Mayo will be the new HC

Everyone wants to get younger. Then as soon as they have a young guy, they are upset. Makes no sense.

majority of the board called for Bill to be fired 2 days ago.....now its a huge mistake...

i swear im confused...

I guess I just don't understand why a vast majority of the fanbase is already acting like they know mayo is a bad coach and this is a horrible decison.

I honestly don't know...

Your point is a valid one. Which is why IF Mayo gets the nod, we need to give him a chance. People are just understandably skittish because he is so inexperienced compared to other available candidates. I happen to be among them but have an open mind about this thing.

Seems like people are turning on him cause he supposedly sabotaged Bill.

Is there really anything significant to that? All I've seen are vague media reports re. Mayo "rubbing people the wrong way," which he thoughtfully addressed.

I haven’t seen anything but to be fair I haven’t looked around, don’t care to. Just going off what other posters have brought up.

This is a lazy take. Look at the timeline of events. This was carefully orchestrated and not by Mayo. Per Reiss, Kraft doesn't attend Steelers game, where despite the win, Pats are eliminated from playoffs. Shortly after, Curran comes out w/ his article about Germany game. Two days later, Bedard slams Mayo based on 'multiple sources.' Per Reiss, Kraft again misses Broncos road game (a rarity). After loss to the Bills, Mayo is told to respond to Bedard's article. Two days later, Herald slams dysfunction within Bill's team. Three days later Jets beat Pats at final home game.

Dec 7 - TNF Pats beat Steelers (Kraft no show)
Dec 7 - WK 14: Pats eliminated from playoffs
Dec 12 - Curran "a decision was made" article
Dec 14 - Bedard on Mayo "rubbing ppl the wrong way"
Dec 17 - Chiefs beat Pats
Dec 24 - Pats beat Broncos (Kraft no show)
Dec 31 - Bills beat Pats (Kraft leaves early)
Jan 2 - Mayo responds to Bedard article
Jan 4 - Boston Herald article on Pats dysfunction
Jan 7 - Jets beat Pats at home. 4-13 record
Jan 8 - Bill's morning PC - giving up GM
Jan 9 - Curran calls BS on Bill giving up GM
Jan 10 - Kraft fires Bill
Jan 11 - Kraft/Bill announcement

Krafts orchestrated this to prepare the fan base for both Bills' departure and the Mayo announcement. There is zero chance Mayo would stick his neck out to leak this to the media knowing Kraft was considering him for future HC. Too much downside.

I've gotta say, Krafts have more balls than I thought. Kraft knew this was going to be difficult to sell to the fans but his mind was made up. He was done with Bill. He used Curran to do his bidding.

How could Mayo sabotage Bill even if he wanted to? He didn't have that kind of power. What's he going to do, give Bill even WORSE suggestions on offense?

Also he worked on the defense, the part of the team that DID work. Everyone was mad at Bill for the offense, which wasn't even Mayo's lane.

This conspiracy stuff is intensely dumb.

Why would he want to do that though? He’s still pretty young. Seems like a guy who would want to be on the field… is there any indication he wants to be an executive at all?
Vrabel's almost 50. Older than Brad Stevens. I actually really like the idea, but I don't know if Vrabel would be interested

People talking so authoritatively about who Curran's source was and nobody has any actual idea. Funny. Also, who cares who his source was

Also, nobody knows what kind of head coach Mayo will be. And the decision hasn't even been announced, or possibly even been made yet. So let's relax

Current strengths of the Pats: D
Current weaknesses: GM, O, ST

Imho, this is an excellent move and worth the shot. Former Pat Mayo has been a leader on and off the field. I'm disappointed that BB isn't going to coach for the Pats anymore, but RKK's explanation about how BB can't just relinquish GM duties makes sense.

Yup. I think guys here just want *****.

Not only that but think about this:

1. Mayo already has an in to the HC gig once BB is no longer the HC.
2. So "after" the team is eliminated from playoffs with a record of 3-10, Mayo decides it's a good idea to leak to Curran that the Krafts decided after the Germany game to part ways w/ Bill (how would he even know that?).
3. So we're to believe that w/ a terrible record and knowing he's in line for the job, he's going to stick his neck out, unnecessarily, to leak something that probably only 3 people know and risk the Krafts ire because of it; while the D is playing as hard as it can.

It's a stupid lazy take.

Huge fan of meritocracy and someone ascending to the HC who knows this system, its strengths and pitfalls.
If it is Mayo needs to clean house and hire a strong OC such as McDaniels who has had success here, not sure about the D coordinator but there are probably great choices.
The front office hire is critical, once again someone who is familiar with this team may be beneficial as well.
There is a relatively short window to start this rebuild..

One of my biggest worries about hiring Mayo is who will be on his staff? What will the future staff look like, could we see a bigger staff like the 49ers do, with there pass game coordinators and run game coordinators etc? The other thing with Mayo does he have the connections around the leauge to build out a staff? Thats one of the things i'm more worried about, same can be said for the Front office and how he would like that to be structured and who he would want to be the GM and what that could look like

Can he even organize a team? I'm a huge Mayo fan but this is too much too soon. We're not setting him up to succeed by throwing him into the fire.
Havent you heard?

Mayo is ready for an NFL HC job. If you dont believe it just ask him.

Patriots get a draft pick for hiring Mayo.

I have it on good authority that the entire Patriots management group is directly connected to Roswell, is getting their instructions through jet trails. You just need to know how to read them. If you've had a Covid vaccination or drunk the tap water in San Francisco however, you can't. Unless you were at some point on Jeffrey Epstein's plane, in which case that ability was restored.

Life is all about you making the most of whatever lemonade is thrown at you

Mayo has a big heart, a great head, and has always been lauded as "coach in the field"

If he is indeed our next hire, Im all on board, as long as it's followed by deep changes in the staff (coaching and management).

Mayo just had champagne thrown at him if this is true.

Yup. I'll be very disappointed if Mayo is chosen over the likes of Vrabel, Harbaugh, Flores, Ben Johnson, etc. Seriously, WHAT has Mayo demonstrated to qualify him as head coach? He might have leadership qualities and be a bright guy, etc. but he's only coached four years and not even at the coordinator level.
I heard Flores is real abrasive to assistant coaches and players. He didn't do a good job with Tua.

I'm willing to get behind Mayo as HC, but we need the right GM and OC to complement him. The coaching and scouting staffs need a major overhaul to come into the modern Era.

Flores, who I like, burned a bridge w/ the Patriots. Doubt he'd be considered.
