Mac Jones Tackle Attempt on Chandler Jones - There was no shot

Mac made an awful attempt on the tackle and he's getting ripped for it by some media outlets. However, the coaching staff is mostly to blame for blatantly ill-advised play-call. There were two options there: hail mary or kneel down. Any type of run play should not have been a consideration. So more than any player, I'm blaming the coaching staff for this play.
Personally I’d run a draw over a Hail Mary there but kneel down most of all. Right after calling the draw Id say, we’re tied, so no laterals.

Do we know what the coaches told the players before the play? Patricia looked pretty excited on the sideline when the ball started getting tossed around... clapping and triumphantly raising his arms into the air.

For crying out loud - look at the first photo, which I froze because all the other shots were Jones on the ground, with people basically saying he went to his knees, which wasn't the case. What do you seriously expect him to do? He squared up - as best he could - and tried to go in low on him. But Chandler Jones's stupidly long arm never let him get close, and he's significantly stronger.

He had. No. Chance.
Thank you! People acting like Mac didn't get stiff armed by an all pro monster and just folded out of sheer terror.

Chandler Jones wins Angry Run scepter. That's just f*cking great.

I put these in another thread, but Jones did actually try to tackle him, but Chandler Jones has such ridiculously long arms, he had no shot:

From there, there wasn't anyone even close enough to chase him down and make a play:

There was no one close other than offensive linemen. If we were placing our hopes for Onwenu to chase him down, even if Jones had held him a little longer, obviously that's not likely. And there was no one, save for maybe Hunter Henry, who was even close enough speed-wise after that to stop it.

Again, the fact people are mad at Mac about this is a little unfair. I wouldn't have been mad at Brady back in the day either, because a QB's body isn't made for making a tackle and the risk of injury isn't worth it. If it's between your QB and a defensive end a the end of a game, something has clearly gone terribly bad enough where you deserve to lose. And that's - unfortunately - what happened :(
If Mac had to suffer suffer a season ending injury to make that tackle I'd say it's worth it to avoid that embarassment.

Watch the angry run segment. They were laughing their asses off at Mac. Even McCourty voted to give Chandler Jones the scepter. It was unanimous. We've become the laughingstock of the league. It's beyond embarrassing. Kraft has to be pissed.

Even if Meyers got the ball to Mac, Chandler would have killed him. He could have pile driven him into the ground without chance of a penalty. Just so dumb of a play.

Imagine being Mac:
Oh well, guess we're going to overtime. Wonder what John Madden was like. Bet he didn't suck like Fat MattyP. Whatever you do Jakobi, don't lateral it to Nelson. Wait, did he just throw it to me? Oh crap, time to make the tackle. <<THUMP sees grass and Chandler in the end zone>> WTF just happened? Thanks Billy, why didn't we just take a knee?

The only smart call there was taking a knee. Where they were, the odds were as good or greater for a turnover returned for a TD (even with no stupid laterals) as there was for a TD. If the Pats were down and going to lose, then you take a shot. With a tie, there was more downside than upside going for it.

The old Belichick would have taken a knee. Old Belichick makes a stupid decision. I am guessing he let Patricia make the call.

Mac

I just think getting worked up over this tackling attempt is so pointless because it's so far down the list of issues in this game. Meyers literally lateraled the ball directly to a Raiders player with 0 time on the clock in a tie game headed for overtime. The defense crapped it's pants at the end allowing the Raiders to march down, the refs blew the call on the TD, the special teams allowed another blocked punt in idiotic fashion, we had TDs wiped off the board due to clock/pre-snap management, Mac himself played poorly, etc, etc, etc. It seems so silly to zone in on the tackling attempt there.
Yeah. That is what I was trying to figure out. I am not even sure who Meyers was trying to throw it to.o_O

People were blaming Jones and not Meyers on Sunday for the TD. People said punters have no problem tackling returners. So why couldn't Jones. But 175lb Marcus Jones is a lot easier to bring down 260lb Chandler Jones.
They were? I wasn’t active. Let’s call them out for that stupidity. Quote the posts.

I don't call out people. I have told you that. If you want to find it yourself. I will tell you the person who claimed Mac Jones should have made the tackle, they did so somewhere in the first 15 pages of the official post game thread and I responded to him in the first 35 pages. Go find it yourself. If you are smart enough, I gave you enough clues here to know exactly where go to find the posts.

This one?

Ironically it came down to Mac Jones making a tackle and he got trucked.

That’s far from absolving Meyers and the coaches, and blaming Mac. That’s just stating the obvious - the game came down to a tackle being needed and it didn’t happen. If there’s another post you have in mind, let me know.

Wrong post and wrong poster. The post I am talking about references specifically that punters make tackles in reference to that Jones should have made it too. In fact, he makes multiple posts blaming Jones.

I’ll keep looking but, if I’m being honest, that doesn’t sound like someone absolving Meyers and blaming it all on Mac. We will see.

Brady would've tackled him and ran it back after the fumble. It's right there in black and white people.

It sure is...

For the record I love me some Tom F Brady and I'd never slam the GOAT but Mac Jones getting trucked was hardly the worst attempt at a tackle by a Patriots QB.

When you find the one about the punt. Check back farther from this same poster where he has another post where he clearly blames Jones for loss.
