Re: Honestly, can we now all agree that Maroney is NOT the answer as an every down ba

For everyone sake why don't you take the Maroney jersey off, put down the kool-aid, and stop making your pathetic and tiresome excuses. Ok junior?

You hate him so much, yet you can't keep from talking about him. Reading your arguments is like watching a train wreck because you use few facts and when you do produce information it is so out of context as to be meaningless. Your only justification is to accuse other people here of "homerism" and "drinking the kool-aid" even though no one has stated they think Maroney is a great player and bound for the hall of fame, just that he deserves a chance and some time. Any intelligent person who has followed the game long enough knows that the jury is out on Maroney. He just hasn't had enough time for anyone to form a definitive conclusion on how good a player he is. Yet you espouse some twisted hate filled opinion of him that is full of so much venom and is so over the top you sound like a bad joke. You are so good at it you could probably convince yourself that Tom Brady is the worst quarterback ever and that the Patriots in general are a complete fluke. Bottom line is no one takes you seriously.

Re: Honestly, can we now all agree that Maroney is NOT the answer as an every down ba

I don't even want Maroney to get 8 carries. In fact, I don't want to see him run at all. I am NOT asking for more carries from Maroney at all. He doesn't deserve them and he will not do anything with them. He sucks. Hey, my ex-girl looked the part, dressed the part, but flat out sucked in bed. That's why I upgraded her to something better. The same applies with LoMo. He looks the part, was drafted the part, but flat out sucks when it' showtime.

Maybe you don't know how to develop talent.

Re: Honestly, can we now all agree that Maroney is NOT the answer as an every down ba

This is a dumb arguement. Maroney only got 8 carries. Steelers have a great run D. The Patriots are not going to play to their strengths.

Funny thing is, last year when we played the #1 run D boasted by the Vikings, we ran almost twice as much... 15 times, to be exact. For a respectable 85 yards.

Maroney sucks vs the teams with a bad run d to.

Has anyone talked about how Belichick gave the gameball to Maroney after the Ravens win? That should quiet some of the doubters.

I sure as hell know how to cut my losses, admit a mistake, and get an upgrade. And what an upgrade it is my friend!

Quiet what? JR Redmond was great in the 2001 super bowl win against the Rams. Where was he 2 years later? Out of town. The kid had a couple nice CATCHES. His running still sucked.

Hey, don't you have some strategy and lineups to plan for next weekend's games???

Maybe he gave him the ball because he actually made a good play. A play he should make a lot more considering the hype he came with.

I would love to see what these same homers would say if I told them Maroney would have the numbers he does and the carries he is getting 31 games into his career after draft day.

I didn't know that. He had 123 total yards and good overall game.

Exactly. The only good thing LoMo brings to the table is that it gives us an oppurtunity to go squirt a leak when we know he is going to get a run so we don't miss the good stuff. So, in actuality, I must give him props for that.

Are you really comparing JR Redmond to Laurence Maroney?

No, but my point is even Jr Redmond had a good "game". A good "game" that gets a player a "game ball" doesn't all of a sudden make that player a keeper or a stud.

Yeah, no one is doubting that he hasn't exactly lived up to his lofty expectations, but why does that mean he should be benched? Maroney has played pretty well when healthy. It's not his fault that the Pats have the BEST PASSING OFFENSE in the history of the NFL.

And Phil Simms had, like, 5 awful years to start his career, but Parcells stuck with him. Look at Larry Johnson who was criticized by Vermeil in Kansas City and didn't play early in his career. Johnson was making no contributions to his team, but the Chiefs played him after Holmes injury. And then he became one of the top running backs in football.

Save your breath. It's fantasy football. Throw out the 1st day from the last two drafts and draft all the same positions again. Repeat every year.:bricks:

Same thing. What you don't understand is that in football, as in many other things, there are variables and circumstances that require a more in-depth analysis than just measurable statistics. To take any player's stats and make a pronouncement on his worth leaves you prone to mis-evaluation, which is why this thread and others of its kind end up being so distorted.

A simple example:

An analysis of Tom Brady's statistics alone without taking into account overall team success before 2007 would have many come to the conclusion that he was an above average QB.

The same analysis of Tom Brady's statistics without taking into account team success in 2007 would come to the conclusion that he's an elite QB with some of the best QB statistics in the game for one season.

Combining the two analyses including team success would lead to the conclusion that Brady is one of the top QBs in NFL history.

Now apply that approach to Maroney, who hasn't completed two seasons. The evaluation is incomplete. To cite statistics alone is a common error made by those who don't understand the game well enough to take into account the full set of variables that contribute to a player's career. Easy to do when all you know is fantasy football, since the only thing that counts with fantasy players is individual statistics, and what's ignored is how the player contributes to team success.

News Bulletin: Team success is a combination of many contributions by players and coaches, many of which don't show up in the post-game statistics. To base a player's value on stats alone is not a complete evaluation of the player.

Re: Honestly, can we now all agree that Maroney is NOT the answer as an every down ba

I'm tired of even talking about Maroney's useless arse. The kid sucks. Flat out. I mean, I just hate when the kid is even in the game. Anyone that makes excuses for this kid and thinks he was worth a 1st rd pick is a homer. There I said it. Call me whatever you want, but for cris sakes, at least I don't try to make chicken salad out of chicken you know what. I hope to god we get ourselves a new feature running back this offseason. Maroney is garbage.

I'm tired of even talking about NSA's useless arse. The guy sucks. Flat out. I mean, I just hate when he even posts. Anyone with as little understanding of the game should just keep his mouth shut. For cris sakes, I wish he's stop pretending like he was a Pats fan. He talks about Maroney being bad, yet he calls FACTS, excuses.

NSA is garbage.

There, I said it.

Re: Honestly, can we now all agree that Maroney is NOT the answer as an every down ba

I'll agree to the extent that BB is just taking advantage of his personnel this year. If he had a great RB, he would be taking advantage of that too. Note how the Rams and Colts had prolific passing offenses, and had RBs (Faulk and James) that thrived running against defenses geared to stop the pass.

The question is why hasn't Maroney thrived in this ideal circumstance. The defenses are all geared to stop Brady, Moss, Welker, etc. Yet when he is given the ball he has been fairly ineffective. Maybe because those ideal circumstances haven't existed except in your own fake reality.

Let's review Maroney's YPC over the last 5 games, a stat that many Maroney supporters had cited as his main defense. (Actually many of supporters site his OVERALL YPC as a defense, but NOT the main defense. Typical of a hater like yourself to misrepresent those with the opposing view)

15 for 59 3.9 ypc
6 for 19 3.2 ypc (Game was over by half-time)
10 for 31 3.1 ypc (Eagles had a top 10 run defense)
13 for 34 3.4 ypc (Ravens were the best heading into that week.)
8 for 18 2.3 ypc (Steelers were the best heading into this week.).

Which gives us a grand total of:
53 carries for 161 yards and a 3.04 ypc over the last 5 games.

So what. Maroney's gone up against some of the best run defenses in the league and the Pats game plan chose to NOT run against them. You're an imbecile if you think that is Maroney's fault.

Now believe it or not, when the Patriots get into the playoffs they are going to encounter tough run defenses yet again.

Actually, that isn't necessarily true. 3 of the AFC teams are not in the top 10. Only the Steelers and Jacksonville have top 10 run defenses. SD is ranked 19th, Indy is ranked 17 and Cleveland (most likely to get the last WC spot, imho) is ranked 28th. Right now, Jacksonville is the 5th seed and will play the Chargers with the Steelers at 3 playing the Browns. Can you honestly say that the Jaguars will beat San Diego and the Steelers beat the Browns?

Teams that make it into the playoffs are above average to very good. What indicators could possibly make one think that Maroney's performance will dramatically improve come playoff time when his numbers have been in rapid decline over the past 5 games?? When Maroney has failed to step up his game against quality defenses, what makes us think he can mysteriously transform himself for the playoffs?

You keep blaming Maroney, but you don't put ANYTHING on the O-line that was pushed back 2 yards each time Maroney got the ball in the 4th. You totally discount it and it shows the FLAW in your thinking. How can you blame MARONEY when the O-line wasn't doing its job.

OH, please see where, as it stands right now, 7 teams (including the Pats) stand to make the play-offs that do NOT have top 10 run defenses.

There are 2 possible "redemption" games coming up for Maroney.
Against the Jets who sport the #30 ranked run defense in the NFL and the Dolphins who sport the #32 ranked run defense in the NFL.

Maroney doesn't need to REDEEM himself except in the eyes of the uneducated.

If Maroney cannot romp over these pathetic teams, we'll know that there is something SERIOUSLY wrong. Let's end the excuses. The next 2 games are against 2 of the worst defensive teams in the league, Jets and Dolphins. Show us what you've got Maroney!

And if the Pats decide NOT to run the ball against the Jets because they want to RUN THE SCORE UP, I guess that will be Maroney's fault as well?

How about you just STFU already. Everyone knows where Danny88, NSA and yourself (the 3 stooges if there ever was any) stand in regards to Maroney. You're constant posting without bothering to look at context shows how unrealistic and worthless the opinion you share on Maroney really is.
