I don't like to start new threads if I can find a related thread to add my points to, but this is a bit of a different take on the Wells Report.

During the wait for the release of the report, we have been discussing who may have been involved in the whole affair and what levels were they involved. Now that the report has been released, the spotlight has been placed squarely on Brady, and the names Kensil, Grigson, et al are out of the picture.

We have been wondering what Goodell would do about disciplining an NFL front office legacy like Jim Kensil, and now we may know the answer. By putting the Pats on the defense, they will spend their efforts in clearing their name and fighting a Brady fine or suspension, but assuming that the discipline is not enough to get Brady to sue the league, then once this is over, the potential misdeeds by front office personnel may get lost in noise.

Could the league, knowing they had a weak case, have gone forth with the Wells Report as a distraction to take any attention off of the league office?
