Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

If Patricia ends up signing him, that would shed some curious light on his Super Bowl benching
Why? Hasn’t it always been obvious that it was Belichicks call? Or are you referring to the people who said the reason was for something other than performance?

I agree that’s the likely answer, but who really knows based on public info?

Even if Belichick was the sole decision-maker in his benching for breaking a team rule, Butler could still be upset at Patricia for not standing up to Bill or negotiating a less harsh punishment than zero snaps.

All I'm concerned with as far as Malcolm is concerned is.....What is the compensation pick for losing him

There was a rumor/report from a source that Bill had wanted to bench Butler the previous week against the Jaguars but the coaches, including Patricia had talked him out of it. And that Bill had benched Butler very shortly before the SB so as to avoid that happening again.

If that is the case, Patricia really had nothing to do with it.

It wasnt about breaking a team rule to the best of our knowledge.
To the best of our knowledge he had a terrible week of practice bolstered by starting the week ill, and wasn’t with the game plan in practice. Zero snaps seems to be a function of having a melt down on game day when he realized he was cb3.

Which points the finger more and more at a non football cause.....which is moronic to do at the last moment of the season

This may very well be true (and probably is), but it's also one of those reports that the agent absolutely has to get out there to prevent other teams from being scared away. All these teams are going to be looking at the Lions for guidance on whether Butler is worth a big contract or not.

We don't know that it was his fault. Could be voices in his head told BB to bench him for all we know.
And he could have been abducted by aliens

But he *was* still benched nonetheless.
Yup and if he didn’t get himself benched he might have made a play that would have been the difference.

I don't like this storyline. The NFL writers clearly lost the thread somewhere. Should probably just write this Malcolm Butler character out of the script. Doesn't make sense anymore.
