How is Jeff Garcia not a better option then Matt Cassel? For the right price i would do it.Is Cassel capable of getting over more then 21 points in a game from time to time? No!!!!!!!!!!!!This team wont win with defense in each game.I cant believe the blinded pats fans who think Matty Cassel is the answer.
By the way, Jeff Garcia fits the criteria. He can get the ball downfield and he wont average 3.3 yards per pass play like Cassel.
First of all, what's the right price? What would you trade to get him, that Tampa would agree to?
Second of all, Garcia is a proven average QB with a career 87 QB rating. He's never been that good of a QB and he has reached/past his peak. This we KNOW.
3.3 yards per pass play is ONE game.... In Brady's 2nd start, against Miami in 2001, he had 3.5 YPA. Did you conclude after that game that Brady would not be "capable of getting over more then 21 points in a game from time to time?" So far this year Cassel is at 6.2 YPA including that abysmal (by the whole team) game against Miami. Garcia's career YPA is 6.9.
Once again you prove nothing and spout of useless opinions with no basis in fact.
Why do you fail to acknowledge that what we know of Cassel (after 4 years in this system, including many preseason games) is not promising? We get it - his epitaph hasn't been written yet. But, Jesus, the odds are against him. He looks unsure in the pocket. He hasn't started since high school. He wasn't good enough to play in college (who stays on a college team four years w/o starting - why didn't he transfer? What does that say about him?). Many "experts" are observing the same thing that clueless posters are observing, why the hell are you so sure that what we have seen to this point should not worry us - that's all I'm saying anyway. And, no I don't have an answer.
Unless you have the coach's tapes, you cannot really judge preseason games. It's hard enough with regular season games, but preseason is completely meaningless unless you know what you are looking for, which only the coaches really do. It's mainly for fringe players and rounding out the bottom part of the 53 man roster.
As for his college, he played behind two heisman winners at a great university. It also says that he has a lot of determination and preferred to learn at a great school rather than transfer to a lesser school just to play. He clearly worked hard enough through college to get drafted into the NFL. Countless college STARTING QBs do not get drafted.
There's a difference between being worried and declaring him worthless. I never said he is or will become great, I simply said it's way too early to tell. Hopefully he will grow into the role this year and perform respectably according to what the coaches need/ask of him. They kept him as the backup for 2 years for a reason, and hopefully he realizes that potential this year. Of course he's most likely gone after this year no matter how good or bad he plays. But for 2008 he is our QB and he has an unreached ceiling, we can only hope that he grows enough to help this team in his role (as 52 other players have roles as well).
I'm arguing against the "opinions" that declare him incapable of ever scoring points and playing well, or incapable of progressing, or incapable of helping the team in any way. I'm not arguing that he is already or definitely will become a good QB.
