Malcolm Butler mulling retirement.

"Malcolm, Go!! "

Greatest Superbowl Play in history.

Won 2 rings. Also made a Pro Bowl one year then 2nd team all-pro the following year. Was a starting CB for the #1 best defense in the NFL in points given up.

Pretty good for an undrafted guy who was working groceries. The career equivalent of Kurt Warner for CBs.

I worry that things have been difficult for MB for some time… I mean, the less-than-upfront news suggests there are challenges.

Thank you, Malcolm. Should have had a third ring.

Rumors were they wanted him gone during the first training camp.

It was speculated he signed Flowers in pure desperation to help get the locker room under control. That will probably go down as the worst FA signing of all time.

Flowers was a bad signing, but the worst of all time? Remember that ridiculous contract the Washington Team gave Albert Haynesworth for him to play like an average DT for two years before he was cut? Or how about the Jets signing LeVeon Bell to a silly contract only for him get no more than 800 yards in a season and average 3.2 YPC? Or the Saints signing Jarius Byrd to a huge contract for him to get three INTs over three seasons? Or the Washington Team making Josh Norman the highest paid CB in the league to only have him play like a mediocre one? Or the Eagles signing Nmamdi Asomugha who had four INTs in three years?

Flowers was not a good FA signing, but not remotely the worst signing of all time.

Yes. He was paid $90M which was absolutely absurd for a guy of his caliber. He’s among the highest paid at his position for really no reason. He had a rough first year with the media questioning his “Casper the friendly Ghost” impersonation. He had a late season surge in meaningless games making his season “look” respectable.

Then he had an injury riddled 2nd year.

Arguably a player from the same team, same year was worse. Highest paid lineman in the NFL at the time.

He had a better first year in Detroit than either year Haynesworth had in DC. And Flowers is only in the third year of his deal.

Both are really bad signings. Not sure about Haynesworth, but Detroit’s D got worse after they signed Flowers. You would think for $90M they would trend in the other direction.

He was bad with the Pats as he was routinely chasing after D lineman after they’d get around the edge. This largely got unnoticed due to Brady’s quick decision making.

Maybe he can retire and finally tell us the truth about why he was benched for the iggies SB
I still think he ran his mouth at Steve Belichick.

Steve was coaching the secondary at the time and Butler was struggling. Heck the whole secondary was struggling. Steve wanted him to do something, Butler was resisting the idea, someone said something stupid, egos flare, and one thing leads to another. Happens all the time in locker rooms but usually the team manages to keep it behind closed doors.

if Butler made a threat to Steve during that kind of argument though, everything that follows makes sense.

This was my initial reaction. Little Stevie got upset and told on Malcolm.
