HUH

Even if Cassel never improves, regresses and eventually sucks for his career, it doesn't mean any of the doom and gloomers had any sort of legit foresight. It's just hating and bashing and wishing for BB to be wrong without any basis in fact.

Listen, this has nothing to do with BB. This, at least for me, has to do with a feeling of having a strong possibility of winning a SB this year and the rug being yanked from underneath. And, unfortunately, that fine handmade persian rug has been replaced by a Kmart special. And while it's no fault of the Kmart special, it will (agree, unfairly) bear the brunt.

Ahh it's all emotional. Maybe this is good for you then, you'll learn to enjoy and trully value winning again. I mean even the greatest team ever didn't win the superbowl (last year), so nothing is ever a sure thing.

Winning is never as good when you expect it as when you don't. Enjoy the ride and give Cassel some time to grow before declaring he has peaked.

Yes. The trend of a winning record is truly frightening.
emoney_33, What TREND?
Trend: He looked good against the Chiefs, He looked passable against the Jets, He looked lost against the Dolphins.

My point is that everyone needs to take their pom poms off and see Cassel for what he is.Its amazing to see so much support for this guy.I dont care how long he has been under the system, the guy is average.

I gave u a QB already.

Garcia is at best average. Look up what the word means.
You're failing your own criteria.

You'll note that the oft injured Garcia isn't even starting for Tamper.

Ahh yes the all-telling 3 game trend. He looked relatively good in both the Chiefs and Jets games. He looked just like the entire team did against the Dolphins, yet still didn't make many stupid mistakes. When the O-Line doesn't block and the team doesn't play defense... you get fluke games like that.

From the games I've seen so far, I can draw the following conclusions: Matt Cassell ? Tom Brady, that's for sure.
Together with Brady we lost that extra dimension to our offense, the ability to strike at will, the ability to get the maximum out of every opportunity on offense. How well Cassell performs down the road depends on how well he absorbs and understands the playbook and the gameplan. The better he can handle it, the more BB and McDaniels can open up the offense.
No, I don't expect miracles, but since even the likes of Orton, Grossman, and Frerotte (or some other 3rd rate backup-caliber QBs) can put up serious numbers for a limited amount of games, I sure hope Cassell is able to do the same for the Pats, as long as it gets them to the playoffs.

Matt Cassell=Me nervous every game

Well you have to start somewhere.....

3 games, 2 starts, 4th year QB, 1st year starting. You do not start to make conclusions. You can note what he needs to work on etc..., but conclusions after this limited information is like concluding the coin I flip is double headed because heads came out twice in a row. Whether or not you turn out to be correct is irrelevant if your conclusion was a guess out of thin air.

artistic freedom, I refuse to use french words so I changed it (ok, you got me).

LOL - refuse too. It's a matter of principle though...

How is Jeff Garcia not a better option then Matt Cassel? For the right price i would do it.Is Cassel capable of getting over more then 21 points in a game from time to time? No!!!!!!!!!!!!This team wont win with defense in each game.I cant believe the blinded pats fans who think Matty Cassel is the answer.

By the way, Jeff Garcia fits the criteria. He can get the ball downfield and he wont average 3.3 yards per pass play like Cassel.

Why do you fail to acknowledge that what we know of Cassel (after 4 years in this system, including many preseason games) is not promising? We get it - his epitaph hasn't been written yet. But, Jesus, the odds are against him. He looks unsure in the pocket. He hasn't started since high school. He wasn't good enough to play in college (who stays on a college team four years w/o starting - why didn't he transfer? What does that say about him?). Many "experts" are observing the same thing that clueless posters are observing, why the hell are you so sure that what we have seen to this point should not worry us - that's all I'm saying anyway. And, no I don't have an answer.

When was the last time a team won an NFL championship when their defense didn't step up because their offense took over a game? I'd rather be a homer (fan of a team with 3 rings) than just plain blind...

It's what got us there last year, my friend.

The name of the game is to score more points than the opposition. Are you confident that the defense can stop people from scoring - enough that - at best- a game manager can do enough to win? I'm not so confident and I hope I am dead wrong.

What a shame to waste a Randy Moss season in his prime on this QB

What a shame to waste valuable thread space on another moronic Cassel-bashing thread. You might at least learn how to spell his name correctly.

First of all, what's the right price? What would you trade to get him, that Tampa would agree to?

Second of all, Garcia is a proven average QB with a career 87 QB rating. He's never been that good of a QB and he has reached/past his peak. This we KNOW.

3.3 yards per pass play is ONE game.... In Brady's 2nd start, against Miami in 2001, he had 3.5 YPA. Did you conclude after that game that Brady would not be "capable of getting over more then 21 points in a game from time to time?" So far this year Cassel is at 6.2 YPA including that abysmal (by the whole team) game against Miami. Garcia's career YPA is 6.9.

Once again you prove nothing and spout of useless opinions with no basis in fact.

Unless you have the coach's tapes, you cannot really judge preseason games. It's hard enough with regular season games, but preseason is completely meaningless unless you know what you are looking for, which only the coaches really do. It's mainly for fringe players and rounding out the bottom part of the 53 man roster.

As for his college, he played behind two heisman winners at a great university. It also says that he has a lot of determination and preferred to learn at a great school rather than transfer to a lesser school just to play. He clearly worked hard enough through college to get drafted into the NFL. Countless college STARTING QBs do not get drafted.

There's a difference between being worried and declaring him worthless. I never said he is or will become great, I simply said it's way too early to tell. Hopefully he will grow into the role this year and perform respectably according to what the coaches need/ask of him. They kept him as the backup for 2 years for a reason, and hopefully he realizes that potential this year. Of course he's most likely gone after this year no matter how good or bad he plays. But for 2008 he is our QB and he has an unreached ceiling, we can only hope that he grows enough to help this team in his role (as 52 other players have roles as well).

I'm arguing against the "opinions" that declare him incapable of ever scoring points and playing well, or incapable of progressing, or incapable of helping the team in any way. I'm not arguing that he is already or definitely will become a good QB.

Yea we won a ton of 40-39 games last year . Our defense was not inept last year and played pretty damn well all year, including the superbowl.

I will tell you why the defense looked so great last year...

This team was ahead of their opponents so fast that the defense only had to worry about the pass by the second half - No team was going to try and run the ball when they were down by 20 points so the defense against the run was not a factor - It will be this year and if last week was not a fluke then this run D is going to have lots of problems - No more one dimentional opponents as it was for about 3/4 of the 2007 season - We will see some of the NFLs best RBs trying to shove it down our throats
