Likely Receiving core: What do you think?

Which is kindof dumb since we were willing to give up a 3rd for him. Whatever time to move on.

I'll post what I did a couple months back:

If we can find the right rookie WR, there is no doubt he can be an impact starter for us. Let's just hope we find the right one.

Sorry, our WR scouts are not very good...

Most folks feel Patriots should be a WR in the draft. Well, Patriots has wasted plenty of picks on BAD picks. Would it not be better to get someone you know can run routes, than rolling the dice again? What if the draft pick goes bust? With Gronk probably out for awhile, and Ballard is still recovering, we are not in a very good position, in WRs...

Which is why the Pats have downgraded in the O. We have 2 star TEs. No real good WR that can stay healthy. Good RBs. But we need more.

What exactly do you propose?

The Pats were obviously were going to redo Sanders contract after the came here. My guess is they were going to wait several months to do it so people wouldn't cry foul and they wanted the cap flexibility by not tendering him too high.

I wanted the Pats to get him. He is a better fit for the Pats' offense than the Steelers. Too bad.

I think the Steelers were stupid to match the deal unless they work out a long term deal. They are going to lose him next year for nothing then.

If the Patriots enter the 2013 season with this as their complete receiver depth chart, it likely will be an area of major struggles. As the Patriots showed by signing Sanders to an offer sheet, they acknowledge the need for an upgrade.

If there is one position that Bill Belichick has struggled to draft and develop, it's receivers. Look at the history of Belichick's draft picks at the position, and it's shaky at best -- Deion Branch (second round, 2002), David Givens (second, 2002), Bethel Johnson (second, 2003), P.K. Sam (fifth, 2004), Chad Jackson (second, 2006), Brandon Tate (third, 2009), Edelman (seventh, 2009), Taylor Price (third, 2010), Jeremy Ebert (seventh, 2012).

Branch and Givens...that's it. Why anyone would have confidence in them drafting a WR is beyond me but they have no choice now. I think this could have a big impact on this season...a huge waste of a year IMO if they pick another JAG in the draft

At the very least them matching the 1yrct assures he will be a UFA in 2014 so we can make another run at him unless they extend him during the exclusive period which seems unlikely with their cap situation.

Sanders was in the same situation in either case, a $2.5M contract in hand, and a beginning of negotiations of a long-term deal. Of course, if he simply wants this to be a show-me year, he can simply perform and wait. The options were the same whether PITT matched or not. I think it unreasonable to expect that there was some unsigned long-term contract that would be executed before the season started. If so, Sanders can sign a similar deal with PITT. The cap for PITT will be no higher than the current $2.5M.

This is a strange way to pay back Brady for signing a hugely discounted contract.

It's been a strange FA year may have caused some hesitancy. Maybe the June 1st market will be strong maybe a trade at the draft. Still lots to be decided.

Pitt will give him a long term deal and he will be significantly more $$ if he hits the market next year..he is going to be pitts #2 WR..he is going to have a very good year.

the low # shows that they were undecided with him or didn't think he was worth $4 mill..i guess.

We traded a 2nd and a 7th for welker and gave him short money.

I am sure the Pats and Sanders had a handshake long term deal. I am just saying they may have waited a few months to make it official so they wouldn't get blasted for playing dirty pool.

On the other hand, if the Steelers can get a long term deal done, they don't have to wait. Granted, they may not be willing to pay what the Pats may have been willing to pay.

The problem hasn't been the FA year. The problem's been the front office.

Well if they draft a WR McDaniels will have a lot of say in who it is. He did pretty decently in drafting Thomas and Decker.

The only WR they ever drafted with McDaniels was Jackson and that was his first official season as OC which I don't think he really had a say then.

Now I think he has a lot more say especially since he drafted one of the leagues better WR combos 3 years ago

Sucks they missed out on him. I'm officially worried bout the pass catchers. Only 1 legit wr that's injury prone. Throw Gronk and his on-going injury issue and you have a recipe for a disastrous situation. I'm telling yin right now unless the Pats pull a rabbit out their ass and draft a capable WR (which is something they suck at) the offense will take a significant hit this season.

Does the FO really think that Brady can overcome the issues at WR? Because it seems like it and i don't think that is the case.

^^^ if gronk and or amendola miss any time this season..the O will struggle to find the endzone unless they hit on a WR in the draft

What exactly do you propose?

I don't have any suggestion.

Will the Patriots re-sign Lloyd to a 1yr contract ??

IF the draft is the only choice, do Patriots select a WR in 1st round? Will they move UP in the 1st round to get a top 3 WR?

Or, will Patriots trade out of 1st round?

How many times are you going to post the same statement?

So they should have signed?

The front office could and should have made it more difficult for Pit to match, they left themselves open for failure with a low offer.
