i love him too. with him though he's with minn so he'd have to be offered a promotion to leave or they could block it.Flores would be ideal.

Is that because the last two have been treated so well?Any OC job in the NFL is desirable, maybe not compared to other teams but there's plenty of guys chomping at the bit to take an OC job with the Pats.
I don't think it's a stretch to say that this is an undesirable OC destination. Mayo has never coached or played anywhere else…..
Kraft, …is expressing he wants a quick turnaround …… Sets you up to be a scapegoat.
There isn't a starting QB in place. Nothing is more important as an OC than marrying your scheme to your QB and anyone coming in is doing so with no idea who that is. …..
Even outside of the QB, the OL is poor and….. There's no talent to fall back on. …..
There's just no way to spin this as a desirable OC job. I'm not saying no one will take it, …..
NO. It’s not that there are 32 OC positions. There are only appx 10 OPEN OC positions. The rest are occupied and the incumbents aren’t taking a lateral move. You're right that there are only 32 OC positions in the NFL but it's all relative. If you rank all 32 situations, it's insanity to suggest we rate anywhere but at or close to the bottom of those 32 situations.
I'm not saying no one will take this job. But it's hard to imagine anyone is looking at us as their top choice.
Too bad it doesn’t apply to teams who develop assistants of any race who get hired away by other teams.I think you misunderstand - the draft compensation is given to the team who developed and lost the minority coach, not the team who hired him. Therefore it is actually beneficial, because it is incentivizing teams to hire minority coaches at lower levels and develop them enough that they would become quality candidates for higher level positions and be hired away from your organization. There is no draft pick incentive for a team to hire a minority themselves for these roles subject to Rooney Rule requirements.
Have you ever actually looked at the staff in recent years? 19 coachesin retrospect, I think this was the 2d biggest failing in the last decade of BB. The successive brain drains of McDaniels etc leaving and other outside hires of a relatively smaller staff caused him to have a very small circle of trust. That resulted in that echo chamber RK and Mayo talked about and most of the management issues.
the results of the echo chamber were very likely those bad picks FA decisions and maybe even his #1 failure: misjudging TB’s longevity. (Oooops sorry shouldn’t have said that last and opened a door to hell. Please don’t walk thru )
It does de-emphasize the TE and emphasize the WR, at least as far as usage. Maybe just bringing back Pharaoh Brown and Gesicki is good enough? They would be cheaper. Invest in WR - sign Higgins, Ridley, Evans or Pittman and bring Bourne back also. Draft QB high.
Most likely Maye, but also Daniels could with a few tweaks.Which QB prospect bets fits in this scheme?

Even if pats were the bottom of barrel that still makes us choice 10 for about appx 75 candidates between 2d tier offense up-coming coaches; unemployed, or college ranks guys.
any team that just fired their HC and thereby opened up their OC position is in turbulence. And half of them are owned or managed by crap owners or ****head GMs because they are on the 3-year rinse-repeat cycle. That is a preferred situation to RK who just had the longest running HC and I believe franchise that holds the longevity record w Dante S for a coach.
As to Mayo being former -D first time HC: that would tend to make folks think the OC will get a lot of deference and independent authority. That I would think would be desirable
as to the sucky roster. We are still talking the nfl here. Maybe they arent all all pros; but you only need 2-3 to make the whole 11 look better than they are individually. 100Mill can get you some 2-3 FAs; and getting in early means you can shape the draft and the FA hires.
BL. Maybe we not choice #1; but I don’t think 10 either. Call it 5 if you like.
anyway flip this around. Mayo is looking for a round peg; not all these guys are his first choice either. He is still sorting out the square blocks. I am sure there are more than 5 good round pegs though.

I would agree with this, Maye is just a better prospect, but Daniels also brings a couple benefits that Maye doesn’t have. Most likely Maye, but also Daniels could with a few tweaks.
Can you explain how the Raiders, Steelers, Seahawks, Browns and Saints jobs are all markedly better than NE’s? It’s all about the QB, and none of them have an impressive one. Only the Bengals and Eagles are way better opportunities in my eyes, and Pitcher is probably filling one of those by default. There are currently 8 offensive coordinator openings...

Personally, I think every single one of the other openings is a better situation to walk into. So far we've interviewed 4 guys (Caley, Pitcher, Robinson, Waldron). One of them (Waldron) already filled the CHI vacancy. Pitcher and Robinson each have interviewed other places that, IMO, represent better opportunities. Caley hasn't been interviewed by anyone but us.
Let's just take what I'm saying at the face value instead of talking in circles around it like everyone is... we are one of many teams trying to land an OC in this hiring cycle. I believe our situation is at or near the bottom in terms of desirable landing spots. There are dozens and dozens of guys who could reasonably be hired as OC and I'm not suggesting we won't be able to get one of them. But every year that are a few candidates most sought after and all I'm saying is that I don't like our chances of landing one of those guys because if someone has multiple suitors then they've probably got better options. And having to settle for our 2nd choice would be worst than the 1st. And the 3rd would be worse than the 2nd. And the 4th worse than the 3rd. And on and on like that...
It's pure denial to pretend like we aren't at or near the bottom of desirable OC openings IMO, and there's no way to spin that as anything but a negative for us. It's really very simple.
Don’t forget the old Harrison at 3 to match with free agent Pittman and Bourne.I would agree with this, Maye is just a better prospect, but Daniels also brings a couple benefits that Maye doesn’t have.
Back in the day (just on offense) CW leaves and BOB comes in. BOB leaves and JM comes in. On defense it's the same thing. One coordinator leaves and one steps in and so on. That hasn't been the case the last 4 or 5 seasons.in retrospect, I think this was the 2d biggest failing in the last decade of BB. The successive brain drains of McDaniels etc leaving and other outside hires of a relatively smaller staff caused him to have a very small circle of trust.
