Lombardi: The Jets want Brandon Marshall

Re: Lombardi...The Jets want Brandon Marshall

Exactly.

Marshall is unreal, but I wouldnt trade him for Revis straight up. Revis is more rare than Marshall. You can find top level wr's much easier than true shutdown corners. Revis is an awesome player.
Finally you said something that makes sense!

To go a step further...If the Bronc's wanted to do a deal for Revis, I'd ask for Marshall, Champ Bailey and to swap first rounders (which I'd package up with Bailey and another pic; trade up and get Hayden). That would be a nice haul for those scumbag cigar smoking Jets losers.

Give the Jets credit for trying to make their team better and not sitting around on their behinds hoping a rookie falls out of the sky to save their season.

This is amazing how so many people are dissing Marshall. He is a top 4 WR and is far and away better than anything the Patriots have. Yes he is better than Moss at this point in their careers
To suggest that he wouldn't eb an instant major upgarde for any team is complete BS. People on thsi board can keep the blinders on and pretend everything is going to be fine with this team...but this first 2 weeks of FA is an indicator of the style of this team...passive and laid back

Would the Jets be better with him..YES Much better

Would the Patriots be better with him...Yes much better

But the Patriots FO is so much smarter than everyone else...they are outsmarting themselves into third place. Keep hoping something will fall out of the sky into Foxboro instead of going out and making it happen.

Re: Lombardi...The Jets want Brandon Marshall

I can't get over some of the homerism. How does adding Marshall not make them exceptionally better? Regardless of his off field stuff that everyone points to, he has produced at a high level every year. He had a Pro Bowl season with Kyle Orton. Sanchez has much more potential than Orton, and Sanchez will improve from last season. With that o-line and running game, it makes it easier on Sanchez to throw, especially with play action.

There is nothing wrong in the locker room with that defense. All of those guys love playing for Rex and love to talk because Rex evokes confidence, and they all follow suit. Revis and Cromartie are perfect CB's for that type of defense. Jenkins coming back is also a boost. Even if he's not the same player he once was, he's still big enough to just occupy blockers and stop the run like Wilfork.

Either way, we have a lot of work to do.

Here is the irony and where the "I am smarter than anyone on this forum" guys come out. They say Pats should never be interested in having a dominant player like Marshall if there are insurmountable flags. I mentioned Moss a few years ago prior to the Draft day trade and rumors and got persecuted by these same loud mouths who say Marshall will kill this team. Yet they are afraid he will really be good if the Jets get him.

I see him as an instant positive Team changer.

A lot of people are acting like this is set in stone; not only do the jets have to actually make an appealing offer but the Broncos have to accept it.

It will cost them a lot, whether by draft picks or not.

I couldn't agree more! Who in the world are we going to get at 22 that could help this team as much as Marshall? No one.

The best part of all the people saying "he will kill this team" if traded for, is why on earth would Mcdaniels keep him on their roster, and be unwilling to negotiate anything lower than a 1st in return if he is such a CANCER? Please! The way people talk about him on here you'd think they'd take what ever they could get.

As much as I hate to say it Sanchez is the real deal. Now you give him Marshall, with 1 year under his belt how in the world could any rationale person say he will not progress?

Based on what? What did Sanchez ever show to indicate that he's a good QB? I'm not saying that he's doomed to always suck, and can't turn it around, but he showed nothing last year.

And seriously, you're not being called a Jets fan because you disagree. You're being called a Jets fan because this happens at least once a month: some new account signs up with a name that clearly marks them as a Pats fan, then proceeds to post about how great the Jets are over and over again thinking that nobody will catch on. It's been going on for well over a year now, so you're not original or anything.

Moss' problems have never been as bad as Marshall's, and Moss was a better player than Marshall when we got him. If you want to give up a first and second round pick--we don't have have a third--for a headcase who is liable to get suspended or quit on the team at any given point in time, be my guest. That's typical Jets/Redskins behavior. They go after all the big names and still end up 9-7 at the end of the season. Yeah, that strategy is so much more successful than New England's.

I'd rather use those resources on a deep draft or in a trade for more picks/veteran players who aren't going to screw up our locker room.

I simply stated that if the Jets acquire Marshall they are a better team than the Pats, and will win the division. It's the 1st thread that I posted in involving the jets, so what ever. I really couldn't care less of what you think. I refuse to be a brain dead homer who feels the need to trash every move by other team when it clearly helps that team.

Yeah, maybe you're right because you have so many more posts you obviously know it all including what my motives are. Get over yourself already.

Because GMs like Ryan have to play the Hollywood Gambit by signing a big name to sell expensive PSLs. As to whether Marshall will actually help remains to be seen until he either hits the field or hits his woman and faces a one year suspension. Marshall is surely a talent, but to indicate that his excessive baggage doesn't carry a big risk is foolish.

I was actually referring to the Pats trading for him.

Well Dwayne Bowe was picked in the #23 spot, if we could land a comparable WR you would be paying a lot less with a rookie contract then you would be with bringing in Marshall, which would allow you to keep or get other players as well, so you can't just look at it like Marshall vs. a rookie. That being the upside, the down side is WR's are hit or miss in the draft, esp. trying to pick up this offense. Golden Tate already has this offense down, not sure they would go that route thou.

Rob you are mistaken...... That is his height with cleats on, while standing on a concrete surface.

I thought you knew that?

guess not....

:singing: :singing:

BTW, this is all great talk. But the odds of this happening are next to nothing. Yeah, like the Jets are seriously going to trade for Marshall for less than a first rounder like the report says they want to. Maybe the Broncos will take a fifth rounder and throw in Dumerville to sweeten the deal.

For the Jets to sign Marshall (which I don't think they can under the Final Four rule), who would they have to give up to get it. Do they not resign Mangold or Ferguson next season? I mean in the next year or so, they have to/want to give long term deals to Revis, Ferguson, Mangold, Harris, Edwards, etc. with most of them commanding top dollar at their position. Marshall would want a new contract paying him Fitzgerald money to complete the trade (which I don't think the Jets can do under the CBA) since the Broncos cannot trade Marshall while he isn't under contract. A trade like this could make the Jets window be this upcoming season.

This was a nice Sunday rainy afternoon talk but Marshall is probably be more likely a Patriot than a Jet at this point and I don't see him in a Pats uniform either. If he does somehow become a Jet, they can kiss goodbye some of their other key players within a year or two.

There is also a big risk to not adding veteran talent and expecting rookies in the draft to fill big areas of need. Maybe BB is still gunshy b/o AT but it worked with both Cory Dillon and Randy Moss.

Brady is in his prime...hopefully another year in the best part of his career will not be wasted.
I think taking the "risk" on a proven major talent like Marshall is far better than betting on a rookie WR or third tier free agent to come in and replace Welker's production.

The threat of Marshall on one side would open everything up for Moss.
