just oukt of curiousity, how do youk know they aren't going tok pick up another player before the playoffs?

Reiss' blog indicated that the Pats cap situation is extremely tight right now and they *may* not be able to pick someone up. Even if they do, my point is, why not wait until that time to put Light on IR ? As far as I know there is no deadline for placing players on IR. All this move does is eliminate one of the teams options. No upside.

If the team picks up a player today, then I can see a rationale. But not if there is just an empty roster spot.

1. YOU just did, duke (them too)!

2. Shmessy comes off sounding like a curmudgeon ... but a correct curmudgeon.

3. What you said, Scout.
well forgive me for being a little slow on the uptake, f2p --- the '60s, you know.
now where was i...
oh yeah. IMHO, this is dante scarnecchia's finest performance. there ought to be some kind of award for what's been accomplished. i mean, there isn't even that one grizzled veteran player for the others to lean on.

I think they should go with:

Kaczur LT
Mankins LG
Hochstein C
Neal RG
Ashworth RT

Not a big Gorin fan, though he's done OK. I'd be OK with that lineup for the postseason.

Reasonable, PF 37. Very reasonable.

Not sure i know what you mean, duke ... but i probably started any confusion by not being clear.

I was complimenting you ... for bringing the subject to the attention of the local media. We know from other episodes that they fish these waters regularly ... and therefore read your post.

the Injured Reserve goes to 10 tieing the Jets for most in the League.

As a matter of interest, where did you find that stat (it doesn't seem to be on NFL.com)?

is the pope german?

This is a great point! Ted Washington came back from a broken leg in 2003 and that was one BIG bone that had to heal!

Does BB have say over the medical staff? He is always telling us he is not a doctor.....
IMHO BB makes sure he has say over everything except the seating arrangements, the parking, and the brand of coffee they serve.
heck yes he has say.
who hires and fires the docs? if BB wants a doc or a trainer to vanish, what do you think happens?
mike tice may not have any say, but it's diferent for BB.
he may not be well served by the medical staff on board now, but i feel certain he'll visit the issue this offseason.

Good points, but can you explain why the Patriots have led the NFL in games lost to injury 3 years in a row?

Where there is smoke there is fire. 1 year is too bad. 2 years in a row is strange. 3 years in a row is NO coincidence.
In addition to PF37's remarks, I'll remind people that the patient has some say in how much he does, or over does, to get back in time to help. I note the media stories about Ty Poole not putting forth the effort when we know he came back too soon the year before and was lost for good - not to mention the fan impatience posted here and elsewhere. One of the reasons BB refuses to address media questions on team injuries is to try and take outside pressure off the players who are rehabbing.

It also must be considered that the mindset of this team contributes to rehab problems - we have some severely bulletproof boys out there - Ty Law talked about his confidence that he could play through anything.

Finally, regarding player participation in rehab effort, my brother is an emergency room Physician's Assistant who works solo most of the time. He has to use the same kind of analytical tools crime and intelligence analysts use to figure out foreign and domestic threats in order to work through what the patient relates to him. I know I've sometimes been unable to find the right words to tell the Doctor where it hurts, I'm sure our bullet proof boys aren't above minimizing things that may help or are unable to distinguish which is the critical injury amongst the bangs and bruises.

In Bill We Hope - that he and the staff can sort his out in the off-season.

They are a hard hitting team who has played more games than anyone over the last 5 years.

You have the situation exactly backwards. bb waited until he believed that there was no chance that Light would be able to play. Second guess bb and the doctors if you wish, but they have made the assessment that there is no chance of Light making it back.

The roster spot would be wasted if we knowingly had a player on the squad who had no chance of playing no matter what; that player is Light. The cap situation can be terrible. It doesn't matter. If we needed to pick up a punter or a kicker or someone else from the PS, we would work it out.

I'd really like to see a table.

I looked at injuries last year at this stage and we were tied for most players out with the Bengals. There is, by and large, a really strong correlation between a lot of injuries one year and success the next (Carolina and Chicago were other notable victims, though that was more because they had a series of injuries at key positions, like the Jets this year.)

But...

The Injury List decreases to a single player.

Tom Brady - Probable - Shoulder

Now to STAY healthy for the playoffs...

Exactly what I came here to write! Now our injury list is JUST BRADY, and we all know how injured he is! (wink)

honestly i expected that he was going to be put in IR

not a surprise

I am not second guessing the doctors at all - I am just speaking about the logic. I'm sure Light's injury "is what it is" (Bill-speak). I am simply wondering what the advantage is of IR'ing Light *now* as opposed to later. There is no cost of keeping Light as the 53rd man and one of the 8 inactives. Yesterday, Light's return was a "long shot", but now it is impossible.

Why not keep his "longshot" return a possibility until they actually fill the roster spot ?

We don't know what his current injury is, but the SB isn't until early February. Again, what if Kaczur, Gorin and/or Ashworth go down with season-ending injuries in the playoffs ? Even if there is a 1% chance Light could step in and help, wouldn't you want to at least keep that option open ?

Ilduce you are 100% dead on...Dante is a terrific coach, we are lucky to have this guy around. People think he is the great stone face and emotionless - take a good look at the replay of the Ashworth TD - look at and listen to Dante on the sidelines, he was smiling, fist pumping and ket out a Charlie Weiss style high pitched yell!!

If one was so inclined (I am not), one could go to Ourlads.Com and look at their depth charts and tabulate how many players each team has on IR.
