Ian's Daily Blog - Mike Reiss of ESPN just spoke to Logan Mankins, and apparently the news isn’t good. Reiss reported via Twitter that Mankins*says he wants to be traded, and has no further desire to be a Patriot. “I want to be traded,”*Mankins told Reiss.*”I don’t need to be here any more.”* “This is about principle with me and keeping your [...]

"I was asked to play '09 out, and that they would address contract after the uncapped year."

Uncapped year hasn't happened yet, am I missing something?

Too bad the UFL draft was a few weeks ago. I'm pretty sure one of those teams would have paid him like Jahri Evans.

Trade his highly overrated ass now.

I loved Logan but after reading all this bullsh!t, I have to agree that we might as well get a good draft pick and trade his greedy, whiny, misguided, penalty prone ass.

This the most bogus "They lied to me" claim since Law's. Quite possibly more bogus.

Maybe he's running a high-stakes bluff and still signs a long-term deal. We'll see.

Do you have any evidence that Mankins' claim is bogus?

mankins knows the pats don't have anyone to replace him with

I'd have to say this is a pretty shrewd move on his part

its not like the pats have the lure of championships to help them get good deals anymore. in that regard, they are just another team.

too bad for the pats. they left themselves wide open ala deion branch all over again. they would have been in a better bargaining position had they spent a 2nd rounder on an OG.

you can chalk part of this up to mis-management

His own agent refuted it. Didn't he say that the Patriots made him an offer? How did they not "address contract" if that is the case. It might not been the offer they liked but it certainly seems like they entered into negotiations in good faith. Nothing he said countered that.

20% less is 46M for 7 years....I'm sure they can work out a shorter contract if he wants....pretty good money for a Guard.

Is this the same "ah shucks.....8 year old PU truck" pick who came here some years ago.....how things have changed.....

Trade his ass if he wants to go....I don't want to ruin team chemistry over a Guard. The Squeelers did without Faneca.....we can do without Mankins.

Would love him to stay, but not at the cash he is wanting.

This is a Samuel situation. We need to negotiate a one-year contract and move on. I think that Mankins played one more year than Samuel.

Wouldn't he need to sign his tender before we could trade him?

Mankins was one of my favorite Patriots players. But when I see a professional athlete come out in the paper and cry about his contract and demand to be traded, it make me sick.

Say what you have to say in private to the Patriots but with a real unemployment rate of almost 17%, you sound like a spoiled brat crying about the millioons more you want after being offered millions to do you job.

I don't care who is on the right side or wrong side in his contract dispute, SHUT UP and don't wash your laundry in public. I thought Logan was more grounded than that.

Do not under any circumstances trade him.

You don't trade players under contract.

Branch has been the only one and that was a colossal screw-up.

Breer says he was offered about $7M a year if you want to be more sick.

Greedy f*cking bastards. That's amazing money for a guy who hasn't played out his contract. If he wants the market busting deal he has to wait, per the CBA.

The concept was fine for me, we've had good cheap years out of Meriweather who we got in the deal. The problem with Branch is it happened so late that it really put us behind the 8 ball at a position that requires unspoken communication; IMO we'd get by without Mankins better though I hope it doesn't come to that.

:ditto::agree::yeahthat: Whats the highest payed guard make maybe 8 mill. He should just (Please be quiet - edited) and take the offer, or play it out.

Or not take the offer and play it out through the process per the CBA. Either way works - this way doesn't. Of course his tender is about to be cut in half, I wouldn't want to be in the same room as him tomorrow.

If all this is exactly how it is coming across (It seldom is) then I'm disgusted with Mankins. He is not THE elite guard in NFL. He does not deserve to have the highest salary at his position. He is a good player who has been offered, from the looks of it, a very nice deal. For him to turn his nose up at it, and whine and request a trade is a serious error in thinking and acting on his part in my opinion. Doesn't he know by now that playing hardball with the Pats front office is like announcing your a gonna commandeer a submarine when Steven Segal is sitting next to you? It's not going to end well for you.
