Maroney: two break out runs

Not hitting the hole with precise power isn't the same as being a ballerina behind the line. He has hit the hold and at times studdered after hitting it. He's not perfect and still has a way to go, but I think people just exaggerate on his "dancing". He has regularly gotten positive yardage without large runs. If he was consistently dancing BEHIND the line he wouldn't be getting positive yardage. He's not where he could be with the cutting and decision making, but he's a lot better off than what some make him out to be.

Emoney -
Don't get me wrong. I have NOT judged Maroney like VJC, FrontSeven, Danny88 and NSA. But Maroney has done some dancing behind the line. The biggest problem I've seen with Maroney is his lack of patience. His timing is off. That is what caused the hitch in his run that many people take for "dancing". However, that HITCH, slows him down tremendously.. He hasn't done it today..

You and I think very similarly on Maroney.. I really like how Maroney has been progressing. Considering the holes in his game coming out of college (lack of receiving experience, lack of pass blocking experience, overall experience) I like what I see. Am I fully convinced? No. BUt I am getting there.

Lets Go NSA I want to know what you have to say now 2 50+ yard runs. oh and 11.1 YPC

Seems to me that the OL has been spending a lot more time coordinating their blocking scheme for Maroney over the last few weeks.

That wasn't the case for the first half plus of the season - they were all about pass protection.

Now they seem to be at the point where they can adequate pass block AND focus more on the running game.

Obviously that's not a coincidence and is something Belichick is focusing on heading into the playoffs.

Maroney is amazing when he gets some running room. It just sucks when there are 2 guys or more sitting the backfield waiting for him by the time he gets the ball handed to him.

That's happened way too much. I think they need to work on that zone blocking scheme as much as possible.

That's great to see!

NSA? VJC? Frontseven?

Excelllent! I'm psyched.

I could not see the game, and I'm using a bare-bones connection that won't tolerate videos. I wish somebody would describe the run to the house.

This got little coverage around the major sites like ESPN as everybody is focused on either the overall record, the TD pass records, and what not. To me the story of the game could be Maroney, not the other two guys. There is not much to be found about it.

One impact play per game will cause defenses to have to game-plan him. They will also have to respect the play-action just a bit more.

What ballerina stuff? He has hit the holes decisively mostly all season. There have been cases of good run defenses plugging the holes and missed blocks forcing Maroney to dance around a tackle in the backfield. But he hasn't unnecessarily danced behind the line this year, he's been a lot more decisive all year. As evidenced by his 4+ YPC without any long runs up until today. He has consistently gotten positive yardage.

COMPLETELY CORRECT. LoMar has been disappointing at times, but hitting the hole and the "dancing" myth need to die - hard.

Well, the point of my posting has been that he hasn't performed like a first round pick. Today he did.

There has been talk from Brady (didn't see it mentioned here) that Laurence has had a confidence issue. Laurence denied it recently. There *is* something going on with Laurence whether we want to admit it or not. What is it? Well, if Brady said the "C" word then it's a good bet that confidence is a real issue.

Perhaps the last two games indicate that he's turning the corner. I'd say that the evidence for that looks pretty good.

With him and Morris in that backfield the team actually has a much better than average running game. It's almost too much to believe that a passing team like this has such a good running game when they're all healthy.

The run to the house was kind of weird. The blocking was superb and there was a decent hole that Maroney got through on the left side of the line and he blew right through it and was gone, nobody within 30 or more yards of him. There were NO defensive players deep. They were all packed near the line of scrimmage to stuff a short run.

Maroney has ran well the last 2 weeks. I'll give the kid his due. However, good backs are suppossed to run well against the Jets and Dolphins especially when they run behind three pro bowl linemen and have Tom Brady at QB. Great backs also run well against top flight defenses too. Let's see what the kid does come playoff time when he goes up against legitemate defenses. I'm still not sold.

Maroney is about the same age as Mcfadden but is more polished.
If we give this guy a healthy off season to get stronger I believe his ceiling is high.
If he can add 15, 20 pounds of muscle, next year there might be a new top rb in the league and he wears the flying elvis!

Two break out runs....................through two big holes I could of driven my truck through.

You're just being a loser...good backs run through the gaping holes they see. You're kidding me, right?

Actually as I recall, I said that it was his BEST chance to get 100 yard rushing games since he was facing the #30 and #32 ranked run defenses respectively. I conducted a poll to see how many actually BELIEVED he would do it. 70% of Patriot nation said no, they didn't think he would.

I am happy to see that Maroney has stepped up in the last 2 games, if he hadn't it would have been a serious disappointment and even a bit puzzling that he couldn't have success against the worst run defenses in the league. What do we know after today is over? That Maroney can run roughshod, as he SHOULD, against the #30 and #32 ranked run D's in the NFL. At least he can do that, that's a relief.

Let's hope Maroney can keep this hot streak going. It would be nice if he could continue that against the Giants (ranked #11 vs the run).
The Patriots will also be needing the running game more and more as the playoffs start.

No you see you cannot credit the OL for the blocking because you refuse to blame the OL when they don't block well. You cannot have it both ways.

Bottom line is, YOU personally said that Maroney could NOT rush for 100+ against the jets and fins. He has done that, now eat some crow and stop trying to justify your dislike for Maroney, THANKS.

BTW, we've had a healthy run game all year. And one of the reasons we still have a healthy run game is because they haven't been used unnecessarily, especially after Morris went down.

Of course, I still hope for good enough weather to pass in effectively because well we have Tom Brady and company.

Give the kid some time. Do you honestly expect him to be an all-pro at age 22in his second year?

You mean second week, right?

You're supposed to be an all pro by your second week.

Second year, you're supposed to be consensus Hall of Fame.

Granted it was "only Miami", but it was great to see.

I get the impression you wanted Maroney to fail and are unhappy he had a good game.
