do a few while he is there, for OC, DC, ST or positional roles.
